Chapter 52: I Came Here To Save You, Lily.

"It’s nice to meet you as well, Princess Seles."

Seles Divus Auremont.

My first wife from my previous life and the one behind most of my misfortune.

Back then, I was a disgrace, convicted of stealing the queen’s panties. Amyra had been forced into a political marriage with that bastard prince because of my scandal and even my own family pretended I didn’t exist.

Everyone avoided me like a plague except her.

She came like a light in my darkest time.

She would appear with tea on the days I skipped meals, she would sit beside me for hours without asking for anything and when I called myself worthless, she would smile and say,

"You are not worthless, others are simply too blind to see your value."

Looking back, I don’t think she ever let me blame myself for anything. If I failed, it was someone else’s fault, if I made a mistake, someone had forced my hand and if people hated me, they were jealous.

It felt comforting and it also made me stop questioning myself but the moment I started recovering, the moment I began standing on my own, she betrayed me and only then did I understand.

Seles never fell in love with the man I was becoming, she loved the man who needed her and the moment I no longer needed someone to hold me together, I became someone she couldn’t control.

By the time I realized what she had been doing, I was alone again and the world began knowing me only as the Demon King, a monster to be feared and hated.

Only Lily remained by my side while some of my wives fell victim to Seles’s whispers, turning against me one after another, some simply walked away, unable to forgive what they believed I had done while the others... sacrificed themselves to save me.

In the end...

The woman who once claimed she had saved me was the one who made sure I had no one left to save me from myself.

So, seeing her again after so many years, I expected to feel something, maybe anger or even disappointment but surprisingly, I felt nothing at all except faint amusement at just how deep her act had been to fool even me in my previous life...

...and maybe just the slight urge to kill her right at this moment.

"You sure have the nerve to show your face after the vile thing you did."

She spoke with the same reckless arrogance she had displayed in my previous life. Though beneath that childish façade, she was probably already calculating exactly how useful I could be to her.

In a way she was probing me just like last time but I didn’t plan to show my quiet side like I did in my last life.

"I do not understand what you mean by such harsh words, Princess."

I smiled politely.

"I assume you are not suggesting that despite His Majesty the Emperor himself, as well as the Goddess herself, declaring my innocence, you still believe me to be guilty?"

Her expression froze and almost instantly, the chatter throughout the classroom died down.

"But despite all that, I can understand your anger, Princess and I sincerely hope you can find it within your benevolent heart to let go of that prejudice."

The corner of her lips twitched ever so slightly.

As I spoke, I extended my hand toward her because she was the one, the bitch I intended to use as the first test subject for my [[Eye of Usurper]] because she possessed a Talent capable of solving one of my greatest problems.

"Tsk."

Her gaze shifted from my outstretched hand to my face and then, without a moment’s hesitation, she clicked her tongue, ignored my hand entirely and returned to her seat.

A sigh escaped my lips, looking at her like that.

I needed physical contact to place the mark of the usurper. Still I didn’t rush because although there were other ways to do it, I would rather not resort to anything suspicious.

Because knowing her, she would capitalize on even the slightest touch if it meant drawing attention to herself. Besides, there would be plenty of opportunities to touch her today.

Just as I was about to let the matter go and look for where my Lily was seated, someone stepped in front of me, someone with features remarkably similar to Seles.

Aurelion.

"Zenith!" He beamed for some inexplicable reason. "It’s really good to see you again. I hope we can get along during our time at the academy."

"Nice to meet you as well, Prince Aurelion." I returned his greeting politely, only for his smile to widen even further.

"Come on, there is no need to be so formal." He laughed. "We are here to learn, not to play politics. Just call me Aurelion, will you?"

As optimistic as ever.

"Alright, Aurelion." I didn’t bother arguing with the idiot. "I hope we can get along as well."

"Why don’t we sit together?"

He pointed toward the first row but I simply shook my head.

"Thank you for the offer but I am not sure Princess Seles would appreciate that."

His gaze immediately shifted toward Seles, who was already glaring daggers at me from her seat as Aurelion simply chuckled.

"I hope you can forgive her rudeness, Zenith. She is just... a little too honest and straightforward sometimes." His voice dropped to a whisper. "Though I do hope she learns not to judge everything at face value."

I simply nodded.

Sometimes I genuinely felt sorry for this guy because out of everyone, he believed Seles to be an innocent girl.

Not that I blamed him.

If my sister asked me to murder someone, I wouldn’t bother asking for a reason as well.

"The class will be starting soon, so I will take my seat now, Aurelion."

With those parting words, I made my way toward the back of the classroom.

The lecture hall was enormous, accommodating nearly a hundred students. High nobles from kingdoms and empires across all three continents filled the seats.

Giants, Dwarves, Merfolk, Dryads, Fairies, Dragons and many more.

Students from every major race were present, though the overwhelming majority were still humans, blessed with their monstrous reproductive ability.

But even among them, seated alone in the very last row was one particular girl. She belonged to none of those noble circles.

The only commoner and the outcast in the World Class.

Lily.

Without a moment’s hesitation, I walked straight toward her, ignoring the countless nobles who called out to me and offered me seats beside them.

Every seat in her row remained empty because to the nobles, sitting beside a mere commoner was nothing short of a disgrace and the class was massive enough to have countless desks that missing a single row made no difference.

"What’s he doing?"

"Don’t tell me... he is actually going to sit next to that commoner?"

"How foolish."

"Tsk... and here I thought he was handsome."

"How dare he refuse to sit with me?"

The whispers grew louder with every step I took. Completely ignoring them, I stopped beside Lily’s seat.

She looked at me with the same cold and emotionless expression.

"Hello. Nice to meet you."

I extended my hand toward her with a wide smile.

"I am Zenith..."

"...and I came to save you."
