Chapter 50: Beginning of the Academy.
What was that about?
Lily wondered as she watched the boy being dragged away by the Student Council member who had been accusing her of cheating only moments ago.
She knew who he was.
After all, he was one of the targets assigned to her mission, the heir of Ruinbringer and the Duke’s son.
Zenith Ruinbringer.
But she had never met him before. Nor had she ever seen him and yet, for some inexplicable reason, he felt strangely familiar.
More importantly, the shadow beneath her feet stirred as the small pink creature hidden within it shifted uneasily.
This time, not out of hostility but because of something she couldn’t quite understand.
’What happened, Rwar?’
[That boy is strange...]
[It felt as though he noticed me.]
[Be careful, Lily.]
Those were the only words the creature spoke before falling silent once more.
Lily gave a quiet nod before following the Student Council members toward the exit. Her performance had already secured her admission into the World Class.
Just before leaving, however, she glanced back one last time as her eyes met the boy’s. He was still looking at her even as his brother dragged him out, still wearing that same gentle smile as only a single thought crossed her mind.
Weirdo.

[Zenith’s POV]
My gaze finally shifted toward Rodrick as I pulled his hand off my neck and looked at him.
"So, where are we going?"
"Somewhere quiet."
I simply nodded and followed after him.
Honestly, I didn’t really wish to waste my time talking to a future corpse. Although I was being quite benevolent in this life, there were still a few people I had absolutely no intention of leaving alive.
Rodrick was one of them.
He was someone I would kill without hesitation, no matter how many times I regressed.
Not only was this bastard the reason Cedric stole the Queen’s undergarments and framed me, but he was also responsible for Lily’s accursed first semester.
And that was merely the surface of it all.
This bastard had done far worse. He framed me and Lily for crimes far more severe, ultimately forcing Nyxara to sacrifice herself just to save me and help me escape to the other continents with Lily.
Within a few minutes, we arrived at the very top of the audience stands, where a small booth overlooked the arena.
Two Student Council members were seated inside.
With a single glare from Rodrick, they immediately understood and quietly excused themselves, leaving the booth to us.
He gestured for me to enter.
Without bothering with any formalities, I took one of the chairs while he sat opposite me.
"What are you doing here, Zenith?" he asked in a low voice. "And in such a pathetic condition, no less. Have you forgotten even the basics of decorum?"
My smile widened.
"I never thought I’d live to see the day I would have to hear you lecture me about decorum, Rodick." I deliberately mispronounced his name. "After all, weren’t you the one who convinced poor Cedric to do something so... vile?"
I leaned back in my chair.
"I wonder what everyone would say if they found out about it."
His expression remained perfectly composed despite the deliberate jab.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about and it isn’t wise to accuse someone without a shred of evidence, don’t you think?"
"Who said I don’t have any?"
His expression shifted ever so slightly.
Well, technically, I had nothing but he didn’t need to know that.
Rodrick was anything but reckless. He was like a serpent, a patient hunter, who didn’t mind taking a few hits if it meant perfect attack. But that same nature made him far too cautious.
"You’re bluffing."
"Am I?"
"What do you want?" He finally gave in, just as I had expected.
"Glad we’re finally on the same page, brother."
I leaned forward slightly.
"All I want is for you to mind your own business and stay out of mine. Don’t interfere with my class or anything I choose to do with them."
"Sounds like a fair deal, doesn’t it?"
Despite not being particularly gifted physically, Rodrick was highly influential within the noble circle. Even as nothing more than a Student Council member, he was already the unofficial leader and the one expected to succeed the current Student Council President.
Although I would have preferred to kill him immediately, there was still some use left in him.
"As long as you do that," I said with a smile, "I promise I won’t cause you much trouble."
As I said it, I activated my [[Eye of Usurper]] as his status window appeared before me.
════〔 STATUS 〕═════
▸ Name: ⟦ Rodrick Von Runbringer ⟧
▸ Role: ⟦ None ⟧
▸ Talent: ⟦ Serpent’s Tounge ⟧
▸ Core: ⟦ Tier III Enlightened ⟧
▸ Note: ⟦ An otherwise unremarkable man with little to his name besides a poisonous tongue and an annoyingly sharp mind. Still, try not to underestimate him. Sometimes, words can kill far faster than swords.⟧
══════════════════
There wasn’t much surprising about the note. From the looks of it, his Talent also appeared to be non-combat oriented.
It was honestly astonishing how much influence this guy had managed to accumulate in my previous life.
In some ways, he had controlled almost all of my siblings and was even on the verge of becoming the Duke himself...
...naturally, before I slaughtered them all.
"Alright."
He nodded reluctantly.
"Great." I rose from my chair. "Now that everything’s settled, I will take my leave. My classes will begin tomorrow, after all."
I walked toward the exit before pausing at the door.
"Oh and do pass along my regards to all our brothers and sisters in the academy. Tell them I said hello and while you are at it... tell them not to interfere with me either."
"Otherwise... you will be the one paying the price."
I had two brothers and three sisters studying at the academy, spread across the different years. Not that I had any intention of mingling with them.
With those thoughts, I stepped out of the booth.
The academy would begin tomorrow and this time, I intended to enjoy it unlike in my previous life.
