Chapter 66: The Professor Mistook My Suffering for Determination.

"H-Huff... p-puff...!"

"F-Fuhk!"

"I... I c-can’t... t-take... it... any... m-more...!"

"S-Someone kill... m-me already...!"

"W-Why are... y-you... s-such a bitch...?!"

"P-Pwease! I am s-sowwy... M-Ma’am...!"

"P-Pwease... h-have... m-mercy...!"

Countless complaints and desperate pleas echoed across the enormous training ground as every student of the World-Class sprinted as though their lives depended on it.

Charging behind us was a gigantic mammoth, its tusks long enough to rival giants.

Although everyone knew the beast was nothing more than an illusion created by our professor, the instinct to survive was one hell of a thing.

Among the students at the very back was me, my training suit completely drenched in my own sweat.

At this point, I didn’t even know how I was still breathing while the mammoth’s enormous tusks were only a few inches behind my back.

Naturally, that illusionary elephant was Ruan or more accurately, Ruan in her sadistic physical instructor mode.

I couldn’t run properly but I still had to.

Even if the mammoth itself was fake, Ruan had mastered Illusion Magic to such an extent that the pain it inflicted felt completely real... because it actually was.

If the illusion happened to catch someone, that bitch actually kicked them herself to make them feel real pain but honestly, the kick wasn’t even the worst part.

I had experienced far worse.

The real reason I kept running like my life depended on it was because I knew exactly what would happen if she decided I was too weak.

She would force me into her extra physical training sessions just like my last life and even now, that was one of the most traumatic memories of my previous life.

Every muscle in my body burned and my trembling legs felt as though they were breaking apart with every step, only to be repaired again by my own mana.

It was undeniably effective and I appreciated the results but the methods that bitch used to achieve them was something I hated since my previous life.

"Come on! Why are you all being so pathetic?! It’s only the second day of the academy! Show me some energy and give me five more laps!"

Her voice echoed from within the illusion.

"And don’t worry. Even if you somehow can’t make it, I am not one of those professors who penalize their students."

She chuckled slightly.

"So you won’t be in any trouble, you will simply have to attend an extra class."

FUCK!

Those words alone filled me with renewed strength as I forced my legs to move even faster as another poor soul beside me was struck.

As I ran, my gaze drifted toward the front, where a handful of geniuses were running as though fifty laps around a five-hundred-meter track were nothing more than a light warm-up.

Naturally, Aurelion and Hope being the genius warriors were leading the group, accompanied by several other monsters.

Lily and Seles remained somewhere in the middle. Neither of them specialized in physical combat, so they were breathing a little harder, though they were nowhere near as miserably as I was.

Meanwhile, several poor souls already lay scattered across the track like corpses after getting struck down by Ruan.

I wondered if Asher and Liana, who weren’t part of the World-Class, had to endure this same merciless training.

But naturally, this damned woman didn’t even give my Chaos Mind a chance to wander.

"Run! Run like your life depends on it!"

Her delighted voice echoed across the training ground once more.

"You, Ruinbringer boy! You are about to get caught! Your daddy isn’t going to save you here! Same goes for you, Forgers and Raomen!"

She specifically singled out the three of us at the very back of the pack. I gritted my teeth but refused to let my anger get the better of me and simply kept running.

I truly hoped the condition for engraving her True Name involved killing her because I would absolutely love to fulfill it.

Only after what felt like an eternity did she finally stop.

The illusionary mammoth vanished as she transformed back into her fairy form and I collapsed right where I stood. My legs twitched uncontrollably as the world spun around me.

I swear I hadn’t felt anything like this even when I died.

Honestly, this was the first time since my regression that I had pushed my body this far.

Even against the Depraved Elves in the Forbidden Ruins, my injuries had mostly come from overusing my Vector Affinity and fighting for days on end but I had never been this utterly exhausted and it was yet another reminder of just how weak I still was in this life.

"Your performance was even worse than I imagined."

Ruan looked over the students with disappointment.

"You have become so accustomed to luxury that many of you don’t even possess the basic level of fitness an Awakened should have."

"We who walk the Path of Supremacy call ourselves Ascendants because we possess the potential to one day reach Transcendence and even those without extraordinary talents eventually become Awakened through perseverance alone and possess stronger physiques than many of you who have spent your entire lives drowning in luxury."

Her voice softened ever so slightly.

"Still... I was impressed by quite a few of you. Some of you actually pushed yourselves beyond your natural limits despite the pain and that’s something I found commendable."

I felt her gaze linger on me for a brief moment.

"But that won’t be enough anymore because I won’t tolerate weakness. So stop hiding behind excuses like being a mage or being born with a frail body because there is no such thing as a weak body, only laziness."

"A proper training regimen can overcome almost any curse and from now on... I will be the one making sure of that. Also from tomorrow the mages and warriors would be separated in their training programs. So, do prepare accordingly."

Her smile widened.

"Except for that, those who were touched by my illusions will attend an extra class every evening and those who don’t attend it, I will drag them there personally."

"Class dismissed!"

The moment those words left her mouth, the students who had been struck by her illusions began cursing, while those who had somehow escaped them cursed just as loudly.

Either way, everyone quickly started dispersing with support of their newly formed friends.

I wanted to leave as well but somehow, I couldn’t even feel my legs. Hell, it felt like I never had them to begin with and I didn’t have any friends kind enough to help me either.

Just as I was about to channel mana and reinforce the Vectors through my body to force myself back onto my feet, a tiny pixie floated down and stopped right in front of my face.

Ruan.

Her golden eyes blinked innocently as her green hair curled around her tiny head like vines.

"I was impressed by your sincerity." Her voice carried an amused tone. "When I first heard the rumors about you, I must admit that even I, despite being a teacher, formed a somewhat negative impression of you."

"But today, you have shown me just how deceiving rumors can be."

She smiled warmly.

"You are neither lazy nor rude. Instead, you are someone who perseveres despite failure and someone kind. Even when nobody wanted to speak with that commoner girl, I saw you sitting beside her, making sure she didn’t feel alone."

"To me... that’s even more commendable than the effort you showed during today’s training." She winked at me. "So naturally, I am quite impressed by you, Zenith von Ruinbringer."

The moment those words left her mouth, a terrible premonition washed over me.

"Noh... yuh ah... mishun... dehshtannin... Ma’am."

I tried to explain and to tell her she had completely misunderstood everything but unfortunately, even my tongue had gone numb, turning every word into incomprehensible gibberish.

"Yeah! Yeah, I get it."

She nodded enthusiastically.

"You are a diligent person. So yes, you can attend the extra class too. No need to thank me. I will make sure that one day you will be known for having the strongest body instead of the weakest one."

As soon as she uttered those words, I immediately cursed my fate and understood once again... just how difficult it was to change fate.
