Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Using Him to the Fullest
Vincent Hawthorne yelled angrily, his face frighteningly dark.
Yvonne Hawthorne had been doted on her entire life and had never seen Vincent so furious. She shivered in fear.
"Brother, why are you being so harsh to me? I’m just looking out for you..." Although she was trying to maintain her bravado, Yvonne’s voice weakened considerably, "Tanya Sinclair has already divorced you. Our whole family witnessed how heartless she was during the divorce..."
"Shut up!" Vincent yelled angrily, "If you and mom hadn’t gone too far, would we have ended up divorced?"
"Brother!" Yvonne protested, crossing her arms, and rolled her eyes at Vincent, "Mom and I did it for your sake! Besides, didn’t you know about our plan from the start? You just had to play the gentleman in front of Tanya; I am your own sister..."
"I said shut up!" Vincent was so enraged he almost lost control, raising his hand, nearly striking her.
He forcefully stopped at the last moment.
Yvonne was incredulous: "Brother, are you going to hit me? Just for Tanya Sinclair? When I was on Pyralis Island, I endured so much hardship, and you didn’t even care or pity me!"
She pouted resentfully, "And Felix Kendall, he’s protecting Tanya Sinclair! When I was trapped in a cage being tortured, he didn’t come out, but as soon as Tanya was in danger, he immediately rushed out... Why was that? I almost died on Pyralis Island for him. What has Tanya ever done for him?"
Yvonne complained, utterly ignoring how Vincent’s gaze became icy and clear.
He suddenly spoke, "So, was it because you were jealous of Tanya Sinclair that you made her fall?"
"She deserved it..." Yvonne blurted out and quickly covered her mouth.
She looked at Vincent, a bit terrified inside.
"Brother, I didn’t harm her. It was an accident..." Yvonne hurriedly defended herself.
Vincent, however, ignored her, clearly not believing a word she said.
"Yvonne Hawthorne, you better pray that Tanya Sinclair returns safely."
Along the way, no matter how much Yvonne cried, Vincent didn’t spare her a glance; he was troubled, his mind occupied with concerns about Tanya’s situation on Pyralis Island.
With Felix Kendall present, Tanya shouldn’t be in too much danger. Plus, the military’s efforts in rescuing her might soon bring good news...
Vincent comforted himself inwardly, but his frown only deepened.
The car drove all the way to The Hawthorne Estate, and Vincent suddenly saw a familiar silhouette at the gate, resembling... no, almost identical to Tanya Sinclair!
Even Yvonne in the passenger seat turned pale, screaming, "Ah... ghost!"
Seeing a ghost in broad daylight?
How could Tanya Sinclair instantly appear here!
Could it be that she’s come to haunt me?!
Yvonne clutched Vincent’s clothes in fear, shakily asking, "Brother, did you see that?"
Vincent impatiently shook her off, "It’s not a ghost, it’s Leah Thorne."
Upon hearing the noise, Leah already turned around, and Yvonne saw her face clearly. She somewhat resembled Tanya Sinclair, but they were indeed two different people.
The resemblance was uncanny.
Yvonne patted her chest soothingly, regaining her composure.
Leah walked up to the car, her face adorned with a gentle and sweet smile.
"Mr. Hawthorne!"
Vincent lowered the car window, "How did you find this place?"
Leah said, "Mr. Hawthorne, have you forgotten? You introduced me to a tutoring job nearby. I thought I’d try my luck and see if I could bump into you, and I actually did!"
Yvonne sat in the passenger seat, glanced between Leah and Vincent, and instantly understood their relationship.
She rolled her eyes dramatically, looking at Leah with arrogance and disdain.
Leah naturally noticed but continued to maintain her poised smile, "This must be Ms. Hawthorne? Hello, nice to meet you. I’m Leah Thorne."
Yvonne cast a sarcastic glance at her, opened the car door, and reminded Vincent as she got out.
"Brother, I know you’re bored now. But could you have higher standards in picking women? Don’t let any random stray climb into your bed..."
"Yvonne!" Vincent frowned slightly.
Yvonne had already opened the car door and was heading home, not giving Leah a single glance.
"I apologize." Vincent said to Leah, "My sister’s spoiled by the family. She wasn’t targeting you, it’s just..."
Vincent hesitated.
Looking at Leah’s face, strikingly similar to Tanya Sinclair’s, suddenly he didn’t want to continue, turning the conversation to a more polite, dismissive tone, "She was just brought back from abroad, having experienced some scares. I hope you can understand."
"It’s alright." Leah smiled empathetically, "Mr. Hawthorne, you’re my benefactor, I won’t take it to heart. If Ms. Hawthorne is shocked, I actually know a remedy—it’s quite effective for calming and soothing nerves. If you don’t mind, I can prepare it and bring it over."
Vincent was somewhat surprised, "You know traditional medicine?"
"I wouldn’t say I know it." Leah humbly responded, "I just like it a lot. There’s a very skilled old doctor in our village. I used to often help him, spent my winter and summer breaks being his little assistant, picking up a few things along the way."
This was, of course, a lie.
But Leah managed to see a flicker of admiration on Vincent’s face.
Not the fondness for a pet, but admiration for a woman.
