Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Bullying Honest People
Hospital.
The corridor leading to the intensive care unit was long and cool. Jasper Monroe, dressed in a suit, his tall and slender figure walked through the corridor.
A window on one side was not fully closed, letting in the cold wind that lifted the curtains.
Today’s rare sunny day, the sunlight dazzled as it fell on Jasper Monroe, yet it felt cool.
The winter sun, even lacking warmth.
Jasper Monroe adjusted the glasses on his nose. As he reached the door of the intensive care ward, he saw the door being suddenly opened.
Dr. Wells and several medical staff hurriedly pushed Declan Pierce out.
"Quick! Prepare for resuscitation!"
Janne Hayes followed with a pale face, not even noticing Jasper Monroe’s appearance until he stumbled, almost falling, caught by Jasper Monroe’s outstretched hand. He turned back, face white, shouting, "Mr. Monroe... our President Pierce, he..."
Janne couldn’t continue. Jasper Monroe gripped his shoulder forcefully.
The two of them waited outside the resuscitation room, and a hospital staff member handed a resuscitation consent form to Jasper Monroe.
"Mr. Monroe, Mr. Pierce previously left two names under the family section, one was Tanya Sinclair, the other was you. Please sign as a family member."
Jasper Monroe was silent for a moment, then took out his pen and signed his name.
Time ticked by, second by second.
Jasper Monroe glanced at his watch. He was always efficiency-oriented, his mind calculating the day’s schedule.
In two hours, he had a golf appointment with a few specialists from The Presidential Palace...
He looked at the red light on the resuscitation room door, feeling it all somewhat surreal.
He had known Declan Pierce for many years, almost everything about him, he had suffered unimaginable pain and torment... How could he be defeated this time?
As Jasper Monroe was about to leave, the light on the resuscitation room door went out.
Jasper Monroe’s broad back slightly halted.
The next second, the door opened, Dr. Wells came out and removed his mask, his face full of exhaustion and defeat.
Janne Hayes rushed up, his entire body trembling, "Dr. Wells, our President Pierce, he... did he survive?"
Dr. Wells slowly shook his head, "Mr. Hayes, I did my best. I’m sorry for your loss."
Janne’s body shook violently, his legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground.
Jasper Monroe forcefully closed his eyes, the feeling of unreality intensified.
He stepped forward, "May I go in and take a look?"
"You can... but Mr. Monroe, you should be mentally prepared. The scene of the resuscitation might not be... Mr. Monroe!"
Jasper Monroe didn’t seem to hear him, already stepping inside.
He saw Declan Pierce on the operating table, complications had spread to his heart, and the surgical incision had been sutured, leaving gnarled, scarlet stitches at his heart.
Declan Pierce lay there with his eyes closed, his once almost devilishly handsome face now entirely devoid of color, not a hint of blood.
Jasper Monroe wanted to get closer, to see more clearly, but felt as if an invisible hand was gripping his throat, strangling him, he could barely breathe...
Jasper Monroe forgot how he left the resuscitation room.
He walked out, calmly arranging the follow-up matters with Janne Hayes in the capacity of Declan Pierce’s family, but throughout the process, it felt as though his soul was detached from his body.
"Mr. Monroe..." Janne’s eyes were red from holding back tears, he rubbed his eyes fiercely, "Should we wait for Ms. Sinclair to come back before holding the funeral for President Pierce?"
Jasper Monroe was momentarily lost in thought.
He recalled what Declan Pierce had said to him before the surgery.
He said, "Jasper Monroe, if I can’t live to see her return, remember to dress my body up handsomely. Our Princess Tanya once praised this face of mine..."
Jasper Monroe tugged at his pale lips, slowly saying, "Wait for Tanya Sinclair to come back. It should be just these couple of days."
After all, everything was meticulously arranged by Declan Pierce. He must have calculated Tanya Sinclair’s return time.
Perhaps everything was within his plan, including the timing of his death.
After leaving the hospital, Jasper Monroe got into the car.
His mind was filled with the image of Declan Pierce’s body, lying pale and lifeless on the colder operating table, the scene etched into his mind, unable to be shaken off...
"Stop the car!" Jasper Monroe suddenly called out.
The driver, not understanding, but entirely obedient to Jasper Monroe’s words, pulled over to the side of the road.
Jasper Monroe instructed, "I’ll walk alone. Don’t follow me."
The driver hesitated, "But Mr. Monroe, you have an appointment later..."
"Cancel it." Jasper Monroe said and stepped out of the car.
For the first time, Jasper Monroe didn’t know his destination, just walking on the street, among the crowd.
But his entire being seemed enveloped by an invisible glass, the bustling world around him silent.
In haste, he accidentally bumped into someone.
"I’m sorry..."
Jasper Monroe softly apologized, intending to leave, but was grabbed by the other person.
It was a man in his sixties, upon seeing Jasper Monroe’s impressive demeanor, immediately sat on the ground, holding onto Jasper Monroe, loudly shouting.
"Oh, my leg! Young man, you’ve broken it, you can’t leave! Oh, my head hurts too..."
Many passersby were drawn by the old man’s exaggerated cries.
On the roadside, a nanny car was stopped outside the yellow line, waiting for a red light.
Inside the car, the assistant Mia noticed the situation on the roadside.
"Oh my, isn’t this blatant extortion! Bullying honest people!"
