Chapter 223: Chapter 223: I Am Ivy Sherwood’s Fiancé! Quentin Blackwood: Not Anymore
"Are you being sarcastic, Uncle? My taste isn’t so bad that I’d be interested in just anything."
"Ivy Sherwood!" Silas Blackwood snarled her name. ’What does Ivy mean by that?’
’Am I just some ’thing’ in her eyes?’
Quentin Blackwood’s expression, however, softened slightly. He looked at Silas Blackwood. "You like staying in a general ward?"
"I..."
"Then I’ll have someone transfer you here."
Silas Blackwood thought it over. He despised his surroundings; this general ward was small and shabby, it didn’t even have a private bathroom, and several people were crammed into one room. He looked down on it.
But Ivy Sherwood was here. Here, he could be closer to her. And if he needed to go to the restroom, he could even ask Ivy to help him.
The thought of Ivy taking him to the restroom, unbuttoning his pants for him, and then... helping him...
"Okay!" Silas Blackwood agreed at once. "I’ll stay here."
Quentin Blackwood turned to Ivy, who quickly said, "I’m already fine. I just have some scrapes; I don’t even need to be in the hospital."
Ivy Sherwood nimbly hopped out of the hospital bed. "Silas Blackwood, since you like it here, it’s all yours."
Silas Blackwood was stunned. "Ivy, you!"
"Since you’re all better, can you stay and take care of me?" Silas Blackwood switched tactics.
Ivy Sherwood looked at him seriously, her eyes shining like jewels. Silas Blackwood suddenly felt that her eyes looked very familiar.
But he couldn’t recall where he might have seen them. He had seen too many women. The faces of others surfaced in his mind—women he once found beautiful now seemed utterly plain.
Just as Silas Blackwood was trying to remember, Ivy spoke. "Silas Blackwood, if you really did get your brain knocked loose in the accident, you should get it checked out right away. You’re already a moron; any stupider and you’ll be a complete idiot."
Silas Blackwood: "..."
’What does she mean by that? Is she just putting on an act because Quentin is here?’
"If you don’t like me, then why did you save me?"
"I didn’t save you. Don’t be so full of yourself." Ivy got right off the bed. "I’m leaving, Silas Blackwood. Don’t show your face to me again. I don’t want to see you."
As for Silas Blackwood’s confession, Ivy didn’t take it to heart at all.
A man like Silas Blackwood was the type to fall for someone new every other day. Before this, wasn’t he head over heels for Anna Nash?
Ivy left the hospital room directly, as if fleeing from something.
"Ivy! Ivy!" Silas Blackwood watched her back, trying to wheel himself after her, but it was as if something was holding him back.
Silas Blackwood turned his head and saw Quentin Blackwood’s hand on his wheelchair. "Uncle, why are you..."
Quentin Blackwood’s grip was immensely strong; he controlled the wheelchair with just one hand.
"Your legs are injured, yet you still can’t sit still?" His tone carried a clear warning.
"I’m not being restless. I just discovered that I think I like Ivy. I realized she’s not like other women."
Other women all wanted to get close to him, desperate to be with him. But Ivy acted as if she despised him. If this was her strategy of playing hard to get, then she had succeeded.
He now felt that although Ivy was ugly, she had an indescribable charm. It was as if he liked her for reasons that had nothing to do with her face.
The feeling was so strange; Silas Blackwood had never felt anything like it.
He didn’t see how dark the man’s face behind him had become.
"Uncle, were you with Ivy yesterday?" Silas Blackwood asked, thinking of the day before.
Quentin Blackwood’s eyes narrowed, his pupils growing deep and terrifying, chilling one to the bone.
His voice was bone-chillingly cold. "You are not qualified to question my affairs."
"Uncle, I’m Ivy’s fiancé."
"Not anymore."
Silas Blackwood’s heart clenched. ’What did his uncle mean by that?’
’Uncle gave Ivy the shares, which she then used to call off the engagement. Does that mean... this was Uncle’s idea all along? Did Uncle want Ivy to break off the engagement?’
"Uncle, what you’re saying..."
Mrs. Blackwood and Sylvia Blackwood, who had been quietly observing from outside, entered and interrupted Silas. "Quentin, you came to see Silas. He’s fine."
Although Mrs. Blackwood didn’t like this illegitimate son either, she knew Quentin wouldn’t try to snatch the Blackwood family’s assets and might even help the family. Thus, she was always polite to his face.
However, Quentin Blackwood didn’t spare her a glance. "Since he’s fine, I’ll be leaving. Doesn’t he like this hospital room? I’ll have him transferred over. Just consider it a wish granted to the younger generation by me, his uncle."
"I don’t— Uncle, Quentin! I was just kidding!" Silas Blackwood yelled from behind. He had only been willing to come here because of Ivy; now that she was gone, what was the point of him being here?
However, Quentin left without a backward glance, as if he hadn’t heard a word.
"Mom, I can’t call off the engagement with Ivy. Go find Dad, please? Bring Ivy back! I won’t call it off, I won’t!"
"Silas, what are you talking about? Don’t you dislike that Ivy Sherwood? The engagement is off, so it’s off. I wouldn’t want Ivy as my daughter-in-law anyway. Didn’t you hear what she said just now? A woman like her absolutely cannot be allowed to enter the Blackwood family!"
...
「Downstairs」
Ivy Sherwood was settling her bill.
Her injuries weren’t serious; she was largely unharmed.
She was about to call a car to go home when she saw a familiar vehicle had already stopped in front of her.
"Get in," the man in the back seat said.
Ivy nimbly got in. "You’re down here already, Uncle? Not going to spend a little more time with your nephew?"
Ivy still couldn’t shake the habit of calling him that, especially after Quentin had told her not to call him President Blackwood last time.
"Do you want me to spend more time with him?"
Ivy: "..."
’What did that have to do with her? Whether Quentin saw Silas Blackwood or not was of no importance to her.’
Besides, why did she get the feeling Quentin was a little angry?
Ivy smiled. "So, Uncle didn’t actually come to see Silas Blackwood. Could it be... you came to see me?"
"You’re overthinking it. He’s my nephew; as his elder, it’s only right that I come see him," Quentin said indifferently, as if his trip to the hospital had nothing to do with Ivy.
"Is that so? Then why am I the one in your car right now, and not Silas Blackwood?"
Quentin said, "He can’t be discharged yet. Giving you a ride is just on the way."
"I see," Ivy said, nodding as she leaned back against the seat.
After a short while, the man beside her spoke, his voice ominous. "You were willing to risk your life to save Silas Blackwood?"
Ivy: "..."
"You believe him? Don’t listen to his nonsense. It was just a misunderstanding. I seriously think your nephew has brain damage from the accident. You should really take him to get checked out when you have a chance."
"It has nothing to do with me," Quentin said flatly.
Whether Silas Blackwood lived or died was no concern of his. He didn’t care.
Ivy turned her head to look at him. ’If he cared so little for Silas Blackwood, then why did he even come to the hospital?’
