Chapter 63: [Bonus 8] Two Girls, Two Very Different Problems.

Seles walked across the academy campus, making her way toward the classroom. Her steps were ever so slightly quicker than usual.

That fool...

A faint smirk tugged at her lips as she recalled what had happened just moments ago.

Zenith von Ruinbringer had asked her to trust him and if that wasn’t enough, he turned out to be an even bigger fool than she had expected.

After what he had shown yesterday, she had held him in high regard, believing he was someone like her, someone who hid his true self behind a carefully crafted mask.

But today, he had completely shattered that image. Instead of hiding behind another mask, he had simply...trusted her and had practically handed himself over to her.

She definitely didn’t mind that.

Still, she hadn’t completely abandoned the possibility that he was a manipulator. She knew better than to trust something simply because it appeared genuine but she wasn’t about to reject goodwill that had been freely offered.

Even if he was trying to make use of her, it didn’t matter. If anything, it made things easier because if he believed he could manipulate her, then she would simply make him fall in love first.

Although she had little experience with romance herself, she had read more than enough books and stories to understand how it worked.

Seles was confident to make him fall for her as long as they spent enough time together.

There were countless people in the academy who were more powerful or even more influential than Zenith but, if possible, she still wanted him. Not only because of his background but because he was from the Holy Empire.

If she chose someone from a distant continent, there would be no chance of influencing him to one day claim the Emperor’s, her father’s, throne.

And there was one final reason, a rather important one.

Zenith was handsome.

Among everyone she had met so far, he was the only one whose appearance genuinely pleased her among those of her age.

Her steps quickened ever so slightly at the thought.

Yet his words refused to leave her mind.

’Every time there was a gathering or a banquet, everyone focused on Prince Aurelion... but my eyes were always drawn to you.’

That was what he had said.

It wasn’t as if she had never received compliments before.

Noble girls praised her beauty, boys praised her grace and servants praised her kindness but every one of those compliments had come because she was a princess and this was the first time someone had said they had looked at her while everyone else looked at Aurelion.

She didn’t know whether he had been sincere, merely polite or simply trying to manipulate her but for some reason, just knowing that someone had noticed her instead of her brother was enough to make the smile on her lips grow just a little brighter.

Thinking about it, her mind naturally drifted back to the strange reaction she had yesterday, a reaction she still couldn’t understand.

"Why is it so hot today?"

She gracefully fanned her face and had barely taken a few more steps before she remembered something.

"Oh, shit. I was supposed to wait for Aurelion and Hope."

Then again...

She simply shrugged.

"Not my problem. They can deal with their fans."

Aurelion being Aurelion, was probably busy networking with every noble practically begging for his attention. Meanwhile, Hope, their childhood friend and the only daughter of the Crownforge Empire, was likely dealing with countless boys trying to impress her.

In some ways, she was a gold mine in the eyes of those nobles. Unlike Seles, who was destined to be cast aside, Hope was fated to inherit the greatest empire on the continent of Sylvara.

The mere thought of those two so-called chosen ones was enough to sour Seles’s mood once again as she continued toward the classroom.

Meanwhile, barely a short distance behind the emotionally turbulent Seles, walked another girl. Her face remained perfectly calm but her mind was in complete chaos behind those innocently blinking crimson eyes.

Why did I feel like that back then?

Just a few minutes earlier, Lily had been standing in the lobby of the world-class dormitory assigned to her, quietly minding her own business, when Rwar suddenly stirred within her shadow.

(Lily, look. It’s that weirdo. He is talking to some other girl today.)

That was what she had said.

Despite not caring about that boy, Lily had instinctively turned toward the direction Rwar pointed out, only to find Zenith smiling as he spoke with the orange-haired princess of the Holy Empire.

Lily recognised her immediately. After all, she was another one of the high-priority targets on her mission list.

Seles Divus Auremont.

Lily barely knew that boy or that princess and she barely cared about either of them and yet, the moment she saw them together, an indescribable rage had surged through her body.

She didn’t know where it had come from but for a single moment, murderous thoughts had flooded her mind and only Rwar’s sudden voice had snapped her out of that state.

Even now, several minutes later, she still couldn’t understand what the hell that had been.

Am I already losing my mind?

She silently wondered as Rwar’s voice echoed within her mind almost immediately.

(Don’t worry, Lily. I am always with you and you definitely weren’t losing your mind back then... it felt like something else.)

She paused for a moment before continuing.

(Whatever it was, though... I have a feeling it was triggered by that boy’s presence.)

(Also... it’s been fifteen days already. You should really eat something or things will only get worse, you know.)

Rwar tried to persuade her contractor.

...Alright.

Lily gave a small nod and continued walking.

Her gaze drifted slightly behind her, where the white-haired boy, Zenith, was making his way toward the classroom as well, that gentle smile still on his face as he caught her looking.

She turned around immediately and somehow...

Just looking at him made the corners of her own lips twitch once again.
