Chapter 144: Crushing Floyd Bennett Camp (2)
When the three intruders entered the Core Ring, they were met with a thick layer of defense that made them pause and reassess their surroundings.
Compared to the Outer Ring, this place was heaven. The environment was neat, with trimmed flowers and luxurious villas all around. Solar fluorescent lights lit up the streets, illuminating the place in the darkness of the night.
’Around three hundred armed men and over a hundred evolvers,’ Leon noted, his gaze scanning the defense line. Several tiny red lights illuminated his armor, a sign that any movement from him would result in ceaseless fire. The same was true for the two women beside him.
From behind, another group of evolvers coming from the other parts of the Inner Ring blocked their paths to retreat.
’Not like we’d be needing it anyway.’
While having that thought, Leon finally focused on the man who appeared to be the leader of this camp.
’Black American? Not bad.’
Seeing the other party finally look at him, Dwyane frowned. He sensed no prejudice from Leon even though he was black. However, he still felt uneasy. Most importantly, he was confused. What were three unranked evolvers doing trying to cause trouble at his base?
For a moment, he forgot about Samuel’s intuition and spoke to Leon, "Man, should I say you’re stupid or what? Did you think the three of you can really beat several evolvers that are on your level and even higher?"
His question, while mocking, was actually a probe. He wanted to know if there were more enemies lurking in the darkness and waiting to strike.
Leon scratched his head and nodded. "Actually, I didn’t want to bring these two before, but I realized I’d be alone at an enemy base and it’d be too boring."
Marie’s lips twitched. Meanwhile, Selene looked at him like she was seeing a fish that could fly. He brought them so he wouldn’t get bored?
While it seemed absurd, that kind of reasoning was not unreal. After all, if he really conquered this base, he’d still be a stranger here.
’Why am I even thinking about it? Tch.’ She shook her head.
Dwayne’s face darkened at Leon’s words, realizing the other party wasn’t taking him seriously.
Without hesitation, he spoke calmly. "Kill him."
None of the armed men moved, but someone far away did. A trigger was pulled, and a special magic bullet flew out of the sniper muzzle, straight at Leon’s head.
He didn’t move from his position and took the hit.
Bang!
His head snapped back a couple of inches, and a wince escaped his lips. "That stung."
Marie watched with wide eyes, as she hadn’t been expecting him to actually take on that attack.
Rubbing his forehead with a sore expression, Leon looked into the distance where the evolver that had fired the shot was.
Although that person was hiding under the cover of the darkness, Leon saw him perfectly.
’I would’ve killed him... but he’ll probably become an important asset later.’
Shaking his head, he looked at Dwayne and said, "Don’t order these guys to fire, please. I don’t want to have useless loss of ammunition."
Dwayne’s lips twitched, feeling increasingly irritated by this particular enemy. Now, he dismissed his unease and said.
"Fire."
The armed men reacted immediately, firing loads of bullets at the three intruders.
Before any of the bullets could reach them, though, the three activated their Force Rings, creating barriers that blocked the attacks easily.
Leon sighed as he saw the bullets being wasted. "What a pity."
The armed men immediately noticed that their overwhelming firepower had no effect on the enemy, so they stopped.
Just as Dwayne was about to tell them to continue and try to exhaust the enemy’s defensive equipment, he felt a chill run down his spine.
He immediately crossed his arms before his chest as one of his traits kicked in.
Bang!
He was sent flying by a few meters, knocking all those who were behind him to the ground. Even though he was caught off guard, Dwayne didn’t fall pathetically. He stopped himself by digging his boots into the ground. Then, he glared at Leon.
"You..."
He couldn’t afford any other words after that. Seeing the human charging at him with his fist drawn back, Dwayne growled and activated his ability [SunSpirit Transformation].
His body was enveloped in flames that didn’t hurt him, but was definitely hot enough to make any other Tier One Evolved feel discomfort.
Of course, that was different when it came to Leon. With his [Fire Resistance] trait, the effect of the heat weakened considerably, and he was able to confront him.
"Die!!!"
Dwayne’s roar shook the air as his own fist shot forward to meet the incoming punch.
Boom!
When the two fists met midair, a heavy shockwave pushed both men back, their expressions shifting.
Leon was surprised to see his Tier One armor’s gauntlet bright red after receiving Dwayne’s full punch.
Meanwhile, Dwayne was surprised that the armor hadn’t been turned to scrap when his punch connected. How was that possible? No unranked armor had been capable of withstanding his full punch.
’Unless... Tier One Armor?’
His eyes widened, and he almost refused to believe it. However, reality was right in front of him. In the entire camp, there were only two pieces of Tier One equipment, and they had been obtained after several fierce battles against Tier One beasts. Yet, something like that was with someone who hadn’t evolved into Tier One and didn’t possess a class.
Unconsciously, he clenched his jaw hard, feeling even more determined to kill Leon here today.
While the two men glared at each other after exchanging their first blow, the two women were not idle with the rest of the enemies either.
Selene took it upon herself to fight the other two Tier One Evolved while Marie dealt with the weaker evolvers and armed men.
’This is going to be quite a hassle.’
She frowned, looking at the muscular man and the skinny guy who was obviously a special kind of assassin. She had never fought a Tier One Evolved human before, but she had her fair share of experience with different Tier One beasts. After all, she hadn’t been relaxing while they were building Leon’s base.
As for whether she would lose or not, there was no need to think about that.
Collins took a heavy step forward, raising his club as he glared at her.
"Samuel, take care of that spear woman. I’ll handle this lady."
Samuel nodded and was about to go after Marie when a cold voice stopped him in his tracks.
"Who said you could leave?"
