Chapter 220: Chapter 220: It’s None of Your Business Who I’m With
"Brother, don’t you even care about me? Ivy Sherwood hit me! She even pushed me and made me kneel on the ground," Sylvia said, sounding aggrieved.
However, Silas Blackwood didn’t want to hear about that. All he wanted to know was, "My poor Sylvia, you’ve suffered. Sylvia, tell me, who was the man with Ivy Sherwood?"
He had to know why Ivy had changed so drastically and why she suddenly wanted to break off their engagement.
He thought Ivy must have liked him before and was just feeling jealous. Now, it was highly likely she’d fallen for someone else.
"It was Uncle," Sylvia said.
"Uncle?" Silas was stunned for a moment. "Ivy and Uncle are together?"
’Aren’t Uncle and Ivy spending a little too much time together?’
The thought had crossed Silas’s mind before, but he’d always dismissed it for one reason or another. But now, Ivy was with Quentin Blackwood again...
"Are you sure you didn’t see wrong?" Silas asked.
The video only showed Sylvia and Ivy, not the person in the car. Silas thought Sylvia might have been mistaken.
"How could I be mistaken? The window was rolled all the way down. Brother, why are you asking about this?"
"It’s nothing." Silas hung up the phone abruptly.
’He’s being so weird,’ Sylvia thought. ’Why is he so concerned about Ivy’s business? Is he planning to get revenge for me?’
After hanging up, Silas still couldn’t figure it out. When had Ivy gotten so close to his uncle?
’What exactly is their relationship?’
「...」
Ivy Sherwood was at the wheel, driving Quentin Blackwood away.
Ivy glanced at the man in the passenger seat via the rearview mirror. "Quentin Blackwood, you weren’t drunk at all, were you?"
The look he’d given Sylvia just now was quite sharp. He didn’t look like someone who’d had too much to drink.
"You’re right." Quentin knew he couldn’t hide it.
"Why?" She didn’t understand why Quentin would pretend.
"No reason. I was just tired and didn’t want to drink anymore."
Ivy nodded. That made sense. After all, Julian Grant was a ferocious drinker, and it was indeed hard to keep up with him.
"So, should I take you back to Norhaven?"
"Yes." Quentin rubbed the bridge of his nose, looking genuinely uncomfortable.
Ivy drove him back to Norhaven and then disappeared. Quentin thought she had left, but a few moments later, she returned with a bowl of sobering-up soup. She told him to drink it, or he’d have a headache tomorrow.
Quentin took the bowl and drank it all without a word.
Seeing how uncomfortable Quentin looked, Ivy asked, "Do you feel like you’re going to throw up?"
Quentin shook his head. Ivy asked again, "Then do you want to get some rest?"
Quentin didn’t say anything, just raised his eyes to look at her.
His gaze was usually cold and sharp. This time, however, his eyes were slightly downcast, his long lashes veiling most of his thoughts. His narrow eyes were filled with an unreadable depth.
Ivy’s heart jolted under his gaze. It felt as if a faint electric current had passed through her, leaving a tingling numbness.
She quickly averted her eyes, feeling as if the lights had suddenly become dazzling.
"You should rest. I won’t leave. I’ll go after you’ve fallen asleep."
Quentin had taken care of her last time, so it was only right for her to do the same for him.
"Okay." Quentin nodded, not refusing her offer.
Quentin took a quick shower and then lay down on the bed.
Ivy sat beside him. She had even grabbed a couple of books and was reading them intently.
Perhaps because she hadn’t slept well the previous night after all the commotion, she was a little tired. Ivy rested her head on the edge of the bed and fell asleep just like that.
But the man on the bed opened his eyes and looked at the person slumped over beside him.
A moment later, the person on the bed sat up.
Another moment later, there were two people on the bed.
Quentin had a sleep disorder, so it was never easy for him to fall asleep. He had been awake the whole time.
He wasn’t sure if it was because of the milk she drank tonight, but he could smell a faint scent of milk on Ivy.
Holding her, it felt like his mind had emptied.
Soon after, Quentin also fell asleep.
Ivy slept soundly until the next day. When she woke up, she realized something was wrong.
Although she was the only one in the bed, when had she climbed into it?
She remembered saying yesterday that she would leave after Quentin fell asleep, but she ended up falling asleep herself. ’He must have carried me onto the bed.’
Ivy instinctively glanced at the bathroom, but this time, Quentin didn’t emerge from it.
A set of clean clothes in her size was placed beside the bed. Ivy washed up and went to the main hall, only to find that Quentin seemed to be gone.
The housekeeper said, "President Blackwood has already left for the company."
It was Monday, time for work.
Ivy soon left Norhaven as well, heading to her company in a good mood.
Before going to the office, Ivy first made a trip to the pharmacy. It hadn’t been 72 hours yet, so there was still time to take the pill.
With the engagement broken, Ivy no longer had to worry about running away and leaving her company unattended.
However, Ivy felt that, given Caleb Blackwood’s temperament, he might come after her or her company. She had to stay vigilant.
With the engagement called off, Ivy truly felt that work was much less stressful. Everything seemed to make her happy. She even treated the entire company to dinner and prepared an even more lavish afternoon tea.
When it was time to get off work, Ivy sent her employees the restaurant’s address, telling them to go ahead and start eating. She still had a few things to finish up and would join them once she was done.
Ivy was different from other bosses. She didn’t exploit her employees. Even for overtime, she paid double and provided better benefits, so they were happy to work the extra hours.
Moreover, Ivy got along very well with her staff, almost like friends. Everyone really liked her.
Ivy finished up her work, closed her laptop, and left the office.
The restaurant for the dinner gathering wasn’t far, so Ivy didn’t plan to drive. It was only a few minutes’ walk away.
However, just as she locked the door and turned around, she saw a figure standing behind her, which gave her a fright.
"Ivy Sherwood, I need to talk to you." Silas Blackwood looked worn and haggard. He hadn’t shaved the stubble on his chin, and his clothes looked like they were from two days ago. If he kept this up, he’d be no different from a homeless man.
It looked as if he hadn’t rested at all; his eyes were sunken.
"I told you last time, I have nothing to say to you," Ivy said coldly.
"We were engaged, after all. Do you have to be like this?" Silas looked at her, his tone urgent. "Were you with Uncle last night?"
"Silas Blackwood, we are no longer engaged. Who I’m with... You! Have! No! Say!" Ivy enunciated the last four words, her voice exceptionally clear.
Silas just felt a suffocating pressure in his chest, an indescribable discomfort.
"So you are with Quentin Blackwood, aren’t you? Have you been cheating on me all this time?"
"Are you crazy? Get lost!" She couldn’t be bothered to waste her breath on Silas and started walking away.
Silas chased after her. "Just tell me! Did you break off our engagement because you’ve fallen for Quentin Blackwood?"
He grew frantic. "Do you think he’s some kind of prize? Do you really think he’d be interested in you? Ivy Sherwood, you can’t possibly think you’re going to marry my uncle, can you? Why don’t you take a good look in the mirror? My uncle has other women on the side, you know, women who are a thousand times more beautiful than you!"
Neither of them noticed that not far away, the headlights of a white sedan were flashing. The driver in the driver’s seat was watching them.
The driver was holding a bottle of liquor, chugging it straight from the bottle.
