Chapter 412: Chapter 412: Declan Pierce Is Dead
Jasper Monroe stared blankly at Daisy Bell.
"Losing... is it really that important?" he mechanically repeated the words.
Daisy Bell noticed something was off with him and grew a bit concerned, "Mr. Monroe, you still..."
Before she could finish the word "okay," Jasper Monroe suddenly, silently pulled her into his embrace.
Daisy was startled and instinctively wanted to struggle, but she first heard Jasper’s voice, husky and trembling, almost pleading with her.
"Let me hold you for a moment, just for a minute... please."
Daisy froze, her hand that was about to push him away paused in mid-air, hesitated, and slowly lowered.
Though Jasper Monroe said nothing extra, her empathetic ability as an actress allowed her to clearly feel that Jasper was deeply sad at that moment.
The emotions pent up inside him were almost overflowing, heavy and enveloping her as well.
Daisy’s body gradually relaxed. She raised a hand, intending to pat his back in comfort, "Mr. Monroe..."
Jasper Monroe released her with restraint, "Thank you. I apologize for my presumptuousness, Ms. Bell."
One minute, and he was this distressed, yet he could still forcibly control his emotions...
Daisy looked at Jasper, her expression complex, filled with both sympathy and curiosity.
She needed quite some time to get into and out of character...
A black sedan pulled up, stopping in front of Jasper Monroe. The driver opened the rear door, like an emotionless robot, reminding Jasper, "Mr. Monroe, Madam just personally contacted The Presidential Palace to postpone the meeting time. If you head there now, you can still make it."
Before Jasper could speak, his phone in his pocket rang.
He pulled it out to take a glance at the caller. It was his mother.
Jasper Monroe closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and answered, "Mom."
Mrs. Monroe: "The meeting with the senators at The Presidential Palace, why was it suddenly canceled? You have other schedules tomorrow, and for the next two months, you won’t have time to fly back domestically. Until we find the most suitable marriage alliance for you..."
Jasper listened quietly, as if he had long abandoned the concept of emotions.
Mrs. Monroe sensed something amiss and paused slightly, "What’s wrong? Is it your brother or a work issue?"
"No," Jasper slowly replied, "I... lost someone very important."
Just as Daisy was about to leave, she heard this sentence and stopped in her tracks. She turned back to look at Jasper; dressed all in black, he stood there like a wisp of forgotten night, lonely and forlorn, seemingly ready to shatter in the breeze...
Mrs. Monroe let out a faint chuckle, indifferent; "Lost is lost. No one in this world will accompany you forever. Do you expect to cry and have me comfort you? I thought I cured your emotional indulgence issue when you were little, Jasper."
"..."
Of course, Jasper remembered. When he was six, his mother gave him a puppy as a birthday present. He liked it very much, taking it everywhere with him, naming it Pearl.
When he was ten, Pearl disappeared. His mother took him to a shooting range and told him if he hit the target’s bullseye with ten bullets, he could see Pearl again.
He did as told; ten bullets, each hitting the bullseye, and then his mother took him to the back of the target where a black bag was hanging, blood seeping out, staining the ground red...
Jasper didn’t have the courage to open the bag for a look.
That was a lesson from his mother; she wanted him to know that in his position, he couldn’t afford to care. Once you care, you have a weakness...
Jasper closed his eyes and said quietly, "I’m going to the appointment now. I’ll return to the Swiss after talking with The Presidential Palace."
"Hmm." Only then did Mrs. Monroe feel satisfied and hung up.
Just as Jasper was about to get in the car, his arm was suddenly grabbed.
He turned to look at Daisy Bell, who stopped him, and frowned slightly in confusion, "Ms. Bell?"
Daisy Bell: "Mr. Monroe, I treated you to a meal before. As an exchange, could you spare an hour to accompany me?"
Half an hour later, Jasper followed Daisy to the dock.
She led him around, avoiding crowds, and finally arrived at an abandoned large ship.
The cabin was warmly decorated.
"I bought this ship because no one wanted it and it couldn’t be repaired, so it was very cheap. I use it as my secret base," Daisy said earnestly. "Whenever I’m upset, I come here to stay for a while."
The window offered a view of the sea.
Daisy told Jasper, "My mom used to teach me, in times of extreme sadness when you can’t express it, to look at the sea and silently tell it all your pain. This method works really well."
Daisy thought, losing someone important—no one understood this feeling better than her.
This sounded as beautiful as a fairy tale, and Jasper glanced at Daisy, suddenly asking, "Why do all this for me?"
Daisy: "I just hope you can be a little happier, Mr. Monroe. You’re a good person. You deserve to be happier."
Jasper looked deeply at Daisy.
Happy?
This word seemed to have never been relevant to his life...
Daisy generously opened her arms wide: "If you want another hug, this time I’ll give you ten minutes!"
Jasper let out a soft chuckle, and just as Daisy thought he wouldn’t take up her offer and was about to lower her arms, Jasper suddenly hugged her.
"It’s Declan," he whispered the name in her ear, "He was my only friend."
Daisy was utterly stunned, beyond shocked.
"Tanya’s... Declan?" Daisy nearly bit her tongue. "Declan... he died?"
"Yes," Jasper didn’t hide it from her.
Daisy felt overwhelmed, not even having time to ask why Declan had died.
"What about Tanya? She’s still on a business trip. When she gets back and hears this news, she’ll cry to death... she won’t survive it..."
"No," Jasper gently squeezed her shoulders to calm her down, "Tanya Sinclair will live well because she has attachments, not just her child, but also her biological father..."
Declan’s painstaking effort to send Tanya Sinclair to Pyralis, he finally understood.
Because on Pyralis, there was Tanya’s biological father.
He knew what Tanya cared about most was family, so he went to great lengths, exhausting his heart, to bring what she wanted to her side.
With attachments, Tanya wouldn’t sacrifice herself for Declan.
He knew Tanya too well, knew exactly how to make her keep living...
