Chapter 123: Land of Mystery [Part 16]
The sealed body and soul of a God.
In stories, such a thing would either become the main character’s ticket to greatness or food for their growth.
Maybe if I inherited power related to gluttony, greed or other vices...
Unfortunately for Richard, his inheritance was related to lust and no matter how desperate he was, there was no way in hell he was going to insert his dick into an old man or let the old man’s floppy hotdog get anywhere near him.
Which meant that the sealed body of the God Odin was completely...
"Useless"
He sighed while looking at the sealed body.
"I see, even with your inheritance, there was no way for you to use it huh?"
Skadi commented while shaking her head.
"Well, not in a way that would increase my power, but I have other ways to use this mystical source"
While it was unfortunate that he could not use the body of Odin to reach a realm of power that was greater than what he currently had.
The mystical source of Odin, while it was not at the level wher it once was, it still contained the power of domains.
Domains- these were powers that one could equate to "rules" of the world.
These type of powers were mystics in nature but at the same time not.
Unlike mystical powers that rejects the rules of the world and enforces ones own will upon the world. The power of domains is the closest kind of power that one could call "true miracles".
Control over a domain gives one the ability to create "permanent" changes to reality.
One of those "permanent" fixtures that were born from the power of domains is the realm of shadows. The land that was under the control of Scathach and the source of her strength.
Such knowledge came from his inheritance courtesy of Merlin.
The ancient mage was not only a womanizer and a powerful magical warrior and leader, he was also quite the scholar.
With all of Merlin’s accomplishments, Richard couldn’t help but compare his ancestor or past life incarnation to many of the modern OP protagonists in the stories he had read.
Yet unlike those idiots who got stronger through a "System", Merlin was a genuine genius.
A true genius that was given an extremely long life, access to power and while he wasn’t born with all the blessings a protagonist would have, Merlini was quite a schemer.
How else would he have gotten so much power and knowledge?
In an era where knowledge was treated as the "key to power", Merlin was able to steal away the knowledge that was kept from others.
With his creativity and talent, Merlin was able to slowly develop his power and by the time he started to make a name for himself- he had already reached a point where he was near the level of power that the mystical beings were at.
Merlin used everything he learned to improve his strength and through that he created a way to take over a domain that didn’t have an owner.
Alas, that domain didn’t have an owner for a reason.
Space...
The creation of subspaces, the creation of lands filled with mystical energy and the sealing of souls transforming them into a unified will to use for magic.
The domain of Space was one that encroached upon too many things and there was a reason why even the ancient deities did not take control of it.
Richard already had a guess as to which domains Nyx had control over.
Even if the legends that were accumulated by man were not a truly reliable source of information.
Especially since Richard had also learned from his inheritance that many of the tales from the past, the legends that were passed down through history were written and spread by Merlin himself.
Of course, not all of the tales came from Merlin, there was a reason why God’s and other historical figures were not portrayed in the same way.
While there was truth in the fact that information gets muddled as time passed, the reason why many "similarities" among legends exists as "vague similarities" rather than a "one to one" match came from this.
The twisting of knowledge, the retelling of history, such an act was done even by non-mystics.
To call a war "necessary" to call it "evil"-
If non-mystics could twist the truth, how could mystics who had the ability to directly alter memories and manipulate thoughts not have the power to do the same?
Yet even in such a case, the powers that Nyx showed had a strong connection to shadows and many of the abilities that Scathach revealed were similar to the powers displayed by Nyx.
But the level of power Scathach had, while it was far above what Richard could command, it was far below the level of unfathomable might that came from Nyx.
Nyx was said to be a primordial god, born from chaos... but if she was born from chaos then what are the nephilim?
The more Richard learns, the more he discovers and the more he comes to realize... Richard finds himself even deeper in a mire.
What started as a treasure hunt had now become a trap, a hole which Richard realized he can’t climb out from.
Like digging for treasure, the mysteries of magic, the mysteries of the past and of the beings that had the power to command the mystical forces-
It did nothing but give him more questions, every answer only led to five more unknowns and what started as a simple search of "X" was now a search for the entire alphabet.
At this point, Richard was already using subscripts to label the ever growing number of variables.
In any case, his domain should stabilize this space, with Odin as the core of the formation, the power that was used to maintain it could be redirected to strengthen the barrier.
Based on what Skadi had explained to him while they were watching the battle between Odin and Scathach, despite the source of the barrier being strong, against the true mystics, the barrier was nothing more than a small wooden fence.
Yet strengthening the barrier was not possible as the power was being focused on the maintenance of the realm.
It was a weakness that had no solution but now?
"Should we use it for the barrier or the realm?"
Odin’s domains... Richard had to first investigate what they were but that would not change the fact that the power it holds should be enough to power the realm indefinitely.
The problem was whether he should focus on the realm or the barrier...
"Shouldn’t you focus on the war?"
Skadi asked while turning her attention towards Morgana and Freyja who were still in fighting.
"The winners already decided, Morgana’s still holding back, unless Freyja has a tool close in power to Ragnarok- there is absolutely no way for her to win"
Skadi was wide eyed at Richard’s response as she asked.
"Did you give Morgana a relic?"
Ragnarok was but one of the many tools that Merlini had created.
It was not a far fetched idea that Richard, upon inheriting the knowledge of Merlin had obtained the knowledge to create similar weapons or even look for that that Merlin had created in the past.
After all, such tools were known only to a select few and only Merlin knew where all the tools were and what their forms were.
Like Ragnarok, no one would have believed it to be a powerful ancient artifact if they discovered it. In fact, the spear could have easily been broken into pieces and scattered throughout the world.
Yet the spear would not decompose, its pieces would remain intact and could regain its might when its reformed.
All the other tools Merlin created were of the same nature.
Their mere destruction was not enough to completely erase the various mystical powers that were imbued into them.
Moreover, Merlin was not limited to using tools he had created in the past-
"Nope, she got something better"
But Richard was not focused on such tools.
They were dangerous and prone to being misused.
Of course he could impose limits on them like Merlin but Richard did not know how long he would live and whether someone would be able to get the better of him.
He could set up a plan for his potential death but he would not want to get continuously killed by his own creation.
Getting stabbed in the heart by the spear that he forged together with Scathach in the past was enough for him to endure.
That was the first and last time he would have a weapon of his own creation be used against him.
Instead, he used that knowledge which Merlin accumulated that led to the creation of such tools and rewrote them.
That knowledge was what Morgana had used to create this realm and Richard was glad that he had spent a hours "talking" with Morgana while he was doing her in the back.
Of course, the fact that he roleplayed as a teacher would only be known to him and Morgana.
Some things are better left unknown after all...
