Chapter 424: Chapter 424: I Hope You’ll Think of Me First

But Felix Kendall waited for a long time, only to hear Tanya Sinclair lightly say, "Dad, I’m a bit tired. Can we talk another day?"

It was pretty clear; she still wasn’t ready to bring up Declan Pierce.

Felix Kendall let out a soft breath.

Only when she can mention him, has she truly moved on.

It was evident that Tanya hadn’t yet come to terms with Declan Pierce’s death.

But that’s okay, he has time to wait.

"Uncle Yates." Felix Kendall strode over.

Wesley Yates and Tanya turned back together; the sunlight was nice today, Felix Kendall had changed into his casual attire, his handsome face looked even more striking against a black coat.

He greeted Wesley Yates first, then let his gaze rest on Tanya Sinclair.

"I brought you some pastries along the way."

Wesley Yates was well aware of his intentions; he also hoped his precious daughter could interact more with new people.

"I’m a bit tired, I won’t have the pastries. I’ll go lie down for a bit first, I need to have a round of examinations this afternoon."

Tanya Sinclair said, "Dad, I’ll accompany you back..."

"No need. You’re out today, get some sun, breathe in some fresh air." Wesley Yates looked at Felix Kendall, "Mr. Kendall, thank you for keeping Tanya company."

With that, Wesley Yates turned and headed towards the inpatient building, the caregiver who had been nearby immediately approached.

Tanya watched her father’s back disappear around the corner, then slowly resumed walking forward. Felix Kendall walked behind her leisurely, hands behind his back.

The sunlight elongated their shadows, like an intimate couple.

Felix Kendall stared silently for a few seconds, then smiled.

"Why are you smiling?" Tanya asked.

Felix Kendall didn’t feel caught off guard, raising an eyebrow and turning the tables: "What? Have you taken an interest in me?"

Tanya was a bit speechless, "But I didn’t ask."

Felix Kendall handed her a piece of pastry, "Try it."

Tanya was about to refuse, but heard Felix Kendall continue, "Margaret loves eating this at home, she specifically instructed me to bring some for you to try. She said you’d like it."

"..." Tanya hesitated on her rejection, and swallowed it back; she took it, took a bite, the sweet but not greasy taste melted on her tongue, "It’s delicious."

Tanya’s appetite had been poor these days, but considering Margaret, she ate two pieces.

Felix Kendall smirked; of course, using a child would make Tanya make an exception.

"Mr. Kendall, I haven’t properly thanked you for saving my life on Pyralis."

"I’m a soldier, protecting civilians is my duty," Felix Kendall replied nonchalantly.

What he wanted was never her gratitude.

Tanya pulled her pale lips, "You may not need it, but I can’t not express it. I’ll remember this kindness. If you need any help in the future, just let me know."

Felix Kendall smiled and wasn’t pretentious, "Alright."

Tanya said quietly, "I plan to be discharged in a couple of days. Caden is waiting for me at home, and there is still some cleanup work at the research institute I need to handle."

Declan Pierce gave her so many reasons to live; she couldn’t immerse herself in pain forever.

As long as a person is alive, they must keep moving forward.

Felix Kendall gazed at her, after a moment he spoke: "Tanya Sinclair, are we friends?"

"Of course, we are. We are friends who shared life and death."

Felix Kendall chuckled, "Well then, no matter how difficult or painful things become for you, when you need someone’s company, I hope you’ll think of me as your friend first and contact me. Anytime, anyplace."

Tanya was slightly taken aback, a bit surprised, but seeing that Felix Kendall wasn’t joking at all, she earnestly nodded.

"Alright, thank you, Felix Kendall."

The day Tanya was discharged, it was still a rare good day in winter.

Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting into the ward, covering everything in a layer of pale gold.

Tanya changed into her own clothes; a simple cream-colored sweater, dark pants, her hair was casually pinned at the back with a hairpin. She had lost too much weight over these days, the clothes hung loosely on her, making her frame appear frail.

Wesley still needed to stay in the hospital for further observation; military personnel were all stationed there, waiting for Wesley to recover enough to provide testimony and confidential information.

Wesley helped Tanya pack her things, which were just daily necessities and a few pieces of clothing.

"Dad, please sit down, I’ll do it myself." Tanya walked over, gently pressed her father’s shoulders to have him sit down, "Once your health improves, I’ll bring you home. In a couple of days, I’ll bring Caden and Joy to visit you."
