Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Car Accident

’The beautiful woman Silas mentioned, the one with his uncle... that couldn’t be me, could it?’

Ivy Sherwood walked even faster, but Silas Blackwood was still keeping up behind her.

"You’d better believe it, Ivy Sherwood. I’m your best choice. In every way, I’m more than good enough for you. You know you’re not in my league. I’m giving you a chance here."

"Silas Blackwood! If you’re sick, see a doctor. If you’ve got a screw loose, get it checked. Don’t run out of the hospital without taking your meds!" Ivy Sherwood was utterly fed up.

"And another thing—I’m the one who thinks you’re not good enough for me. I have no feelings for you. You’re the one who needs to take a good, long look in the mirror."

"I have never, ever liked you. So please, stop being so conceited. This engagement was a mistake from the very beginning, and I’m just correcting that mistake."

"And lastly, I wish you and Anna Nash a long and happy life together."

At first, Silas Blackwood was getting angry listening to her, but when he heard her last sentence, he started to laugh.

"Ivy Sherwood, you say you don’t care, but you’re just jealous, aren’t you?"

Ivy Sherwood: "?"

’Silas Blackwood really was delusional. What part of that sounded like she was jealous?’

Silas Blackwood said, "You do care about me and Anna Nash, don’t you? Everything you just said was in anger. You’re mad I got Anna Nash pregnant, so you’re trying to get back at me on purpose, right?"

"To be honest, I didn’t even know about the pregnancy. I always take precautions. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely make her get rid of the baby. I’ll cut off all contact with her. Ivy, about our engagement... won’t you reconsider?"

Ivy Sherwood stopped in her tracks, a mocking glint in her eyes. "Silas Blackwood, didn’t you always look down on me? Now you can’t seem to leave me alone. What’s the deal? Don’t tell me you’ve actually fallen for me?"

"Impossible!" Silas Blackwood didn’t know what was wrong with him either. There was absolutely no way he could like Ivy Sherwood.

Yet he couldn’t explain why he was so focused on Ivy Sherwood, or why this whole situation bothered him so much.

"If it’s impossible, then stay away from me. Don’t show your face in front of me again. I don’t want to see you!" With that, Ivy Sherwood started walking again.

There was a crosswalk ahead. When the light turned green, Ivy Sherwood crossed the street, and Silas Blackwood followed.

"Ivy Sherwood, make yourself clear!"

"I’ve been perfectly clear."

Silas Blackwood reached out to grab Ivy Sherwood. But just then, a car that should have been stopped for the red light suddenly gunned its engine and hurtled toward them, completely ignoring the ’walk’ signal.

The car was moving incredibly fast. For a second, Ivy Sherwood couldn’t tell who it was aiming for.

As the car barreled toward them, Ivy Sherwood didn’t even have time to think. She yanked Silas Blackwood back on pure instinct; it was a complete reflex.

Even though Ivy Sherwood had pulled Silas Blackwood, the car still clipped him. The momentum threw him to the ground, sending Ivy tumbling down with him.

Ivy Sherwood felt a sharp, stinging pain from a scrape on her leg.

The car had already sped off. Fighting through the pain, Ivy Sherwood scrambled up and immediately pulled out her phone to call for the police and an ambulance.

Silas Blackwood, beside her, seemed to be in worse shape. He was lying motionless on the ground.

"Silas? Silas!" He was unconscious.

Everything happened so suddenly. Ivy Sherwood didn’t make it to the dinner, telling Edie to take the others and have a good meal. She said that if they wanted to go for karaoke or do something else afterward, they should go ahead—it would be on her.

Ivy Sherwood rode in the ambulance to the hospital, where she had a full check-up and got her wounds treated.

Silas Blackwood’s condition was more serious. Still unconscious, he was rushed to the emergency room.

The police questioned Ivy Sherwood about what happened and then reviewed the security footage. The driver appeared to have been drunk, making it a case of drunk driving. It didn’t seem intentional, but they said they would investigate further.

’Still, Ivy had a gut feeling that the driver had done it on purpose.’

’At that speed, a direct hit would have been instantly fatal. If she hadn’t pulled Silas Blackwood back, he wouldn’t be in the ER right now—he’d be dead.’

’She didn’t believe it was a coincidence. At a time like this... could Caleb Blackwood have arranged it?’

’But then again, Ivy felt that was unlikely. Even if Caleb Blackwood hated her, he wouldn’t go so far as to kill his own son.’

’The car’s trajectory seemed aimed at Silas, though. Had he offended someone?’

Ivy Sherwood’s test results came back; she was mostly fine. Silas Blackwood’s injuries weren’t severe either, and he was expected to wake up soon.

Ivy Sherwood watched the security footage over and over, trying to find a clue.

Before long, members of the Blackwood family arrived—it was Mrs. Blackwood and Sylvia Blackwood.

The moment Mrs. Blackwood arrived, she started screaming at Ivy Sherwood, even lunging as if to attack her. "It’s you, you damn jinx! Yesterday you bullied our Sylvia, and now you’ve done this to Silas!"

"Did you arrange this accident? You already broke off the engagement, so why won’t you leave our Silas alone? I’m telling you, if anything happens to Silas, this won’t be over!" Mrs. Blackwood’s eyes were red with fury.

The way she glared at Ivy Sherwood, it was as if she wanted to tear her limb from limb.

"Mrs. Blackwood, this is a hospital. Please keep your voice down so you don’t disturb the other patients," Ivy Sherwood reminded her coolly.

She was in a regular hospital room, not a VIP suite like Silas Blackwood.

There were other patients in the room besides Ivy, and Mrs. Blackwood’s shouting was completely disturbing them.

"What, you have the guts to do it but not to let people talk about it? You only broke off the engagement with our Silas because you found some other man! You’re a slut! How has the Blackwood family ever wronged you? Weren’t Caleb and I good enough to you? Why weren’t you the one killed by that car? Why did it have to be my Silas who got hurt?"

"Ivy Sherwood, if a single hair on Silas’s head is harmed, I’ll have your life!" Mrs. Blackwood’s curses were incredibly vile.

’This entire family was insane,’ Ivy Sherwood knew.

’She wanted nothing to do with them, yet they insisted on dragging her into their drama.’

"You hate me that much, Mrs. Blackwood? The police are still right outside. I’m sure they can hear you loud and clear. If I have some kind of ’accident’ in the future, they’ll know exactly who arranged it. It’s a good thing, really. Saves them the trouble of an investigation."

"You!" Mrs. Blackwood wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, a trait both Sylvia and Silas Blackwood had clearly inherited from her.

Ivy Sherwood’s gaze was sharp and piercing, and she didn’t back down an inch. "In case you haven’t noticed, we live in an age of equality now, not the feudal era. Do you really think having money makes you better than everyone else?"

"You... you... you..." Mrs. Blackwood was practically apoplectic. How dare Ivy Sherwood act so righteous?

"You little bitch! Even if you didn’t do this, it’s still your fault for being a jinx! You’re a curse on our Silas! You’re the one who ruined his reputation!"

Ivy Sherwood laughed. "Silas Blackwood’s reputation? Does he really need my help to ruin it? He’s a rotten egg all on his own, stinking up every place he goes."
