Chapter 105: The Morning After

Cough. Cough.
My eyes the next morning only opened after I coughed two times.
Last night, we didn’t leave the roof until the rain had subsided, which was around a whole hour. For that hour, we kept getting drenched in the water droplets.
From time to time, I had tried to pull Viora back inside the villa, fearing that she or I could catch a cold.
But every single time, she would just tighten her grip on my hand, laugh that soft giggle of hers, and drag me right back into the middle of the downpour.
"And now what I was afraid of has come true," I muttered to myself, but the words barely managed to escape my lips.
I ran my hand over my throat because it was feeling so sore. My head was also throbbing with dull pain, and my limbs felt really heavy.
Even with all the enhanced attributes, it seemed running around a rooftop in a freezing rainy season storm for an hour was too much for a human body to handle.
Cough!

I let out another sharp cough and shook my head as I tried to clear the grogginess from my mind.
Slowly, my thoughts went to Viora. If I am feeling like this, then what about her?
Anxiety flared in my chest. I scrambled out of my bed and walked out.
Reaching the door of her room, I hesitated for a second. I didn’t want to wake her up if she was resting peacefully, so I didn’t knock.
I just gently grabbed the handle and pushed the door open a fraction to peek inside.
Viora was still sleeping.
She was curled up into a small ball under her blanket, with only the top of her head and a few strands of her hair sticking out. She looked perfectly still, with her breathing slow and steady.
Seeing that she was completely fine and didn’t seem to be shivering, I let out a sigh of relief. Just like that, I closed the door as gently as I had opened it, ensuring the click of the lock didn’t make a single sound to disturb her rest.
"At least she didn’t catch it," I thought to myself.
Turning around, I made my way down the stairs and headed straight toward the kitchen. My throat was practically begging for something hot, and I needed to prepare something before Viora woke up.
I walked over to the kitchen counter and began pulling out the tea supplies. But instead of the regular tea bags we usually used, my eyes drifted toward a small, unlabeled glass jar sitting at the back of the shelf. Inside it were dried, dark purple leaves that gave off a faint minty aroma.
These were magical herbs. They were best for wounds, broken bones, and some internal injuries. But I don’t know if they will work for something like a cold.
I filled the kettle with clean water and turned it on to heat it up. While waiting for the water to boil, I dropped three of the purple leaves into the pot.

The moment the water began to bubble, the leaves dissolved entirely, turning the liquid into a faint violet color.
I poured the hot herbal tea into two large ceramic mugs, adding a generous amount of sugar to one of them so Viora wouldn’t make a face about the slight bitterness of the magical herbs.
Just as I wrapped my hands around the handles of the mugs to carry them upstairs, a weak muffled sound echoed from the top of the stairwell.
Cough. Cough.
My hands froze on the tray.
I immediately turned my head toward the sound. Down the stairs came Viora, stepping slowly with her bare feet.
Cough!
She let out another soft cough and covered her mouth with her fist. Her face looked slightly flushed, and the tips of her nose and ears were a distinct pink color.
"Viora," I said, setting the tray back down and walking quickly to the base of the stairs to grab her hand. "I thought you were sleeping. Why did you come down?"
The moment my fingers wrapped around her wrist, I could feel that her skin was incredibly warm.
"I heard your footsteps..." she whispered. She leaned her head forward until her forehead rested directly against my chest. "And my throat felt like it was on fire. Woo Jin... I think the rain caught me."
I let out a long sigh and placed the back of my hand against her forehead. She definitely had a fever.
"I told you last night we should come inside," I tried to sound scolding, though I couldn’t bring myself to sound genuinely angry when she was looking this pathetic. Also, it was my fault for leading her to the roof. "But you just had to keep spinning in the rain."
"It was worth it," she mumbled against my shirt, though she followed up her words with another tiny cough.

I guided her over to the kitchen chairs and sat her down, then pushed the sugared violet tea right into her hands.
"Drink this. It is made from magical herbs. It will taste a bit weird, but it will lower your temperature and fix your throat. Perhaps."
Viora took a small sip. She winced slightly at the herbal taste, but because of the extra sugar, she didn’t complain.
As I sat across from her, drinking my own bitter mug of tea, the silence of the villa returned. The warmth of the liquid instantly began to soothe the soreness in my throat, and I could see the flushed color on Viora’s cheeks gradually beginning to stabilize as the magical properties of the leaves took effect.
Viora let out a weak giggle as she leaned back into her chair.
"I like it when it is sweet," she murmured. "And I liked last night even more. It was the best night of my life in many years."
Hearing her words, the image of her mumbled confession from the rainy rooftop flashed through my mind again.
’You are mine.’
At first we were just spinning, then slowly she began to change her posture and began dancing alongside me.
Then while resting her head on my shoulder and moving her feet in the rain she mumbled: You are mine.
Since her mouth was close to my ear I was able to hear her this time. But that wasn’t all she said. She followed up with another sentence after that.
"So, don’t ever try to leave me."
