Chapter 121: Land of Mystery [Part 14]
Scathach giggled as she watched the old man rush at her with rage.
"You’ve lost your regal bearing and are nothing more than a battered old beggar"
She continued to taunt the old man who launched himself at her.
Scathach had long transformed into a truly material form yet even that was still clad in shadows.
Like skin and clothes, the shadows not only covered her body like skin, it also formed her clothes and even a weapon that she wielded.
A spear... that was her weapon of choice and it matched the weapon that was wielded by the old man.
The old man got even wilder the more Scathach talked and his strikes were not aimed at killing.
Booth Scathach and the old man were seasoned warriors and Scathach... she saw through the methodical and careful madness that the old man wielded with great proficiency.
Despite moving with madness and showing a face filled with anger, the old man’s strikes were aimed at maiming.
While many warriors would call it a rather dull and amateurish tactic, the old man’s aim was obviously not simple murder.
Scathach is an immortal and while killing her would end her life temporarily, the old man would not be able to calm down by simply killing the damned Queen of the Land of Shadows.
The old man would only be satisfied after he cut apart her limbs and put her through a hell that would break her.
But Scathach won’t let herself be defeated and dealt with so easily-
No-
Did the old man even have the power to do what he claimed?
"Do you really think that pitiful strength you now have is enough to harm even a single hair on my body?"
She laughed while dodging the thrust of the old man’s spear while also sending her own counterattack at the same time.
Like a snake, Scathach’s spear weaved itself along the shaft of the old man’s spear.
The old man attacked with precision but his movement was a little bit too stiff.
Though the stiffness in the old man’s movement and attacks did not come from inexperience or a low level martial art.
Scathach’s combat style was close to that of an assassin.
"The Spear is the King of all Weapons"
Such a statement did not come from nowhere.
The spear was a weapon that even a peasant could wield, a tiny blade attached to a long staff-
With a long reach and multiple ways to move about the deadly edge, the spear was both versatile and limited in its use.
It all depended on the user of the weapon and how they chose to wield it.
The old man’s technique was focused on power.
He used the spear shaft like a staff and the blade was the dead edge that he used like a short ranged arrow.
The old man’s attacks were focused on thrusts, the lethality in his technique came from the single point on his spear.
In the past, the old man’s spear was said to have an accuracy that could strike anyone should the old man desire it.
A spear thrust that could pierce through any protection, that could hit any target-
"Is that all Gungnir is? Just an idiot stabbing his spear forward... ha! Without your mystical might, you’re nothing more than a pitiful old man stabbing blindly!"
Scathach made fun of the old man as she weilder her spear in a way that was unlike the old man.
While the old man’s method was stiff, the technique used by Scathach was "flexible".
The spear shaft moved through the air like a whip and Scathach’s attack was not focused on that flexibility.
At times, Scathach’s spear suddenly stiffens then it softens once more.
The old man was unable to dodge many of the strikes that Scathach had made, most of them targeting his limbs.
Those who had even a little bit of knowledge on weapon techniques would be abbble to notice the stark difference in the techniques used by the two combatants.
The old man weilded his spear with both hands constantly, his grip was centered around the middle of the spear shaft.
On the other hand, Scathach weilded her spear with extreme freedom.
Her hands position on the spear shaft constantly shiftetd and at it would at times look as if she had let go of the staff.
Scathach danced through the fight, her movements were lithe and quick, like a leaf falling, any distanced that tried to strike at her would just push her body away and never touch her body.
While her bbody danced through the battle, hhher spear ttoo was dancing in the wind.
The old man could not properly predict the attacks that came his way.
Scathach’s technique was akin to capoeira, but unlike that martial art hat was more lithe for "show", the agility Scathach showed matched her technique in wielding her spear.
A trejctory that was unseen, attacks that came in waves and a target that could never get hit-
Even for the legendary "Gungnir", without the support of the magic he had in the past, the old man could not land even a single strike.
The exchange between the two continued,
Scathach continued to laugh and dance around the old man who did not show any hint of desperation.
His limbs were already bloodied and the marks of the curse that enveloped Scathach’s spear.
Their exchange continued with the same energy that it started with- in fact, the energy that old man was giving off was constantly rising yet Scathach was somehow able to match his power and energy constantly.
Even the old man could already tell that Scathach was holding back. She was only increasing her power to match his own increase and that was something that would have made any other warrior pause and lose the will to fight.
But the old man was no simple individual.
He was not a random hero, this was not his first battle and he did not obtain his power recently.
The old man had once stood at the top of the world, he had fended off the people who tried to take away his seat.
At one point in time, people prayed to him for protection, for blessing but now...
"What’s wrong old man? Losing gas so quickly? Where’s the pretentious bastard that demanded my virginty?"
Scathach laughed as she continued to sneak in attacks that drained the power and life from the old man but hiis silence was suddenly broken as he answered-
"I should have taken your pitiful cunt back then"
The old man spoke, once known as the king of the God’s, Odin, the one eyed lord of the Aesir spoke in response to Scathach’s provocations.
"If you did, you would have lost your life"
Scathach was not provoked by his reply though.
Even the army of the einherjar of the past was unable to do anything against Scathach’s army of shadows.
But Odin’s attention in the past was something that made Scathach suffer for a time.
While the Aesir, even with full force of an army of Einherjar at their peak power was unable to even touch Scathach in the land of shadows- that severely limited her movement.
The queen of the the land of shadows, such a title was something she earned after being forced to hole herself up in the dark castle which became her sanctuary and fortress.
The loneliness she had to suffer was brought about by a crazed mystical being who got attracted to her body.
That in itself was enough of a reason for Scathach to hate Odin.
But at the same time, that isolation and the state she was forced to bear was the reason why she had encountered "that man".
While he was indeed pitiful and it took him quite a few reincarnations to truly take down the Aesir, Scathach was happy that her suffering could bear a fruit so sweet.
Alas, Scathach found herself in a rather difficult situation after leaving her prison.
The power that the man obtained in order to take down the Aesir was enough to match her.
Moreover, he had also long forgotten about the promise he had made.
His reincarnation spell was yet to be complete and even now, it was not as perfect as it should have been.
But Scathach was not discouraged, she had already waited long enough, a couple more centuries was not long...
Is what she thought but the chance... when it came, was hard to pass up.
But it is not time yet-
Scathach turned her gaze towards the distant skies, the man who she had been dreaming of for millenia was right there.
Others would have gotten mad at how he was hugging a different woman but Scathach was already used to such a sight.
Moreover, the woman in his embrace-
The ice witch had yet to give up huh?
A loser who could not completely hold onto him even after multiple reincarnations was not someone she had to worry about.
He’s already become the type of man that could become my mate...
She licked her lips while dodging a fatal strike that Odin had tried to land while retaliating with a strike of her own.
"This is a gift to him"
The spear that she had stabbed forward bound the old man to the ground, locking him in place.
"Till we meet again"
She turned towards the distant sky as she muttered those words before vanishing into the shadows once more.
