Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Primitive Jungle, River Behemoth

’Was that tremor just now really an earthquake?’

’Or was it something else...’

"Brother Chong, say something! You haven’t said a word since you got back. You weren’t scared stiff, were you?" Having finished dressing, Xu Jun waved a hand in front of Chen Chong’s face.

"Get lost!"

Chen Chong was speechless. ’How can he still be in the mood to joke at a time like this?’

’If we’ve really been transported, how are we supposed to survive in this unknown Primitive Jungle?’

’This isn’t a city. In this world, no food means you actually die.’

’Hunger makes people lose their minds, makes them... become less than human.’

This was something Chen Chong, who had experienced hardship as a child, understood all too well...

"Ah Jun, how much food do we have left?"

University wasn’t like high school. After four years, many classmates might not even know each other’s names. It was only because they were roommates and had compatible personalities that Xu Jun could be considered Chen Chong’s only truly close friend at the school.

Of course, the same was true for Xu Jun.

The dorm room was a quad, but this was university—the rules were lax, and you could leave whenever you wanted.

The other two roommates, with whom they weren’t particularly close, weren’t in the dorm tonight and had thus avoided being transported.

It was probably the same for most dorm rooms; he guessed not a single one was at full capacity.

"There’s a case of instant noodles, half a box of small bread rolls, two bags of ham sausages, and oh, a few bottles of yogurt and mineral water."

Because they liked to stay up late playing games in their dorm, the two of them usually stocked up on instant food and kept it in their cabinet.

Chen Chong fell silent. It sounded like a lot, but in reality, it wouldn’t even last the two of them a week if they ate normally.

"We have to find another way. Lock this up in the cabinet. Let’s go take a look outside."

"Alright." Xu Jun wasn’t an idiot. He quickly understood what worried Chen Chong, locked up the food, and went out with him.

After a moment’s thought before leaving, he also grabbed the metal clothes-drying pole from the balcony.

As soon as they stepped out of their room, they saw the hallway was crowded with people—all students from this floor. Every face was filled with panic and confusion, and the overlapping conversations created a cacophony.

"Why did our school suddenly appear in a primitive forest? Where the hell are we? I can’t get a signal to call for help!"

"This place is definitely not normal. You didn’t see it, but a pack of wolves actually stood up and ran on two legs! I almost pissed my pants!"

"Don’t tell me we’ve all been transported? Is this some kind of other world?"

"Mom, I want my mom..."

Some were discussing and analyzing the situation, others were chatting idly as if they didn’t have a care in the world, and some had broken down completely, crying out loud on the spot.

The scene was chaotic, and this was just one floor.

Scenes like this were probably unfolding all over the school. He figured it was probably even worse over at the girls’ dorms...

Just then, a rather well-built, crew-cut boy wearing a black short-sleeved shirt walked out and stood up on a stool.

"Everyone, quiet down and listen to me! I’m a member of the student council and the floor leader for this level. My name is Du Ming."

Du Ming’s voice was loud and clear, instantly grabbing everyone’s attention. Even Chen Chong and Xu Jun, who had just left their room, turned to look at him.

"Our school has been brought to this Primitive Jungle by some mysterious force. I know everyone is panicking, but our priority right now is to understand our surroundings. If we’ve really been transported, then as students living on the same dorm floor, we must help each other. That’s the only way we’ll have a greater chance of survival."

Du Ming sounded sincere, and his words were logical and well-reasoned. The part about helping each other, in particular, made many people’s eyes light up. They all fell silent and stared at him.

"I believe there are three things we need to do right now!" Seeing everyone’s eyes on him, Du Ming rejoiced inwardly and held up three fingers.

"First, we need a headcount of everyone on this floor to make future actions and arrangements easier. Second, we need to scout the jungle, not too far, just within a few hundred meters. Third, we need to collect all the food and drinking water from every dorm room, and then pool it all together..."

Hearing this, Chen Chong clapped Xu Jun on the shoulder and turned to leave without the slightest hesitation.

He’d thought that this Du Ming guy might have some brilliant insight for their current situation. Sticking with a large group was naturally safer than moving around as a pair.

’The first two points were fine, but you’d have to have been kicked in the head by a donkey to agree to the third.’

’He and Xu Jun had a habit of stockpiling things, which was why they had about two cases of food. Very few others had this habit, especially guys who tended to just eat whatever was available.’

’Even if they did, it would be a few packs of instant noodles and snacks at most. Most of them probably couldn’t even produce a single bag of spicy gluten strips.’

’Hand it over?’

’What he and Xu Jun had could last them a week, but if they shared it, it probably wouldn’t even last a single day.’

’Besides, if they handed over their things, Du Ming would get all the credit. Everyone would remember his generosity, but who would care where the supplies actually came from?’

Chen Chong didn’t care if this Du Ming was genuinely thinking of everyone’s welfare or just trying to use supplies to win people over. He only had one thought on the matter...

’Just don’t touch my stuff!’

Standing on his perch, Du Ming noticed Chen Chong and Xu Jun turn and leave. Though he continued speaking with the same expression, a shadow of gloom flickered in the depths of his eyes...

Downstairs, the back door had been opened again.

The Overlord Wolf from before was nowhere to be seen.

A good number of students had gathered here, from various floors and different dorm buildings.

Dozens of students stood within the walls, nervously peering outside, as if hesitating about whether to leave.

A few of the braver students, carrying clubs and iron pipes they had scrounged from who-knows-where, tentatively stepped outside.

Once a few had led the way, more and more people followed them out the back door.

"Looks like the Overlord Wolf from earlier is gone. Let’s go out too."
