Chapter 37: Chapter 35: Swordsmanship Club, Genius Girl
Chen Chong’s group of four lived in 701, on the far left of the seventh floor.
These two open doors were for rooms 709 and 710, on the far right.
"Two rooms right next to each other. Did someone get two suites at once?"
"Maybe security opened the doors to get something?"
"Doesn’t seem like it..."
As Chen Chong and Xu Jun were talking, several figures walked out of 710.
Four men and two women, all with straight postures, swords at their waists, and carrying something in their hands.
Chen Chong saw them, and they saw Chen Chong’s group.
The young man in the lead was taken aback for a moment to see the four people across the hall staring at them, but then he gave a slight nod with a smile.
Chen Chong was a little surprised, then nodded back with a smile of his own.
The two groups had exchanged greetings.
"Let’s go. It’s not good to keep staring. Let’s head inside."
Taking out the key, they opened their door. The four of them went inside, closed the door, put their things on the floor, and finally sat down on the sofa.
"Brother Chong, who were those people? They were pretty... polite, huh."
Xu Jun was curious, thinking back on the group’s attitude.
Chen Chong thought for a moment. "They’re probably from the Swordsmanship Club. I mean, I saw they all had swords at their waists. Only that club would have things like that."
"The Swordsmanship Club?" Xu Jun sat up straight, a hint of excitement on his face. "You mean the one that’s rumored to have less than ten members but often travels for competitions and has been in the news several times?"
"If I’m not mistaken, yes." Chen Chong nodded.
He could understand Xu Jun’s reaction. After all, the Swordsmanship Club had a special status at the school.
Other clubs were, to a greater or lesser extent, recreational, created for the purpose of cultivating students’ hobbies and interests.
As long as you were interested in the club’s activities, you could sign up to join at any time. The only requirement was to be a student at the school. Basically, anyone could get in.
But the Swordsmanship Club was different. It wasn’t open to the public, and its members were fixed from the very beginning.
Moreover, they had special approval from the school’s top administration, making them the only group on campus permitted to carry real swords and other controlled weapons.
The reason was simple: the Swordsmanship Club wasn’t founded on hobbies, but to compete for glory.
Every member of the club was a professional, city-level swordsman who had won numerous honors. This brought prestige to the school and helped its rankings, so the administration repeatedly provided them with various conveniences.
However, because they were always training or away at competitions, not many people were familiar with the faces of the Swordsmanship Club members...
Of course, this alone wasn’t enough to get Xu Jun so excited. The biggest reason was that the captain of the Swordsmanship Club was a very beautiful girl.
There was even an interesting story about her looks. A talent scout had supposedly taken a liking to her appearance and made a special trip to the school to invite her to sign with an agency and become an actress, but she refused.
But the scout was dead set on signing her and visited her again and again.
He ended up disturbing the Swordsmanship Club’s training and had his clothes shredded by several members with their swords, forcing him to run away with his ass bare.
As he ran, he was screaming and wailing, yelling that the people from the Swordsmanship Club were lunatics and that they were trying to kill him!
After that, no one dared to disturb the Swordsmanship Club again...
Although it was just an amusing anecdote, it was also indirect proof of just how beautiful the Swordsmanship Club’s captain was.
Chen Chong didn’t consider himself someone who judged by looks, but even he had to admit, upon seeing her in the news, that she was truly beautiful.
On top of that, she wasn’t just a pretty face; she had real skills.
A few years ago, she had become the national Swordsmanship champion in her age group!
Now, she had set her sights beyond the national level, participating in world tournaments and often competing abroad, apparently with great results.
With such achievements, it was no exaggeration to call her a prodigious young swordswoman.
The only unfortunate thing was her dislike for the spotlight. Aside from basic competition photos and official news, there was almost no other information about her.
"Brother Chong, what’s the name of the Swordsmanship Club’s captain? I remember it was a pretty rare surname, what was it..."
"Ning Yu!"
Chen Chong blurted it out. It wasn’t that he paid special attention; the name was just so unique that he had remembered it instantly.
