Chapter 238: Chapter 238: So Beautiful He Wants to Hide Her Away
"No need," Quentin Blackwood said. "Go get the dress."
The manager could only comply. It was a long, pale blue gown. In all his years in the fashion industry, he had never seen anyone who could pull it off.
If she ended up making a fool of herself, she couldn’t blame him for not warning her.
There was a fitting room nearby. Ivy Sherwood went inside and saw the dress hanging beside a pair of high heels.
Outside, Quentin Blackwood casually flipped through a magazine while he waited.
Simply by sitting there, without a word or a movement, he exuded an air of lavish nobility.
The manager waited on him attentively, even having a few backup evening gowns prepared, terrified that this VIP would fly into a rage if he wasn’t satisfied.
"President Blackwood, these other gowns are actually quite nice as well. Perhaps you’d like to take a look..."
Just then, Ivy Sherwood emerged, having changed into the dress.
Quentin Blackwood and the manager looked up at the same time. Upon seeing her, Quentin’s eyes darkened, while the manager gasped, his gaze fixed on Ivy.
The pale blue dress clung to her voluptuous curves. Ivy Sherwood’s figure was absolutely flawless. Her exquisite physique filled out the gown perfectly, and the gracefully curved, strapless design made her slender waist look as if it could be encircled by a single hand.
The long skirt was detailed with fine pleats that rippled gently with every step, making her look like a mermaid dancing in the blue sea, radiating a silent allure under the bright white moonlight.
The manager blinked. At first, he’d thought this woman was ordinary and could never do the dress justice. But now, he had to take it all back.
Her face hadn’t changed, but she had let her hair down, tucking a few strands behind her ear to reveal a delicate earring. The red tassels of the earring had a classic beauty, dangling beside her fair, swan-like neck. Her skin was as pure as ice and snow, her eyes shimmered like the ocean, and with no other jewelry, her beauty was entirely natural.
’She’s absolutely gorgeous! Looking at her face now, she seems so much prettier, especially her eyes.’
"So... how is it?" Ivy Sherwood walked over. Seeing Quentin Blackwood’s silence, she felt a little unsure.
"It’s very—" Quentin had just begun to speak when the manager beside him jumped in with a flurry of praise.
"It’s simply stunning, Miss! This dress is practically tailor-made for you. I was blind before; please don’t hold it against me, Miss."
As the manager spoke, he put his hands behind his back and waved at his staff, signaling for them to quickly take away the backup gowns.
As Ivy Sherwood approached, the earrings swayed, and it felt as if they were swaying in Quentin Blackwood’s heart.
Quentin’s eyes were deep and dark, his gaze locked onto Ivy, the veins on the back of his hands standing out.
’If the setting weren’t so inappropriate, he would have dragged Ivy Sherwood into a restroom and had his way with her.’
’She’s even more beautiful than he’d imagined. Utterly stunning.’
"So? Nothing seems out of place, right?" Ivy walked up to Quentin. She felt the dress was a good fit.
Quentin’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his throat tight. "No."
Quentin had a designer alter the dress to Ivy’s measurements, which he knew like the back of his hand.
"That’s good." After all, she was appearing as Quentin Blackwood’s date and was afraid of embarrassing him.
"Let’s go." Quentin stood up.
"Wait, I think there’s a powder room over there. I’m going to touch up my makeup." She had noticed it when she came out from changing.
"We also have professional makeup artists here. I can call them over to do your makeup for you, Miss," the manager offered.
"No, thanks. I can do it myself."
Ivy returned to the powder room and used makeup remover to wipe her face clean. The person in the mirror quickly returned to her original appearance.
’Telling Quentin she’d go out looking like this was just a joke, a way to test if he was the type to judge by appearances.’
’With the Blackwood Family involved, Ivy felt it was better not to appear as Quentin’s date. Besides, she didn’t know who else would be at the banquet, and it could lead to more trouble.’
Ivy applied some light makeup, using a faint blue eyeshadow that perfectly matched her gown. Now, she looked even more like a mermaid.
Doing her makeup naturally took longer than changing clothes. Quentin waited outside patiently. After a while, Ivy finally emerged.
Seeing Ivy again, the manager and Quentin once more had completely different expressions.
The manager’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. ’A touch-up? This was a total transformation!’
Ivy in the dress was beautiful before, but it was nothing compared to now. Her face now was breathtaking. In her presence, all other beautiful things seemed to pale in comparison.
Ivy’s makeup wasn’t heavy, but it made her look pure and natural, exuding an ethereal aura that made her seem untouchable. A second glance felt like blasphemy against a goddess.
When Quentin saw this version of Ivy, his pupils contracted. Deep in his eyes, there was nothing but stunned admiration.
Quentin had never considered himself a possessive person. He’d never felt that something was his private property, forbidden for others to touch.
But now, he suddenly didn’t want to take Ivy to the banquet anymore. He didn’t want anyone else to see her like this.
’He wanted to hide her away, to keep this version of her for his eyes only.’
"What’s wrong? Is it bad?" Ivy looked at Quentin’s suddenly cold expression, thinking he didn’t like how she looked.
’If Quentin didn’t want her to go out with this face, she’d just change her makeup back.’
"It’s bad."
"Then I’ll go change it back?"
"Mmm. Make it uglier."
Ivy: "..."
’How much uglier? So Quentin meant that she looked beautiful right now?’
Ivy smiled to herself, then returned to the powder room and did her makeup back to her usual style.
Quentin followed her into the powder room. Seeing her appearance, it seemed he still wasn’t satisfied. He personally took a dark-colored powder puff and dabbed it on her face—concentrating on one spot. Ivy felt like her face was turning as black as the bottom of a wok.
’She suddenly remembered the first time her disguise had slipped in front of Quentin. Had he been this rough with her then, too?’
"Wait, do you have a grudge against me or something? Can I even be seen in public like this?" Ivy stared at her very dark face in the mirror.
Quentin said, "I think it looks just fine."
’Ivy didn’t think it was fine at all. He wasn’t the one who would be embarrassed. She was attending as his date. If she was too ugly, wouldn’t that embarrass him, too?’
Ivy shooed the meddling Quentin out and redid her makeup again.
It was still similar to her usual look, but the foundation wasn’t as dark. It just looked like her everyday self with more refined makeup.
She wasn’t particularly ugly, nor would she steal anyone’s thunder.
Looking at Ivy’s face now, Quentin was very satisfied.
