Chapter 397: Chapter 397: Likes to See Her Lose Control

Janne Hayes looked at Dr. Wells who came out, wanting to step forward, but his legs wouldn’t cooperate, rigid and unable to move.

"Dr. Wells, President Pierce... how is he?"

Dr. Wells took off his mask, sighed, and his expression was somewhat grave: "The surgery results were about what Mr. Pierce expected. Unfortunately, no miracle happened..."

Janne swayed, almost collapsing. Dr. Wells wanted to support him, but Janne waved his hand to indicate he was fine.

Dr. Wells apologized, "Mr. Hayes, I’m very sorry..."

Janne forced a smile, "I was prepared for this. President Pierce had anticipated this outcome himself. Since that’s the case, let’s continue according to his prior plans... thank you for your cooperation, Dr. Wells."

"Alright."

...

Tanya Sinclair had been unconscious all night and was finally awakened by the heat.

When she woke up, she was drenched in sweat. Her clothes stuck to her, feeling very uncomfortable.

Groggily, she opened her eyes and saw the ceiling was a mud dome. Tanya slowly realized she was still on Pyralis Island.

Just as she was about to move, her arm was suddenly gripped tightly. Turning her head, Tanya saw Felix Kendall sitting by her side, asleep with his eyes closed. One of his hands was resting next to hers, his fingertips pressing against the edge of her clothes, so when she moved slightly, he instinctively grabbed her.

He wasn’t awake, but years of training had instilled a vigilance that made his body respond first.

Tanya shifted her gaze and saw only the ashes of a fire, and a cool cloth stuck to her forehead. She surmised that Felix had cared for her all night.

Guessing he fell asleep at dawn, Tanya wanted him to rest a little longer, so she lay still.

Today, her fever had subsided a bit, and her mind gradually cleared. She began reviewing last night’s conversation with Felix, analyzing the current situation... really wanting to understand why Tom brought her here, but it seemed necessary to meet the mysterious person in captivity.

Tanya vaguely felt something was off.

Yet, she couldn’t figure it out just yet.

Just then, her stomach growled involuntarily, and she instinctively covered her belly.

Almost simultaneously, Felix’s deep, hoarse voice sounded beside her: "Awake? How are you feeling?"

Felix rubbed his eyes, then looked at her, his black pupils veined with red, clearly exhausted.

"Yes. Thank you for taking care of me all night. I feel much better now," Tanya said seriously, "Felix Kendall, I owe you a favor."

Sure enough, as soon as she was clear-headed, she wanted to settle the score with him.

She kept the favor noted, not wanting to have too many entanglements with him.

Felix suppressed the slight bitterness in his heart, curled his lips, and casually said, "Serving the people is my duty. Don’t worry about it. Even if it hadn’t been you with the high fever last night, I would have taken care of any citizen from my country with all my effort."

He spoke on a higher level, so Tanya didn’t have much to say.

She smiled, "Anyway, thank you, Officer Kendall."

Felix got up and stretched his stiff body, telling Tanya to wait for a moment before heading out.

Not long after, Felix returned.

He brought back some edible fruit, clean water, and a few herbs.

"You’re the expert with medicine, I won’t pretend to know. You handle it as you see fit."

Tanya first drank some water, then ate the fruit to fill her stomach. She picked up the herbs Felix brought and identified them carefully. Two of them were suitable for her current symptoms, though it would be best to brew them into a medicinal soup, but without the means here...

Tanya chewed the herbs dry, the bitterness causing her eyebrows to furrow into a knot.

Felix watched her, unable to help but laugh: "I thought you doctors weren’t afraid of bitter medicines."

Tanya defended her fellow doctors with mock seriousness, "Our taste buds are just like everyone else’s, Officer Kendall. Don’t treat us differently."

Felix’s smile deepened.

He cherished this moment, on a lonely island in a foreign land, feeling as if he and Tanya only had each other...

He even selfishly hoped that time would pass a little more slowly.

However, the light-hearted and warm atmosphere was soon interrupted by two gunshots echoing from afar.

Felix’s expression instantly turned serious and alert, Tanya stood up with him, her nerves tensing.

"We can’t stay here any longer, I’ll take you to the village," Felix said in a low voice, handing Tanya a sharp, small dagger, "Keep this with you, as a doctor you should know best where human’s vital points are..."

He looked into Tanya’s eyes, "At critical moments, don’t hesitate!"

Tanya nodded firmly, "I know. Don’t worry, I won’t hold you back."

Felix led Tanya out of the cave, heading towards the village.

The rainforest teemed with insects, and he occasionally glanced back at Tanya to check on her condition.

Tanya kept up closely, though she showed no outward signs of distress, Felix could tell she was somewhat afraid of snakes.

As a green snake slithered over Tanya’s shoe, her whole body visibly froze.

"Don’t be afraid." Felix casually picked up the snake, "It’s not venomous. Want to try holding it?"

Tanya’s face turned pale, "Felix!"

Felix suppressed his slightly upturned lips and tossed the snake away before continuing on with her.

He realized that he couldn’t help but let his childish side show in front of Tanya, just like a young boy experiencing his first crush.

He liked seeing her lose composure, unsettled. It felt like it brought him a little closer to her...
