Chapter 156: Camp Resources
Leon took a sharp breath, and his smile widened as he looked at the ability scroll. This was undoubtedly a powerful ability, already in the Tier One stage.
’With this, she’ll have no choice but to bargain with me.’
He walked back to the place Selene was standing, and immediately paid attention to the two equipments on the frozen ground.
One was a black and red armor with a red cape behind it, while the other was a pair of earrings.
Selene was quite pleased with the two rewards, as they were both Tier Two equipments. Although she was confused as to why Leon didn’t take any of them, she didn’t question his decision.
"Can you put that in your storage ring?" She asked, her tone noticeably softer.
’Oh? I didn’t think she could be polite,’ Leon rolled his eyes and nodded. He touched the armor first, then paused. It was really impressive, and he immediately made his decision.
’This is what I’ll bargain for.’
He sent the armor into his storage ring, then looked at the corpse.
"Are you thinking what I’m thinking?"
Selene’s eyes shone. "This would be able to feed our whole militia. It could even feed some civilians."
Leon nodded, and placed a hand on it. "We can’t feed it to the civilians, though. They’d explode from the energy overload."
Selene frowned. "Explode? Ah, I see."
She quickly realized the implications of eating high-level meat while being a weakling, and dismissed her idea.
"Not enough space. I doubt my storage ring can even fit this thing if it was empty."
Selene was surprised, as she thought that storage rings usually had infinite space. However, she was wrong.
"Don’t worry, I can pull it by the tail," Leon said, then glanced around. The ice was already melting, and he could finally see the hilt of his sword. The blade was still stuck in the ice, though.
Without delaying, he went over and pulled it out with some effort. After sheathing it, he finally returned to start dragging the corpse.
The two dashed through the forest, the white snake corpse resembling a flood of white scales chasing after them.
When they reached the city gate, they were surprised to find about a hundred evolvers with their weapons drawn and ready to fight.
"What is wrong with you all?" Leon asked with a frown as he pulled the snake closer.
"L-Leader!"
One evolver shouted with wide eyes, disbelief in his voice.
The reason they were all gathered here was because the scouts on the Outer Ring walls had reported seeing an enormous white creature rushing towards the camp from the forest.
They definitely hadn’t expected it to actually be the new leader who went to hunt such a colossal creature.
"Oh, it’s a misunderstanding. I see," Leon mumbled to himself, then pointed at the one who had spoken earlier.
"You, come here."
The evolver approached him stiffly. "Evolver Kurt responding to Leader!"
Leon winced at how cringe it sounded, but he didn’t mind.
"Contact General Nicolas and tell him I want this thing dragged into the Core Ring. He’s free to use the trucks available. Also, I want you guys to start removing the scales. I’ll come check on the progress in a while."
Kurt nodded, and his respect for Leon seemed to have increased. After all, his plan for the beast’s corpse was obvious—food!
’To think our new leader hunted such a powerful beast just to feed us...’
Kurt was almost moved to tears, and many of his comrades shared his thoughts. The aura of the beast was still present, as it hadn’t been long since it died. Hence, they could all tell that it was a powerful beast.
Without knowing that he had just gotten the respect of about a hundred men, Leon left the corpse at the gate and entered the camp with Selene.
As they headed to the main villa, she reported her findings to Leon.
"We currently have 750 assault rifles, 120 battle rifles, 180 submachine guns, 90 combat shotguns, 45 sniper rifles, and approximately 1000 sidearms."
She paused, letting him digest the information. Once Leon nodded, she continued.
"As for heavy weapons, we possess 30 medium machine guns, 10 heavy machine guns, 25 grenade launchers, 10 automatic grenade launchers, 8 reusable rocket launchers, 12 disposable anti-tank launchers, 8 sixty-millimeter mortars, and 4 eighty-one-millimeter mortars."
She paused briefly before moving on. "Our ammunition reserves are still considerable. We have roughly 50,000 rounds of 5.56 NATO, 18,000 rounds of 7.62 NATO, 30,000 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition, 8,000 shotgun shells, 3,000 sniper rounds, and around 500 .50 BMG rounds."
Although Leon was unfamiliar with most of the military terminology, he still gestured for her to continue.
"Explosive reserves consist of approximately 300 fragmentation grenades, 120 smoke grenades, 80 flashbangs, 40 claymore mines, nearly 120 kilograms of C4 explosives, 18 RPG rockets, and 80 mortar shells."
She glanced around as they entered the Inner Ring, seeing the people looking at them curiously.
"From a military standpoint, this camp is still in excellent condition. We possess enough firepower to repel ordinary zombie hordes and defend against most Tier One mutated beasts."
Her expression grew more serious.
"However, ammunition is a non-renewable resource. Every bullet we fire is one we cannot replace. Against Tier One and stronger enemies, conventional firearms also become increasingly ineffective. If we’re forced into prolonged battles, our stockpiles will disappear much faster than we’d like."
Looking Leon in the eyes, she concluded calmly, "In other words... our military strength looks impressive on paper, but it won’t sustain us forever."
He rubbed his forehead tiredly, then looked up as they entered the Core Ring. Everyone here recognized them, so they were treated with respect.
When they entered into the villa, Leon finally spoke. "How long do you think that will last us?"
Selene pondered for a moment, then answered. "Hypothetically, if no large zombie horde attacks the settlement, then our current ammunition reserves can sustain regular patrols and defensive operations for roughly two months."
"I see..."
Leon nodded, already mapping out his next plans for the camp.
’First, we need to move the others from our original site to this place. Then, we can find a way to build an army of strong evolvers. If I use my ability well, then it will be quite easy.’
Although it was easy when thinking about it, he knew carrying out such operations would be stressful.
’One step at a time... Clara, wait for me.’
