Chapter 396: Chapter 396: Stolen Tenderness

Felix Kendall crushed the medicinal herbs and fed them to Tanya Sinclair.

"Tanya Sinclair, open your mouth."

She was too feverish, unable to hear him.

Felix muttered softly, "Then, let me apologize first."

He carefully propped Tanya up, letting her lean against him, pried open her mouth, fed her the herbs, and then gave her water.

The bitterness of the herbs stimulated her taste buds, and Tanya, dazed and half-opened her eyes, her vision blurred. She raised her head, only seeing a silhouette, unable to discern who it was.

But her remaining rationality reminded her of her surroundings.

"Felix Kendall..."

"Hmm, I’m here."

Tanya’s eyes weakly closed again, and she murmured intermittently, "If... if Tom and the others find us, you should run and not worry about me... they won’t, won’t kill me."

After speaking, she leaned on his shoulder and drifted back into a dazed sleep.

Felix remained silent, lowering his gaze to the person in his arms, unsure of what he felt inside.

At this moment, she completely depended on him.

Tom surely wouldn’t kill her. In fact, seeing Tanya in such torment, Tom would likely be terrified, wouldn’t he? If anything really happened to Tanya, that madman Declan Pierce would probably have myriad ways to make them wish they were dead.

——But why?

If all of this was orchestrated by Declan Pierce and he intentionally sent Tanya here, he must have known about his actions on Pyralis Island.

Felix suddenly felt a chill down his spine.

Could it be that even he was just another piece in Pierce’s design?

He gently laid Tanya back on the grass bed, heated the nearby spring water, found a clean cloth as a towel, and placed it on her forehead.

He calculated the time it would take for the towel to cool, then replenished it with hot water repeatedly throughout the night until Tanya’s fever subsided, allowing Felix to relax his vigilance.

He sat beside Tanya, leaning against the cave wall, closing his eyes to pretend to nap, but his subconscious remained alert.

Even knowing Tanya’s arrival on the island was largely orchestrated by Declan Pierce, there were other forces on the island, along with venomous creatures; plus, he had someone to protect, so Felix couldn’t afford to completely let down his guard.

Thus, when Tanya began to talk in her sleep, Felix immediately opened his eyes to look over.

Tanya hadn’t awakened, just whispered softly, her lips moving slightly.

Felix leaned in to listen, finally hearing clearly that she was calling out a name.

Declan Pierce’s name.

"Declan Pierce..." she murmured softly, "may you live a long life..."

Felix stared at Tanya’s sleeping face for a long time, before he exhaled gently, letting out a silent self-mocking laugh.

"Sleeping so ignorantly in front of me, yet calling another man’s name... Tanya Sinclair, you’re truly the first."

Suddenly feeling a bit annoyed, Felix displayed a rare youthful impatience, curling his index and thumb, pretending to flick her forehead, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Instead, he gently brushed aside a strand of hair sticking to her face.

Just as Felix was about to withdraw his hand, Tanya unconsciously grasped it.

Felix was slightly startled,

Her hand was small, her palm burning with heat, gently holding him in a completely dependent manner.

Yet, the more she depended on him, the more uncomfortable Felix felt inside.

"Declan Pierce, don’t go..." she continue to murmur.

When the body is at its weakest, the soul reaches for the person it cherishes the most.

Felix looked at the hand gripping his, with mixed emotions, he tugged at the corner of his lips, trying to pull away, but couldn’t bring himself to do it.

He gazed upon the woman’s sleeping face and softly said, "Tanya Sinclair, you sure got some nerve. Using me as a substitute..."

Yet inexplicably, he craved the tenderness she gave him at the moment.

On the other side.

Hospital.

Declan Pierce had been in surgery for three hours now.

Janne Hayes stood outside anxiously waiting.

He didn’t know how long he’d been standing, feeling entirely numb.

The medical personnel kept coming and going.

Janne felt as though the entire world had come to a halt, enveloped in a vacuum state, unable to hear any sounds, his gaze fixed on the firmly closed door.

Finally, the door opened!
