Chapter 122: Land of Mystery [Part 15]

"She left? Quite quick on her feet isn’t she?"

Nyx, who had just arrived, watched Scathach escape the moment her aura appeared within the space.

That was the woman who took control of Tartarus? It seems she hasn’t found out its secrets yet but... I see-

The thoughts that were swirling within the mind of the Goddess Nyx... if anyone were to hear them, the secrets she held would cause immediate chaos.

But Nyx understood the value of her knowledge, she had watched geniuses, generational talents, kings and emperors- all of them had fought to the death just to get her favor.

Even in the current era where magic is far from the peak where it used to be, her knowledge secrets left by the mystics of ages past would undoubtedly cause tremors that would shake the whole world.

Nyx saw it herself, the age of the God’s had passed and she had reclaimed many of her domains.

If she wanted to, the revelation of the secrets of the mystical realm would not have occurred.

But the revelation of such secrets did not affect her goals, in fact, it helped accelerate her plans forward.

Without making a move herself, Nyx found the world of mystics moving at a pace had never seen in centuries.

I’ve contracted with many mystics, many talents... if I had known that the descendant of Merlin was bound to so many of the world’s powers...

Richard was right in holding back on the Goddess, even when she disappeared, Richard did not find it a loss.

Instead, the disappearance of the Goddess brought Richard a bit of a headache. The stress of not knowing what the Goddess was planning worried Richard constantly.

If it weren’t for the fact that the Goddess had given Richard the blood of the Nephilim, he would have long started planning how to deal with her.

Although the Goddess had lost the ability to rea Richard’s mind, she was still able to see through his thoughts.

Just because she lost the ability to read his mind didn’t mean that the things she learned about Richard’s personality would be useless.

Though the recent changes in his personality did cause the Goddess some issues.

In fact, the Goddess had predicted Richard to set-up his base in Japan.

But he chose to use the Philippines as his base, then he went ahead and lived an extremely hedonistic life.

While that too went along with Nyx’s plans as it was still within the path which she had long set up-

Even when Richard had skipped a lot of phases, this change made Nyx worry about her contractor.

It was obvious why Richard was moving the way he was.

He’s rushing forward.

Richard was not the type of person to indulge his lust.

But the inheritance he got would only show its effectiveness if he truly indulged in vices.

What she didn’t expect though was for Richard to awaken another inheritance and that was from a line that she have never thought that she would get to see again.

Nyx was not unfamiliar with the Succubi, but before they carried that name- they went under a different name at that time... a name that had long been forgotten by history but their legends still carry on till the current age.

Did those monsters really survive or...

The Goddess had read through many tomes and books, she had recently started to investigate the various forces in the world.

The various religions...

Despite their differences, the various religions have a few similarities, mainly in the creatures that were in their texts.

To others, it was either a new bit of information or knowledge that they grew up with but to Nyx, the descriptions and images were very familiar.

For now, at least Tartarus seems to still be in its seal...

Unfortunately, such matters were things that neither she nor Richard could deal with for the time being.

Richard’s mad rush for power was very obvious to Nyx and she was glad that he was not completely taken over by the man who lost her favor due to his recklessness.

Seeing Richard hesitate when he saw the battle between the old man and the woman who inherited the Tartarus-

Her previous contractor would have immediately jumped at the opportunity to look for chances or even scrape up some benefits from the loser and victor.

While such courageous yet reckless actions had led him to win great rewards, they also led the man to his own demise.

Success is not always guaranteed if you gamble at every turn, Richard was not that kind of person and even with his "Shift in personality" he still retained the calm cunning he had since the start.

The moment of hesitation was enough for Nyx to calm her heart down as she had a greater understanding of her current contractor’s way of thought.

Still, as the battle came to a close, the woman, Scathach, seemed to have immediately noticed her presence.

Instead of killing the old man, she sealed him using the power of tartarus, the power that could even seal primordial entities.

At one point, Nyx herself had command over that domain- such is why the domain had become a land of darkness.

Not only did it change the image of the land where God’s were sealed, it also hid the various seals and prison in darkness.

Unless one had command over the darkness, it was unlikely for anyone but Nyx to see through the darkness of the domain.

