Chapter 398: Chapter 398: It’s Better That She’s Dead
Aris, Airport.
Vincent Hawthorne leaned against a black SUV, anxiously waiting while staring at the airport exit.
Finally, he saw the familiar figure of Yvonne Hawthorne appear.
"Brother!"
Yvonne ran towards him, and Vincent quickly walked a few steps forward to greet her. He noticed two men following behind Yvonne. Although they were in civilian clothes, their posture was extraordinarily upright, exuding an aura of being alert and perceptive, clearly military personnel.
"Brother..." Yvonne’s eyes turned red as soon as she saw Vincent, petulantly complaining, "You have no idea what I’ve been through these past times... that wretched island, bugs everywhere biting me to death! They even locked me in a cage..."
Vincent had no intention of comforting her, sarcastically mocking, "You brought this upon yourself, couldn’t even stay put, insisting on running after Felix Kendall! A little suffering is what you deserve."
Yvonne was displeased, "Brother!"
Vincent ignored her, turning his attention to the two military men who had accompanied her back.
"Thank you for your hard work, gentlemen."
They nodded slightly, then said, "Mr. Hawthorne, please keep an eye on Ms. Hawthorne for the foreseeable future, and don’t let her leave Aris."
Vincent frowned slightly in confusion; before he could inquire further, Yvonne started shouting.
"Why restrict my personal freedom! I’m not your prisoner!"
Vincent glared at Yvonne, then politely asked, "Did Yvonne get herself into some trouble outside?"
"We don’t really know the details. We’re just following Crawford’s instructions," the man said. "Until Ms. Sinclair returns safely, please ensure Ms. Hawthorne stays put in Aris and doesn’t go anywhere."
Upon hearing Tanya Sinclair’s name, Vincent’s expression changed slightly.
"What happened to Tanya Sinclair? Didn’t she return safely?"
The man explained honestly, "As far as I know, Crawford had arranged the rescue well; the helicopter was ready, and Ms. Sinclair was already picked up. Ms. Hawthorne somehow also ended up at the scene, and in the end, only Ms. Hawthorne was brought back."
After hearing this, Vincent’s expression darkened further; he looked almost grimly at Yvonne.
"What exactly happened?"
Yvonne’s eyes darted around, "Brother, the situation was very complex at that time. It was sis-in-law who fell by herself..."
After all, having grown up together as siblings, Vincent easily knew Yvonne was lying!
However, with the military personnel still present, Vincent refrained from saying much, suppressing his anger as he saw them off.
"Thank you both; rest assured, I won’t let Yvonne leave Aris by even a step!" Vincent handed over a business card voluntarily. "If there’s any news about Tanya Sinclair, please inform me promptly; she’s my ex-wife and the mother of my two children. I’m very concerned about her."
"Alright, if there’s news, we’ll let you know. Don’t worry too much, Crawford’s side is already arranging a second rescue mission. I believe Ms. Sinclair will return safely soon."
"Thank you."
After sending off the two military men, Vincent coldly glanced at Yvonne.
"Brother..." Yvonne reached out trying to grab him, but Vincent shook her off.
"Get in the car, we’ll talk there."
Yvonne knew Vincent was really angry and didn’t dare provoke him any further, obediently getting in the car.
Suppressing his anger, Vincent asked as calmly as possible while driving, "Tell me the truth, what exactly happened at the scene? Why did they only rescue you and not bring back Tanya Sinclair?"
Yvonne naturally wouldn’t confess that it was her that caused Tanya Sinclair to fall from the helicopter.
"The situation was too urgent then; Tanya Sinclair and I were both clinging to the rescue rope, climbing up to the helicopter. Brother... you know I’m afraid of heights." Yvonne, in tears, pitifully said, "My legs went weak, and I slipped, accidentally stepping on Tanya’s hand. I even tried turning back to grab her, but she didn’t hold on herself and fell back into the sea..."
Vincent was not willing to easily believe her, his eyes sharp.
"Are you telling the truth?"
"Of course!" Yvonne exclaimed anxiously, "What do you want me to do? Jump down with her? So we both die?"
’Screech—’ The car came to a sudden stop by the roadside.
Vincent’s breathing was a bit heavy as he sternly said, "Shut up! I’m telling you, nothing will happen to Tanya Sinclair!"
Yvonne was startled, shrinking back a bit, "Brother, why are you so fierce! I came back safely, didn’t I? Tanya Sinclair is just your ex-wife now; why do you care about her so much? Frankly, it’s better if she’s dead; no one will fight you for Caden and Joy’s custody then!"
"Yvonne Hawthorne!"
