Chapter 103: Prophecy of the Devouring Void

While the tea is being made, I should use this time to check the loot.

I moved to the side and stood in front of a clear space where I could place the loot items.

First, I placed the black stone onto the marble. This was the thing I had ripped directly out of Prince Trion’s chest.

Next, I pulled out the golden key.

The moment the key touched the surface, it let out a sharp metallic sound. The intricate engravings on its surface were still shifting slightly and were glowing with a faint golden hue.

Lastly, I pulled out the item that wasn’t supposed to exist. The old piece of paper given by the Mermaid Queen.

’System,’ I thought. ’Evaluate the items.’

Ding!

Ding!

Ding!

[Item: Kingdom Key Fragment (1/5)]

[Item: Corrupted Deep-Sea Core (Rare)]

[Item: Prophecy of the Devouring Void (Unique)]

Instantly, three screens manifested right in front of my eyes.

[Item: Corrupted Deep-Sea Core (Rare)]

[Type: Trait Extraction Material

Description: A condensed mass of mana containing the mutated essence of the Ancient Dragons.

Effect: Can be consumed to permanently unlock Dragon Physique, Dark Mana, regeneration according to physical capabilities, and water manipulation.

Note: This item is highly compatible with the ’Wife’. But her current Evolution Phase is too low to adapt to it. It will lose most of its effects if consumed now.]

I nodded to myself.

This was exactly what I wanted. Even if I can’t use it now, I am sure this will come in handy in the near future.

Then, gradually, my eyes shifted to the second screen.

[Item: Kingdom Key Fragment (1/5)]

[Type: Quest Item / Key Component

Description: A fragment of the ancient key that once unlocked the vault of the Sunken Realm.

Current Status: 1 out of 5 collected.

Hidden Storyline Progress: 5%

Warning: Collecting all five fragments and combining them will trigger a world-altering scenario.]

After reading this screen, I began to tap my finger against the marble.

’A world-altering scenario...’

Finally, after a bit of time, I looked at the third and largest screen, which was displaying the details of the strange old paper.

[Item: Prophecy of the Devouring Void (Unique)]

[Type: (####)(Unknown)

Description: A record written by the final seer of the Sunken Realm before its isolation. It reacts exclusively to individuals bearing anomalous souls.

Translated Text: ’When the stars align in reverse, the two anomalies shall walk hand in hand. One shall become the sword that tears the world apart, and the other shall become the shadow that devours the remains. To survive the absolute end, the flesh must be shared, and the soul must be consumed. A tragedy written in blood, bound by an unbreakable thread.’]

I didn’t know that the system could do that, but after reading the translated text, a cold sensation washed over my spine.

The lines perfectly matched what the Queen had told us before we left the palace.

<A future where one of you must constantly consume the other just to remain whole...>

’Is the system talking about me and Viora?’

I don’t know for sure. It can be anyone. I mean literally anyone, like a brother and sister, two demons, or someone else.

I narrowed my eyes as I stared at the glowing blue words on the paper.

According to what I had read, Viora’s enemy Jane was supposed to be a lone monster. A world-ending calamity that slaughtered everything in her path because her rage completely destroyed her sanity.

But in reality, she wasn’t alone. Her brother Bane was also at her side. No matter what she did, he just helped her with the task. There was even a mention that he had killed children because they were in the way of helping Jane.

It could be them. Right?

I didn’t care about ancient prophecies or hidden world quests. I had a single goal: to survive comfortably and keep the people I cared about safe. If the storyline wanted us to become a tragedy, I would just have to rip the script to pieces.

I closed the notifications with a swift wave of my hand.

...

Now the tea was made. And hopefully, Viora was also finished changing her attire. I didn’t know how long she was going to take since it had been a while after she went to her room, so I decided to take the tea to her room.

The hot teacups rattled slightly against each other as I walked up the stairs.

Reaching the door of her room, I didn’t bother knocking and just pushed it open with my shoulder because it was already slightly ajar.

Viora was sitting on the edge of her bed, wearing an oversized white shirt that made her small figure look even smaller. Her hair was still damp and was sticking to her forehead.

The moment she heard my footsteps, her head snapped in my direction, and a bright smile instantly lit up her face.

"You actually brought it," she said.

Hmmm... Did she not come down because she wanted to see if I would bring the tea here or not?

"Of course I did." I walked over and placed the tray on the side table beside the bed. Then, I handed her the cup and made sure her fingers were wrapped around it before letting go. "Careful, it is hot."

She took a small sip, and I could feel her shoulders stiffen up.

"Hot. Hot. Hot."

"Didn’t I tell you it was hot?!" I grabbed the cup from her hand and put it away. Even when I had warned her, she still somehow managed to get her tongue burned.

"Soo... Hoooovvv..."

Her tongue was out of her mouth as she tried to fan it with her hand, and in the process she made small muffled sounds while trying to cool it down.

"Let me see," I sighed and leaned a bit closer to her face.

She looked up at me with teary, wide eyes while her pink tongue was still sticking out just a bit.

The tips of her ears were turning a bright crimson, though I couldn’t tell if it was from the heat of the tea or just plain embarrassment.

"You really don’t listen, do you?" I scolded her.

"You didn’t say it was that hot," she pouted. "I just wanted to taste it quickly because you made it."

"Right, and now you won’t be tasting anything for the next few hours," I said. I was finding it really hard to hide the faint amusement I was getting from watching her like this. I picked up the tea and began gently blowing on the surface. "Just sit tight. I’ll cool it down for you."

"Are you going to feed it to me too, then?" she asked as she slowly placed her head on my shoulder.

"I am not."

When I denied helping her drink the tea, she raised her hand and began to walk her two fingers across my arm up and down.

"Please,"