But the woman, Scathach, did not aim for the sealed entities powers. Instead, she used the power of Tartarus that had been tainted by Nyx’s own essence.

This was exactly what Nyx planned, the reason why she let go of Tartarus and other domains was because she had long tainted it with her own essence.

Even if the inheritors of the domains take over, they were bound to forever be under Nyx’s rule.

But rebellion was something common.

Scathach understood the position she had when faced with Nyx.

So that first escape was not a fluke...

Scathach had no reason to escape before in Japan, yet she did, she did not try to ensure that Richard was truly dead and instead ran away the moment she stabbed him.

At that point, she had noticed Nyx.

Even Nyx was unsure whether the actions of Scathach that night was due to her sensing the power of a superior entity or not but her move this time was enough proof.

A good seal

Nyx did not manifest herself and simply improved the seal that was placed on the old man without leaving a trace.

Continue to get stronger Richard, I need you to be stronger, more influential and with more will...

Revealing herself and giving Richard peace of mind would only slow him down.

The greatest threat to Richard was not the unknown external enemies but Nyx herself.

She was aware of that, she knew that Richard was unbothered by the enemies who were unaware of his limits and moved silently.

Those enemies were predictable and moved within a limit from which Richard could stay within.

Nyx?

As a Goddess, she could simply go into slumber for another century if things go south, moreover, her power was enough to end all the problem but-

I wonder how this tale will end~

She watched as Richard appeared, he had completed the seal on the Ice Witch whom he had been obsessed with just recently.

The woman who was the cause of his change, the first domino that led Richard to her-

She deserves this much

Nyx could see that the ice woman was not planning anything that would harm Richard or cause him trouble.

Like before, the only reason she stuck to Richard was an obsession.

Mortals are always swayed by such things...

With those words, Nyx left the scene after giving Richard a good long look.

Her gaze, words, presence and any trace of her existence- none were left or were found at the scene.

Alas, Richard had not yet immersed himself in darkness like Scathach.

Richard decided to complete the seal and after he did, the battle between the old man and Scathach came to an end at the same time.

Whether she planned it or not... Richar did not know.

He felt that Scathach’s gaze went his way for a moment just as she sealed the old man but her attention was elsewhere.

It was weird and Richard quietly waited for a few minutes before approaching the spot where the old man was sealed.

"Odin..."

The moment he and Skadi appeared on the spot, Skadi immediately blurted out a name that Richard did not expect.

"Huh? Why was there no lightning or thunder?"

Richard knew that mass media was not accurate and many were based on dramatization of the mythical figure which was explained once more by Skadi-

"Just because Thor was said to wield lightning doesn’t mean that Odin did as well... no, he can wield lightning but only while using runes-"

Skadi explained that Odin was a master of runic magic. Through that, he created various systems and formations as well as items that gave his sons, nothing more than superhuman barbarians the ability to wield magic.

"He stole the inherent power from our and other races, took us all as slaves and had our strongest mages turned into batteries for his floating city..."

The Godlike power that was wielded by the Asgardians were all stolen from others it seems.

Only Odin was truly capable of magic and the only one who could match him was his wife Frigg, a born seer.

While the legends spoke of Odin being a seer as well, in truth, he simply took over the power of the Vanir, stole the connection to the world tree and used that to gain access to the world.

In essence, Odin had used the world tree to connect to all plantlife in the world giving him a near omniscient viewpoint (😉) of the world.

Combine that with his wife’s prophecies and all he had to do was give his wife a different domain and he could take over the seat of knowledge.

Richard still did not understand the importance of titles but Skadi emphasized that they were valuable in improving one’s magic.

Aside from magic though, Odin’s other inherent abilities were the techniques he developed to enter a mad rage during combat and his spear technique that allowed him to deliver strikes that could not be dodged.

"So aside from Gungnir and magic, Odin’s basically a fraud?"

"Legends treat him as wise man and a trickster and while the former is debatable, the latter is 100% true"

"I thought loki was the tricksters"

"He’s more like a mischievous and rebellious brat, Odin was the man going around tricking people into slavery and becoming the fuel to his dynasty"

Learning about Odin gave Richard various thoughts to process but first-

"So? What do we do with him?"

Yet the first thing he had to deal with was the sealed Odin.

"What a pain"
