Chapter 394: Chapter 394: They All Have to Make It Back Alive
Felix was grilling fish and didn’t even look back: "Did you injure your hand because of Yvonne?"
"Mm..."
Tanya didn’t deny it, walked over, and sat by the fire, feeling much warmer.
"You must think I’m really stupid now, right?" she asked quietly.
Felix laughed at her words, "The genius Tanya Sinclair from Northwood University, if you’re stupid, then there’s no such thing as a smart person. Besides, rescuing Yvonne is just your style."
He turned to look at Tanya, his smile fading a bit, and said seriously, "Kindness and stupidity are two different things. But those who do evil should pay the price. When you seek revenge, don’t let her off lightly."
His serious demeanor actually made Tanya feel a lot lighter.
It was as if they would definitely make it back alive.
The aroma of the fish slowly wafted out, and Felix handed a piece to Tanya.
Tanya took a bite, and it was very fresh and tender.
She glanced at Felix beside her. He had tanned quite a bit since she last saw him, making his features look even more rugged, adding a bit of a wild charm. His beard had also grown out, making him look like a completely different person from the dashing young master of The Kendall Family in Aris.
Right now, Felix looked just like a handsome local.
Felix continued to eat his fish, but it was as if he had eyes on the back of his head.
"Why are you staring at me?" he turned back slowly, his mouth lazily teasing, but his eyes were half earnest as he stared at her. "Did you suddenly find me more charming than Declan and decide to ditch him and fall in love with me?"
Tanya: "...You’re really funny."
She realized this man never took anything seriously.
After finishing the fish, they both had regained some strength.
Tanya saw her phone lying nearby. She picked it up to check, and sure enough, it was no longer working.
The watch was still ticking, but there was no signal here, and they couldn’t contact the military.
Tanya touched the necklace around her neck containing a tracker, praying it was still working.
But just sitting and waiting for death wasn’t a solution. If the tracker failed and the military didn’t come looking, she would have to find a way back.
Declan was still waiting for her...
"When I came, Crawford said there was a military informant here. If I could just..."
Felix cut her off before she could finish.
"That person is long dead. Half a month ago, Tom discovered his identity and fed him to the crocodiles." Felix’s jaw tightened slightly as he exhaled, "I wanted to save him at that time, but didn’t have the chance."
With just such a brief sentence, Tanya could feel his emotion.
She said softly, "Don’t blame yourself. This isn’t Caldonia, and it’s already very difficult for you to protect yourself here..."
Felix glanced at her, tugging his lips in an indiscernible way: "No need to comfort me, I’ve experienced things like this many times... watching teammates die in front of me and being powerless. Before every mission, we mentally prepare ourselves that the next sacrifice might be us."
The nature of living organisms is to pursue benefits and avoid harm, and humans are no exception.
And that’s the greatness of soldiers, knowing something can’t be done yet still going forward, knowing there will be sacrifices, yet still charging ahead relentlessly.
At this moment, Tanya truly felt a deep respect for Felix.
She whispered, "Did you know? Grandpa Kendall renamed Abby to Margaret. Abby loves her new name..."
Felix paused slightly, repeating, "Margaret Morgan, right? It sounds nice."
"Abby misses you every day. She holds the doll you gave her and prays for your safe return. So does Grandpa Kendall..." Tanya earnestly looked at Felix, "I don’t care what other missions you have to complete, the two of us must return safely! Because we both have family waiting for us."
Felix stared at Tanya for a moment and then silently smiled.
"Okay."
It started raining outside.
Felix had already prepared for this, using branches and dry grass to block the rain.
Felix sat by the fire, whittling a stick, while Tanya sat across from him, huddled into a small ball, staring absentmindedly at the firelight.
"Why did Tom single you out?" Felix was puzzled.
Tanya shook her head: "I only found out about this when Secretary-General Crawford and the others approached me. Three hundred and sixty-six hostages, exchanged for me. I don’t even know what use I am to him, and on the way here, Tom treated me very well."
Tanya herself found it hard to understand.
"One of his men dragged me to meet him and caused me to scrape my knee. He beat that guy half to death on the spot. He also arranged for a girl named Flora to take care of me and didn’t limit my freedom..."
Felix’s hands paused, frowning slightly.
Actually, before rescuing Tanya, he had observed for a long time in the shadows. He had dealt with Tom before, and given Tom’s character, it was unlikely that he could be coerced.
That little girl named Flora wouldn’t make Tom be so lenient.
If Tanya were really important to him, her belongings would have been searched when she fell into Tom’s hands. It’s unlikely she would still have a gun on her.
Given Tom’s suspicious and cautious nature, Tanya should have been locked in a cage and taken off the ship directly...