"Oh, right, that’s the name! Speaking of which, why didn’t we see her just now? Maybe she’s not staying here?"
"I don’t know. Why don’t you go ask?"
Xu Jun quickly shook his head. "No way, I wouldn’t dare. Even though this Ning Yu is beautiful, she’s rumored to have a bad temper. The photo of that talent scout running out of the school gates with his ass bare is still floating around the school forums. I don’t want to end up like him."
Chen Chong laughed. "Stop thinking about all that nonsense. In any case, the Swordsmanship Club had the same idea as us. They’ve definitely moved in and become our neighbors."
"If it were any other club, I might be a little worried, but the Swordsmanship Club has a pretty good reputation. As long as we don’t bother them, they won’t bother us."
Chen Chong remembered seeing news about the Swordsmanship Club several times.
It was news about them donating their competition winnings to poor mountainous regions to help fund the education of the children there.
And it wasn’t a one-time thing. They had apparently been doing it for several years, with total donations reaching over a million, all given freely.
If it were anyone else, Chen Chong might suspect them of putting on a show.
But given Ning Yu’s aversion to the spotlight and the fact that the entire Swordsmanship Club frequently participated in charitable activities, the possibility of it being a publicity stunt was almost zero.
They were simply giving back to society and doing some charity work...
The small interlude quickly passed, and Chen Chong and Xu Jun started processing the deer meat.
The four of them sat on the balcony, lifting the salted meat out of a basin to air-dry while lighting a wood fire to smoke it...
「Three hours later.」
It was now evening. On the balcony, Xu Jun and Jia Wen sat watching the fire, smoking the meat.
Chen Chong and Wang Biao were resting on the sofa. After being smoked out for several hours, both of them were a little dazed.
"Good thing this balcony is so big, or we wouldn’t have been able to smoke this meat. Speaking of which, our living room keeps getting bigger. It’s almost the size of a basketball court..."
Looking at the living room, which was now completely different from how it started, Chen Chong felt a little disoriented for a moment.
Since they got back, Xu Jun had used the two Farmland Cards and the Vacant Land Card he had.
The C-Class Vacant Land Card added a full 50 square meters, making the living room much larger.
The living room alone now measured over a hundred square meters. The apartment’s original furnishings, like the sofa and TV, now seemed to be floating in an empty space.
Fortunately, the addition of two other farmland plots, totaling 10 square meters, helped fill it in. The three Farmland plots, lined up by the kitchen entrance and enclosed by a wooden fence, kept the area from looking too barren.
Chen Chong had also used his Spring Card. He didn’t put it in one of the rooms; considering everyone would need water, he placed it in the corner just outside the bathroom.
A large stone, half a meter tall with a hollowed-out basin on one side of its top, appeared before them.
At the very top of the stone, a spring the size of half a fist bubbled with water, which flowed continuously into the basin.
It would stop when the basin was full and start bubbling again once water was taken out, repeating the cycle until the daily limit was exhausted.
Chen Chong had tested it. The spring could produce about five or six plastic buckets of water a day, which came out to around fifty liters.
This wasn’t a small amount; it was more than enough for a full day of drinking and other uses.
If they could get a higher-grade spring in the future, the water output would probably be even greater.
The Fog Fruit had also been successfully transplanted into Xu Jun’s farmland. So far, it seemed to be doing fine.
This was the first plant they had ever transplanted, so they were all paying close attention to it. Xu Jun had even suggested fertilizing it and was about to drop his pants on the spot.
If Chen Chong hadn’t stopped him, the guy would’ve let loose.
This was the living room, after all. If he had actually done it, the smell would have been unimaginable.
Besides, the Farmland Card automatically provided all the necessary nutrients, soil fertility, and sunlight for the plants. There was no need for any other intervention.
As long as it could survive, it would thrive.
Wang Biao had also set his traps in the jungle during the day. They would just have to see if there was any catch tomorrow.
Just as Chen Chong was thinking that the day’s tasks were more or less complete and planning to take a shower and get some rest after the last batch of meat was done smoking, there was a knock on the door...
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK...
