Chapter 157: Gradually Stabilizing Camp
When Leon entered the living room, he wasn’t surprised to find Marie still sitting on the couch.
Her eyes lit up as soon as she found him, and a smile appeared on her face. "You two are okay."
Leon nodded, then said, "We almost got turned into ice statues, though."
The woman’s eyes widened, and a flash of fear appeared in her eyes.
"What... why...?"
Leon waved his hand to dismiss her worries. "It was a Tier Two creature. We killed it, anyway."
Marie sighed in relief, but she was still worried. "Are you injured? You..."
Hearing that, Leon laughed. Even though this woman was older than him, she still continued to act like a little girl.
Such a contrast was pleasantly alluring.
"Don’t worry, I’m fine." His expression turned serious. "You’re the one I’m worried about. We need something to hasten your healing."
This time, Marie was the one who tried to soothe his worries.
"You shouldn’t stress yourself about it. Once this place is completely secured, we can go get Fel and the others. Then, she’ll be able to heal me."
Selene tilted her head and asked, "Shouldn’t this camp have a healer?"
Leon’s eyes lit up, and he immediately dashed out of the villa, surprising the two women.
Since most of the evolvers were either in the Inner Ring or Core Ring, it didn’t take long for him to find what he was looking for. After talking with a few evolvers, they directed him to two people who were considered healers in the camp.
One of them was a young girl who liked to cover her face with a mask, while the other was an old man who coughed with every sentence.
They both recognized him as the new leader, so there were no unnecessary complications.
When he returned to the villa, he took the duo to Marie.
"You really found two of them..." Marie blinked in surprise, then smiled bitterly.
Because of their closeness and reliance on Feline, she and Leon hadn’t even considered the fact that there could be more healers.
"Mr. Hugo, you go first."
Leon stepped back and allowed the old man to move closer to Marie. Still, he didn’t step too far. If that man wanted to try anything funny, then his head would explode.
Hugo smiled bitterly as he felt the wariness of the young man behind him. Sighing in his heart, he turned his attention to Marie’s wounded arm, then placed a hand on the limb.
A golden light enveloped her arm, and his mana began to drop rapidly. Marie grunted in discomfort as she felt her cracked bones being mended by a strange force, and even her torn muscles were reconnected by new cells.
After thirty seconds, the man staggered back as he had run out of mana. Turning to Leon, he said, "Cough, cough. That’s all I can do, cough."
Leon nodded and gestured to the young girl. Without saying a word, she stepped forward and took out a small knife.
Leon’s eyes sharpened, but he didn’t move yet. After all, he couldn’t sense any malicious intent from the girl.
Indeed, the knife was for an entirely different purpose. She cut her own finger and let her blood fall on Marie’s arm.
This time, there was no dazzling light. The blood passed through the bandage without staining it, then entered her body.
Marie received a notification that made her eyes widen, and she looked at the girl in surprise.
"You..."
The girl stepped back, her steps faltering. "I can only use that ability once in ten days before I can recover."
Marie’s expression turned serious, and she gave a grateful nod to the girl.
Leon observed their interaction and realized this young girl might be more impressive than he thought. Still, he didn’t comment on it yet.
After he dismissed the two healers, he turned back to Marie.
"How is it now?"
She beamed at him and raised the arm gently. "I can move it for simple things now. In two days, I’ll be able to use it properly."
"Oh?" Leon was surprised, but was relieved. "You should rest properly. Do not overwork yourself."
Marie nodded, then stood up. Having sat in the chair for a long while, she was feeling stiff. So, she decided to retreat to her room.
Finally, it was only Leon and Selene left in the living room.
She looked at him, then said, "You want the armor, don’t you?"
Leon smiled without any surprise. There was no way she wouldn’t notice.
"You’re right. But don’t worry, I have something to offer you in return."
Selene nodded and watched as a scroll appeared in his hand. Curious, she accepted it from him. The instant she saw the description, her eyes trembled faintly.
’This...’
She looked at Leon, then asked with a hint of disbelief in her voice. "You really want to let go of this?"
Leon shook his head. "Naturally, no. But it’d suit you more."
Selene frowned. "I could be your enemy in the future, you know?"
"Perhaps we don’t know," He shrugged. "Let that time come, then I can know whether to regret it or not."
Selene sighed, then turned around. "In that case, the trade is completed."
Holding the scroll in her hand, she returned to her room. Leon watched her leave, then mumbled something to himself.
.........
The next day, the group of five gathered in the dining hall and ate the luxurious meal served by the maids.
The soft, tender meat of the Tier Two Frost Serpent was served to everyone, as a portion of it had been dissected yesterday.
Although it was a bit difficult to cut because of the scales, Leon helped them, and once the mana protection eventually disappeared, they were finally able to cut the meat into edible portions.
As they ate, Leon missed the presence of Nora, who would usually sit on his lap and dine with him. The world was running fast, and a lot of things were changing.
There were many questions in the minds of everyone, and doubts that couldn’t be cleared. However, one thing was undeniable. The world could never return to what it had been.
Watching as a maid cleared his plate, Leon looked at Selene silently.
The young lady sensed his gaze, then spoke. "I made arrangements with Nicolas yesterday, and the food rations for the survivors at the Outer Ring was improved. Now, they have access to two bowls of rice per day, along with mutated beast meat from creatures below Level 20."
Leon nodded in satisfaction. This was what he had planned, and he was glad to see it coming to fruition.
Once Marie was done eating and had her plates cleared, she stood up and turned to Emily and Jones.
"You two should follow me. Let’s take a walk around the Outer Ring."
Although the two were surprised, they were in no position to refuse. After all, Marie’s status was higher than theirs.
"Be careful," Leon warned before they left. The auburn-haired woman nodded in response.
Even though he had spent three days as the leader of this camp, he still didn’t trust everyone here. Just then, Selene’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"I have completed all my evolution requirements."
