Chapter 59: Finally Found the Founder’s Reincarnation... Why Is He Trying to Kill Me?!
Did I... arrive too late?
The thought crossed my mind the moment I saw a cold-looking swordsman sliding his katana back into its sheath while a brown-haired man bled at his feet.
I immediately took Kosetsu out, ready to fight.
But before I could move, Rian’s voice echoed in my head once again.
"Oh great sir... that man... he is me?!"
Even Rian sounded as confused as me.
How the hell was a man who had never fought a single battle in his life now standing over someone with a bloodstained sword?
Hell, when I arrived, I had been certain the victim would be Rian’s reincarnation, not the criminal but it seems I had misunderstood everything.
"Hey—"
But before I could explain anything, Rian’s reincarnation lunged at me.
"Are you this man’s accomplice? Why are there so many of you?" His cold voice was laced with irritation. "Dammit... I am already tired."
The words had barely left his mouth before he was right in front of me. I immediately channeled mana through my body and leapt backward.
"Hey, wait! You are misunderstanding—"
I tried explaining once again but that bastard had no intention of listening.
His fist was already flying straight toward my face and the moment I dodged, his foot came crashing toward my head from an impossible angle.
I barely managed to redirect most of the impact through my body, minimizing the damage but even then, my head was still ringing like crazy as a trail of blood escaped my lips.
"..."
"...Fine."
I can always explain after knocking him unconscious.
I wiped the blood from my lips and sent Kosetsu back to my treasury. Swords were meant for killing but fists were meant for teaching someone a lesson.
I immediately raised my guard, bringing my fists in front of my face as I let out a slow breath.
The black-clad swordsman was already in front of me, swinging his blade horizontally toward my head but just as the sword came within inches of my face, I ducked.
Redirecting all the momentum from that single movement through the twist of my body, I drove my fist into his exposed ribs.
The punch connected.
But before it could sink any deeper, that bastard leapt back, minimizing the damage.
From what I could sense, he wasn’t much stronger than me, probably around Tier Four of the Awakened Rank. More importantly, the uniform he wore clearly belonged to a first-year student. Meaning, he was in the same class as me.
I didn’t know what reason he had for trying to murder someone so viciously but I didn’t care.
Before he could even regain his footing, I lunged at him once again. This time, he swung his sword downward in a vertical slash.
With minimal movement, I sidestepped before planting my foot against the wall of the nearby building.
Activating my Vector Affinity, the ability to manipulate the direction of force acting on my body, I planted my foot against the wall and sprinted along it for a few steps before kicking off, launching myself toward him.
Spinning midair to build as much momentum as possible, I closed the distance in an instant.
My mana was draining at an alarming rate and barely twenty percent remained after abusing it so recklessly.
But I was certain this would end it.
He instinctively raised his sword to block but just before my kick connected, I redirected all the accumulated momentum into my other leg using my Vector Affinity.
The attack changed direction in an instant.
His eyes widened in shock but it was simply too late.
The kick, carrying the full force of my momentum and mana, slammed into his ribs as he was sent flying. A moment later, he crashed into the wall of a distant building, cracks spreading across its surface.
When everything was over, I kneeled beside the brown-haired man Rian’s reincarnation had killed and checked for a pulse.
Unfortunately, he was dead.
Fortunately, within the darkness of the alley, surrounded by towering buildings, no one had witnessed the murder yet.
I spared the corpse only a single glance before rushing toward Rian’s unconscious body.
My knees and elbows hurt like hell.
I had cracked the joints in several places because the strength I had unleashed far exceeded what my current body could endure.
I was barely able to move, relying on the pitiful amount of mana I had left to use my Vectors to ease the strain on my already torn muscles and cracked bones.
Even taking a single step sent waves of pain through my body but I didn’t have a choice because I couldn’t leave this bastard here.
So, gritting my teeth, I picked up his unconscious body onto my back and after giving the dead man one last glance, I headed deeper into the alleys, making my way toward my dorm.
***
Thankfully, the path to my dorm wasn’t particularly crowded.
Most of the first-years were already inside their dorms, resting after a busy day, while others had gone out to explore the academy city with their newly made friends.
A few members of the Student Council narrowed their eyes on me but I simply told them that Rian had been injured during our training session and when they still looked unconvinced, I scared them off by dropping Rodrick’s name.
It was only a temporary solution.
But then again, this fucking bastard hadn’t left me with much of a choice.
Who the hell commits a murder on the very first day?
And for what reason?
Naturally, if things turned ugly, I had no intention of letting myself get dragged into it but there was always the possibility that he had a reason.
So, I decided to make my judgment only after hearing the whole story.
Lost in my thoughts, I finally arrived at the World-Class Dormitory. I swiftly stepped into the mana lift and headed for my apartment on the eighth floor.
Only after I entered my assigned apartment did I finally relax.
I tossed Rian’s unconscious reincarnation onto the couch before taking out the soulstone containing his soul.
"What the hell was that?"
Ever since the fight had started, and even while I was dragging his unconscious body back to my dorm, his soul had remained completely silent.
"Why the hell is your reincarnation murdering people so openly?"
I frowned.
"Has he loosened a screw or something? Doesn’t he even understand that if you are going to kill someone, you do it somewhere private without leaving behind a single trace?"
I didn’t know whether the dead man deserved it or not. What I cared about right now was the fact that this idiot had left enough evidence to bring the entire Student Council down on us.
Rian looked at me, then at his reincarnated self, before muttering, still speechless.
"I... don’t know what happened, oh great sir... but this is definitely the other half of this Great Personality."
He swallowed nervously.
"Could you please place the soulstone on his body? Only then can I merge with him, become whole again, and understand everything."
I looked at Rian’s transparent figure floating before me for a moment before shifting my gaze back to his reincarnation.
"Alright. I will do that." My voice turned slightly colder. "But if your reincarnated self dares to attack me again, I will kill him without the slightest hesitation."
"Do you understand?"
Rian nodded, his eyes trembling.
"Y-Yes..."
"Good."
I nodded in return before placing the soulstone on his reincarnated body’s chest and then I sat down on the couch opposite them.
The soulstone slowly dissolved into countless motes of light before completely merging with his body as a blinding radiance erupted, flooding the entire room.
Within moments, the light compressed into a single point before being swallowed back into Rian’s body and the moment it vanished, his grey eyes snapped open as he immediately turned toward me.
