Chapter 153: Tier Two Enemy
BOOM!
The outer edges of the forest rumbled from the impact, and several trees were flattened from the shockwave.
The unranked creatures that had been lurking around immediately scattered, not wanting to be caught up in this monstrous battle between a snake and a human.
’Crazy...’
Leon thought as he took shaky steps back, dragging his sword with his trembling arms.
He had managed to knock back the snake’s tail, but at the cost of his arms going numb. Still, he was glad he had managed to wound the beast.
The snake hissed sharply as it observed its injured tail. Several white scales were cracked, and dark red blood was seeping from the wound.
The mutated snake’s anger rose, and it raised its head higher, looming over the seemingly insignificant human figure.
When it looked down at him, Leon realized he had been missing an important detail.
’Blue Crystal? Blue?’
On the forehead of the snake was a shiny blue soul crystal. Instantly, Leon knew his opponent wasn’t a Tier One creature.
’Tier Two...’
This was his first time encountering one, and he could already feel the pressure building up on his shoulders.
’I’m relieved I met it here, though. If such monstrosity had been able to reach the camp, I’m afraid many lives would have been lost.’
Locking eyes with the dangerous creature, he slowly raised his weapon and stepped back.
’Give your 200%, Leon. Yep, your 200%.’
The next moment, a thunderous explosion shook the outer perimeter of the forest. With speed that he could barely process, the snake’s tail swung at him, knocking him into a large mutated tree.
Leon managed to mitigate the force of the blow with the flat of his blade, but was forced to cough up a mouthful of blood after knocking into the tree.
He didn’t have time to catch his breath as the beast already opened its mouth and shot towards him with the intention of consuming him.
’I don’t taste good, I swear.’
Leon hastily dashed out of its way, causing the creature to bite into the tree instead. The poor plant that had yet to fully mutate into a sentient lifeform snapped in half under the powerful fangs of the snake.
’Absurd physical strength, speed, ice attacks, and powerful fangs. What could be a weakness?’
As he distanced himself from the slithering creature, Leon tried to find a possible weakness. However, it was somewhat impossible.
If his opponent was a Tier One beast, he might have had a good chance. However, facing a Tier Two enemy, he was completely outclassed.
’Its physical stats must be above 200, right? I’m cooked.’
Although things looked grim, Leon wasn’t too pessimistic. He would eventually think of something.
Dashing at the snake while it spat out the wooden trunk in its mouth, he jumped into the air and swung his blade at its large back.
Bang! Crack!
As expected, several scales cracked from the force of the greatsword. Blood poured from the wound, staining the white scales and pouring onto the ground. However, it wasn’t enough.
The snake’s body was too large to be seriously affected by such little injury.
’Unless they pile up, of course.’
His eyes shone at the thought, but his expression changed when he sensed the tail slamming towards him in fury.
Quickly, he took out Marie’s shield from his storage ring and held it by his side.
Bang!
The force of the hit shook his insides greatly, and when he landed meters away, he spat out fresh blood again.
’Dammit. I always thought it was comical when those characters spit blood, but now...’
He coughed up more blood, then stood up with staggering steps.
’How do I inflict more wounds on this thing while ensuring I don’t die?’
Before he even finished the thought, the snake was already rushing towards him, its maw opened to release a beam of ice.
Leon knew he wouldn’t be able to dodge in time, so he stepped into his own shadow, teleporting into the snake’s shadow.
While its ice attacks ravaged his former position, he didn’t hesitate to swing his weapon after tossing the shield back into the ring.
Bang!
His sword cracked a few more scales, becoming the third injury on the beast.
It hissed in annoyance, turning to him with fury blazing in its blue eyes. Leon frowned as he began to realize his chances against this creature were ridiculously low.
’Should I run?’
His eyes narrowed, and he considered the option seriously. After two seconds, the thought was dismissed. He definitely wasn’t as fast as this creature. As for using Shadow Teleportation, the thought naturally appeared. However, he could only use it two more times before his mana ran dry.
Even though Thyra had taught him a few things, it wasn’t enough to cause a huge reduction in the mana consumption for that skill. Shadow Teleportation was still Teleportation, after all.
’Oh, well. Let’s do it the tiring way, then.’
He looked up to see the massive tail crashing down towards him from the sky. Without hesitation, he took out the shield and blocked the attack. After all, he didn’t want to turn into meat paste.
After escaping from the attack, he retaliated with a swing of his greatsword, inflicting another wound to the creature’s enormous body.
For the next five minutes, Leon and the mutated snake engaged in a gruesome battle. The snake always attacked with its tail, fangs, or ice attack, which Leon would either manage to dodge by a hair’s breadth or block at the cost of his ruptured internal organs.
Of course, he wasn’t passive too. Immediately after blocking or evading its attack, he would always retaliate, dealing more wounds to its massive body.
Boom!
He was knocked back, barely able to keep standing as the arm which he used to carry the shield trembled. The blood running down his face, coupled with his dead-fish eyes, made him look like a demon used to scare kids at night.
The mutated snake wasn’t any better either. Several of its scales were cracked, with dark red blood seeping from the wounds. The annoyance in its eyes had grown to the extent where it turned into anger after realizing it still hadn’t managed to kill this insignificant creature.
Just as Leon sent the shield into his storage ring and retrieved his greatsword, he heard a familiar cold voice.
"Tier Two? Your luck is really the worst."
Even though her words were insulting, Leon felt relieved, surprising himself. He didn’t think he’d ever feel relieved hearing this lady’s voice.
’Oh, well, there’s a first time for everything.’
