Chapter 395: Chapter 395: Running a High Fever
Felix Kendall’s gaze fell upon Tanya Sinclair, somewhat complicated.
In his mind, the image of that man suddenly emerged, clearly with eyes as cold as ice, yet when looking at Tanya Sinclair, it seemed as if the whole spring had melted into his eyes...
In that instant, Felix Kendall felt a flash of insight.
Yes, given Declan Pierce’s level of protection over Tanya Sinclair, how could he possibly allow Tanya to come to a dangerous place like Pyralis Island to suffer?
Not to mention Tanya being taken away by Tom; if Tom dared to target Tanya, the entire Pyralis Island wouldn’t even need military intervention and would be handled by mysterious forces.
Unless...
"What’s wrong?" Tanya saw Felix Kendall thoughtfully staring at her and asked keenly, "Did you figure out the reason Tom brought me here?"
Felix Kendall shook his head slightly: "I can’t guess. But I think maybe it has something to do with the secret research you and Tom have been conducting."
He seemingly inadvertently changed the subject.
If bringing Tanya here is indeed Declan Pierce’s arrangement, he must have a compelling reason to do so. Regardless of the motive, Felix Kendall is willing to believe that Declan Pierce wouldn’t harm Tanya Sinclair.
After all, he loves Tanya Sinclair far more than he loves himself.
If he were to tell Tanya his speculation, given her intellect, she’d surely quickly figure out Declan Pierce’s motives...
Felix Kendall suddenly found it a bit amusing.
Logically, he and Declan Pierce should be considered rivals in love, but at this moment, regarding Tanya Sinclair, they have unexpectedly reached a bizarre mutual understanding.
"What research?" Tanya followed Felix Kendall’s words with a question.
Felix Kendall fiddled with the small fire in front of him, "Previously, Interpol arranged a team to rescue a scholar who had been imprisoned on Pyralis Island for nearly thirty years. The team’s leader is my friend. His name is David... His mission success rate is 100 percent. It’s said that the scholar is now in Tom’s hands. I was supposed to return with David, but he and the team members suddenly disappeared."
Felix Kendall looked at Tanya Sinclair, "To make an entire team of international operatives suddenly disappear... the ragtag terrorists on Pyralis Island couldn’t possibly achieve that!"
Indeed, Tom and his men are just reckless fugitives with weapons, and speaking of combat experience, even capturing someone like Felix Kendall would be challenging for them.
An entire team of international operatives being subdued or silently eliminated is simply impossible...
"Are you staying to find David and his team?" Tanya asked.
"That was my initial thought, but now I feel the need to be more direct." Felix Kendall slowly raised his eyes, looking at Tanya, the firelight making his face appear even more resolute and strong, "I need to find the scholar David was sent to rescue! Since David and his team went missing while searching for him, perhaps only he can tell me where David and his team are."
Tanya pursed her lips slightly.
Following Felix Kendall’s reasoning, the person who arranged for her to come to Pyralis Island might not be Tom, but rather that mysterious scholar. In terms of scientific research, she indeed can provide assistance... This also makes sense why Tom has treated her like a guest.
"Achoo—" Tanya suddenly sneezed.
Felix Kendall immediately looked up, "Cold?"
Before Tanya could respond, Felix Kendall had already taken off his jacket and tossed it to her.
"Don’t complain, conditions are limited here. Once the rain stops and it’s daylight, I’ll take you to the island’s only village. That place is a peace zone agreed upon after negotiations between various forces. You stay there first; rescue should arrive soon."
Tanya wanted to speak but sneezed again.
She used her hand to cover her face, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Felix Kendall lowered his eyes, curling his lips slightly.
In the cave, there was only the straw bed Tanya had just lain on, and no other place to sleep.
Felix Kendall must have been sleeping here all this time; she had taken his bed.
Tanya: "Felix Kendall, you should sleep here and catch up on some rest. I’ve been lying down for so long, I’m not tired now."
Felix Kendall certainly understood Tanya’s intentions, finding it somewhat amusing: "Ms. Sinclair, I’m not only a man but also a soldier. I couldn’t possibly accept a civilian giving up a bed for me. Moreover, am I so fragile in your eyes that I can’t rest without a bed?"
Tanya: "..."
She wasn’t as quick with words as Felix, and her physical discomfort made her dizzy and slow to react.
Felix stoked the fire a bit more, "Alright, you should sleep. The rain seems to have let up outside; I’m going out to check the situation."
After speaking, Felix moved towards the cave entrance.
"Felix Kendall." Tanya called out to him, her voice tinged with a nasal tone, offering a sincere reminder, "Be careful."
Felix paused briefly, seeing her worried eyes, before smirking: "Okay."
Tanya really was feeling quite unwell and only weakly lay down after Felix left.
Her hand pressed against her forehead, it was hot, indicating a fever.
Yet her body felt so cold.
She was a doctor herself, diagnosing her pulse, it was indeed a cold-induced fever, exacerbated by her weakened condition.
If in Aris, a few doses of medicine could take care of it, but in this environment, she could only endure.
Tanya coughed lightly twice, trying to adjust her breathing to relax her body.
She silently prayed that her illness wouldn’t worsen.
If she couldn’t assist, at the very least she shouldn’t become a burden to Felix...
Felix said he was going to have a look around, but he was actually out looking for herbs for Tanya.
Even if Tanya didn’t mention it, he could guess that she likely caught cold due to the conditions—after all, such a slender lady couldn’t possibly have a robust constitution.
On missions outside, unexpected situations are frequent; knowing some herbal remedies is a basic skill for Felix and his team, crucial for survival.
Felix returned with herbs, seeing Tanya curled up asleep on the straw.
As expected, she had developed a fever, her cheeks flushed, and beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
