Chapter 36: Chapter 34: Perverted Dugu Hao, Transplanting the Fog Fruit

Chen Chong’s group of four left the school through the main gate.

Four to five hundred people were lining up on the high platform to sign up, and Sima, beaming from ear to ear, was swamped along with the other members of the Survival Association.

The remaining few hundred people who weren’t interested in joining the Survival Association either left one after another or stayed to watch the excitement.

Among them, some figures stared at the Survival Association with unconcealed hostility.

They were either members of rival clubs or students who disliked Sima.

But in a corner, a short, dark, and scrawny young man dressed in simple clothes, with a somewhat creepy-looking face, had a strange glint in his eyes.

His name was Dugu Hao. It was a very cool-sounding name, but he himself was exceedingly mediocre.

He had almost no presence at school, with no friends or acquaintances.

Unlike the others who were hostile toward the Survival Association, there was no animosity in his eyes. Instead, they held deep envy and longing.

Dugu Hao had no intention of joining the Survival Association, or he would have gone over with the others long ago.

The reason he was reluctant to leave and showed such an expression was purely because the existence of the Survival Association’s leader, Sima, was the version of himself he imagined he should be.

For all of his twenty years, he had been constantly plagued by insecurity over his appearance.

He was also utterly disgusted with his impoverished family and his disabled parents.

Why?

’Why can’t I be tall and handsome, a rich second-generation heir?’

’Why can’t I be surrounded by beautiful girls?’

’Be flattered by guys my own age?’

’Why can’t I do whatever I want?’

He had fantasized countless times about a girl confessing her feelings for him.

But growing up, forget about dating—he’d never even gotten a proper look from the girls in his class.

All he ever got were looks of disgust as they held their noses.

He felt inferior, helpless, and angry... until it turned to hatred!

He hated his parents, his family, his teachers, his classmates, even random passersby. He hated everything!

He wanted revenge, but he lacked the courage of a common man who would spill blood in a fit of rage.

He thought his life would just be like this forever, but then he encountered something like transmigration.

At first, he was like most of the other students.

He was afraid and lost, waking from nightmares and trembling in fear of the Extraordinary Creatures in the jungle.

He was terrified that he would die any day.

That was until last night when he found two unique Cards in a row, plus another Card from this morning’s C+ rating settlement.

All of this made him realize that perhaps this world was the one that truly belonged to him. It was all destined to be.

"Hehehe..."

Looking at the newly forged axe in his hand, a morbid smile spread across Dugu Hao’s face.

’If it weren’t for those three Cards, I never would have had the courage to trade the two boxes of food I’d hidden for tools.’

All these tools were meant to serve those three Cards, to make them bring him even greater benefits.

Dugu Hao looked back at the Survival Association on the high platform—or rather, at the high-spirited Sima.

It was as if he were speaking to him, yet also talking to himself.

"Everything in this school isn’t yours, and it’s not theirs. It belongs to me."

"Just you wait. I’ll make everyone look up to me, make them all kneel at my feet in submission. Everything I once dreamed of will become reality."

"All the men will be my slaves, and all the women will..."

Dugu Hao walked away with a sinister smile, followed by two middle-aged men in ill-fitting clothes.

One was stocky with solid arm muscles, his skin covered in large and small scars from healed burns.

The other was tall and thin with rough, dark-gray skin, and a bone ring pierced through his nose, characteristic of a primitive tribe.

The three of them disappeared from the corner of the square, as if they had never been there at all...

...

THWACK!

A fruit fell from a tree, a dagger embedded squarely in its center.

"Such a precise throw! You hit the target in less than ten tries. My lord, your talent for throwing things far surpasses my own!"

Wang Biao, his face full of amazement, clapped from the side while carrying a large bundle of firewood on his back.

Xu Jun, holding a bundle of firewood in one hand, picked up the dagger with the other and said, "Not bad, Brother Chong. You could use that as a hidden weapon. I don’t have much talent for throwing knives..."

"My lord need not be discouraged. Wen can teach you how to use a knife. Perhaps my lord has a talent for it."

Jia Wen said comfortingly, waving his feather fan. He too was carrying a large bundle of firewood on his back.

Taking the dagger, Chen Chong smiled. "I wouldn’t say I’m talented. It took me over ten tries to hit it once. The success rate is too low."

Wang Biao quickly interjected, "My lord, that’s not true! A skill like this just comes down to practice makes perfect."

"At this distance, it’s already impressive for an ordinary person to land one perfect hit in a hundred tries. Your talent, my lord, is exceptional. With more practice, you’ll surely hit your mark every time in the future!"

"Alright, I’ll practice more when we get back. It’ll be a useful little trick to have."

Chen Chong didn’t continue to be modest. Instead, he picked up the backpack filled with soil...

Their trip today had been smooth, with no unexpected incidents.

After half a day, they had found everything mentioned in the two intelligence reports.

The item 1,000 meters to the east mentioned in the C-Class intelligence report was, as expected, a Card.

And it was a C-Class Building Card: Spring!

The function of this Building Card was simple: it produced a certain amount of clean spring water every day, which was fine for both drinking and other uses.

Although they had the large fishpond, it was still just a fishpond. The water was usable, but it couldn’t compare to spring water.

If they started raising fish in the future, the water quality would drop significantly.

Chen Chong was quite happy to have obtained the Spring Card.

At least he wouldn’t have to worry about water anymore. He would have a constant supply without even leaving his home.

As for the edible Fog Fruits mentioned in the D-Class intelligence, they had found those as well.

It was a wild fruit that looked like an apple but tasted like a pear.

Besides the cloud-like patterns on its skin, it didn’t seem to have any other special features.

The entire vine was very short, less than half a meter long, but its yield was astonishing. There were at least twenty fruits hanging from its short branches.

After seeing the yield and size of the Fog Fruits, Chen Chong changed his plan on the spot. Instead of just picking the fruit, he dug up the entire plant, soil and all.

He packed it into the bag he had brought along, intending to take it back and see if he could plant it in the farmland.

If it could survive and be cultivated, he might be able to grow a whole patch of Fog Fruits, adding another food source to his reserves.

Coincidentally, the Cards Xu Jun had received from the settlement at dawn today included two Farmland Cards and a Vacant Land Card, which he hadn’t had a chance to use yet and was still holding onto.

There was no need to worry about not having enough farmland...

The only regret was that after wandering the jungle for half a day, they hadn’t seen any prey, so Wang Biao, who had just gotten a wooden bow, didn’t have a chance to show off his skills.

But it didn’t matter. Today’s mission wasn’t hunting anyway.

They had come out mainly to get the items mentioned in the intelligence reports and to gather a batch of firewood for smoking meat. Everything else was secondary.

Worried the meat would spoil in the hot weather, the four of them didn’t dare to delay. After practicing with the throwing knife for a bit, they hurried back toward the school...

Soon, the four of them arrived on the seventh floor of the faculty apartment building.

The moment they got there, Chen Chong and Xu Jun, who were walking in front, froze.

The seventh floor, which had only ever had one occupied apartment—theirs—now had two other doors standing open...
