Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Is This Ivy Sherwood Related to ’Her’?
Quentin Blackwood soon left the clothing store with Ivy Sherwood. Ivy had thought Quentin was taking her to the banquet right away, but to her surprise, he took her to a restaurant instead.
"Hm? Aren’t we going?"
"No rush. Let’s get a bite to eat first." At that kind of banquet, there probably wouldn’t be much chance to eat dinner.
Ivy ate a little something with Quentin and then asked, "Will Caleb Blackwood be there today? Have his injuries healed?"
She had expected Caleb Blackwood to cause trouble for her. After all, a little digging would reveal she was the one responsible. But after so many days, there hadn’t been a single peep from him.
"I don’t know, but knowing his personality, he’ll definitely go."
Caleb Blackwood wouldn’t pass up such a good opportunity to network with other big shots.
Quentin looked at Ivy nibbling on her food. "What, are you scared?"
"There’s nothing to be scared of. It’s not like he’s some kind of monster." Ivy wasn’t actually afraid of Caleb Blackwood; she just didn’t like him as a person.
It wasn’t until evening that Quentin finally took Ivy to the event.
Tonight’s banquet was being held on a massive cruise ship. The entire dock had been booked for the event, and alongside it were parked countless luxury cars—each one seemingly more extravagant than the last.
By the time Ivy and Quentin arrived, most of the guests had already boarded the cruise ship. Given Quentin’s status, it didn’t matter if he was a little late.
Lustre was surrounded by the sea, so Ivy had been on cruise ships often since she was a child. But she had never seen one this luxurious before.
She heard that the host of the birthday banquet had bought the cruise ship himself, which just went to show how wealthy he was.
As they boarded the ship, Quentin offered his arm, and Ivy naturally linked hers with his.
Greeting guests at the entrance to the cruise ship was the host, a man surnamed Summers named Jason Summers. He was a middle-aged man of about the same age as Timothy Sherwood and Caleb Blackwood. He was already fifty, but he looked like a man in his forties and was quite charming.
Today was his fiftieth birthday, which was why the event was especially grand.
Jason Summers was a very low-key person, the type to quietly make a fortune abroad. He also loved doing charity work and was a well-known philanthropist.
He often had a smile on his face, which made him seem very kind and approachable.
However, Ivy no longer trusted this kind of superficial kindness. Wasn’t Caleb Blackwood a perfect example?
"Mr. Summers, long time no see," Quentin said in greeting as someone behind him presented a gift.
"Quentin, it really has been a while. I didn’t expect you to be in Lustre too," Jason Summers said, exchanging pleasantries with Quentin.
They had only met a few times abroad, but they had both long heard of each other’s names.
This was especially true for Quentin’s name. Many people had never met him in person, but everyone knew his famous name—it was synonymous with the king of business.
"And this is...?" Jason Summers looked at the woman beside Quentin, and as his eyes met hers, he froze for a moment.
The woman wasn’t conventionally beautiful, but she had a powerful presence. And she gave him a very familiar feeling.
Especially her eyes. They were just like... hers.
"This is my date," Quentin introduced.
"President Blackwood, you actually brought a date this time?" Even Jason Summers was shocked.
After all, while Quentin didn’t attend a great many banquets, he had never once brought a date.
He sized up the woman. Her figure was indeed good, but not exceptional. Besides, many of the women present today were prettier than Ivy Sherwood.
Take Quentin’s nephew, for example—Silas Blackwood, or whatever his name was. The date he brought was very beautiful.
Ivy said, "Hello, Mr. Summers. My name is Ivy Sherwood."
"Ivy Sherwood. A fine name," Jason Summers said with a smile, studying Ivy’s face, trying to read something from it.
"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Summers." Out in public, Ivy was always poised and gracious.
"Mr. Summers, we’ll let you get back to it. We’re going to head inside."
"Of course, of course."
Quentin led Ivy away, but Jason Summers stared after her, lost in thought.
Jason Summers beckoned someone over. His expression gradually turned cold, and his eyes, in particular, became incredibly sharp.
"Go investigate this Ivy Sherwood. I want to know everything about her, including her parents."
"Yes, sir!" The person immediately left to carry out the investigation.
An image of a face surfaced in Jason Summers’s mind. Those eyes... he hadn’t seen them in almost twenty-five years, yet the memory was still as fresh as ever.
’Could this Ivy Sherwood be connected to her?’
He had been searching for her all these years, and the last clue he had found was that she had come to Lustre.
...
Everyone here today was a prominent figure, and Quentin Blackwood’s arrival caused a crowd to instantly surround him, making it impossible for him to break away.
There weren’t many banquets that Quentin would attend, so many people wanted to take this opportunity to exchange a few words with him.
A big reason Quentin disliked coming to these kinds of events was this exact sort of phony socializing, which he detested.
Even if he put on a cold face and kept everyone at arm’s length, there would always be some shameless, oblivious people who insisted on coming over to chat.
Standing with Quentin, Ivy did indeed meet quite a few people.
When Silas Blackwood heard that Quentin had also arrived—and with a date, no less—he was eager to see just who this woman was.
Silas had also brought a date today, and that date was none other than Cheryl Yates.
Ever since those photos were taken, Cheryl had been afraid to show her face for a long time. But now, after a period of recovery, her mental state had improved significantly.
At Silas’s side, the two of them certainly looked like a perfect couple.
"Quentin is over there. I’m going to go take a look," Silas said.
’I’m going to find out just who Quentin’s date is!’
Cheryl said, "I’ll go with you."
From a distance, Silas spotted Quentin’s figure, as well as the woman by his side.
He was standing behind Quentin, so he couldn’t see the woman’s face.
’But from the back, she looks a bit like that model. That figure... it’s absolutely gorgeous. If only I could get my hands around that slender waist.’
’It must be her. Isn’t she one of Quentin’s bedwarmers?’
Silas couldn’t tear his eyes away. After staring for a few seconds, he took out his phone, snapped a picture, and without a second thought, sent it to Ivy Sherwood.
"Quentin went to a banquet with another woman. I told you, he doesn’t like you at all. He’s just playing with you. You’re not his only woman. You mean nothing to him."
The phone in Ivy’s hand buzzed. She looked down and saw that someone had sent her a message.
Looking closer at the content, she thought, ’This has to be Silas Blackwood, right?’
She had no idea where Silas got so many phone numbers. She had already blocked countless ones, but he always managed to text her from a new one.
After reading the message, Ivy was speechless for a moment. She could only think that Silas Blackwood had to be sick in the head.
Meanwhile, Silas saw the woman’s movement. ’Wait, why did she pick up her phone right after I sent that message to Ivy?’
’It must be a coincidence. There’s no way Ivy could be here.’
’A back that beautiful definitely doesn’t belong to Ivy.’
Just then, Silas saw the woman say something to the person in front of her, clink glasses, and down her drink in one go. Then she turned to the side to place her empty glass on a passing waiter’s tray, and it was then that Silas saw her profile.
The sight of that face made Silas’s body tremble. His pupils dilated, filled with disbelief.
’How could it be...?’
