Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Primitive Jungle, Giant in the River

September. The height of summer.

Even at night, waves of heat permeated the air.

At four in the morning, most students at Tian Nan University were fast asleep.

"I don’t wanna be a scrub... I wanna be a pro..."

Xu Jun mumbled in his sleep.

But Chen Chong couldn’t sleep. The broken fan turned the dorm room into an oven.

It wasn’t just the suffocating physical heat; a sense of unease was nagging at him too.

’Why do I have such a bad feeling?’

He muttered to himself. ’Could it just be because it’s so unbearably hot?’

Without giving it much more thought, Chen Chong rolled over to a cooler spot on his mattress, trying to coax sleep to come.

At that very moment.

A violent tremor struck without any warning.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The sound of metal bed frames crashing against each other rang out as the entire dorm room shook violently.

Chen Chong’s eyes flew open, and he shot up in bed.

"An earthquake? Ah Jun, wake up! If you keep sleeping, you’re gonna die!"

He quickly scrambled out of bed and reached for Xu Jun on the opposite top bunk.

Seeing the guy was sleeping like a log, Chen Chong didn’t hesitate. He leaped up and slapped him across the face.

Xu Jun woke up.

Without even stopping to put on clothes, he groggily followed Chen Chong and ran outside.

They weren’t the only two students fleeing down the hallway. Students from every room swarmed out, moving at incredible speeds, like wild dogs let off their leashes.

They were all just in their boxers, but hey, you can’t say they weren’t fast...

The men’s dorms at Tian Nan University were on the east side of campus, near the back gate. Behind them was a vast, open plot of construction wasteland.

Compared to the other dorms and tall art buildings in front, running this way was clearly the safer option.

Almost all the male students instinctively ran for the back gate.

The earthquake came and went quickly, stopping in less than a minute.

The crowd of male students huddled outside the back gate was stunned...

Beyond the back gate, towering trees scraped the sky. Unfamiliar shrubs rose past their knees. Sunlight, dappled by the leaves, was a bit blinding. A gentle breeze and the chirping of insects echoed through the air. In this endless sea of green, it felt like being in a natural oxygen bar, a place that could soothe the soul.

But no one could relax. Instead, a sense of dread crept into their hearts.

’This isn’t right, is it?’

’Wasn’t there supposed to be a wasteland outside the back gate? Where did this forest come from?’

’And also, isn’t it the middle of the night?’

Several hundred people crammed by the back gate, staring blankly at one another, completely baffled by the situation...

The same was true for ninety-nine percent of the guys present; every one of them had snuck out this way at some point.

Now, with an endless Primitive Jungle suddenly appearing, anyone familiar with the place would be utterly confused.

Just as everyone was standing there in a daze...

A wolf’s howl echoed from nearby, and everyone turned toward the sound.

The bushes rustled, and a wolf walked out from within them.

That’s right, it "walked" out.

The kind that walks upright on two legs.

The already baffled university students became even more so at this sight, their mouths hanging open wide enough to drool.

Then a second, a third... until seven wolves had emerged.

Following their pack leader, they stood in place, noses twitching as if searching for something.

These seven wolves didn’t look much different from the wolves people were familiar with—like grayer-colored huskies, only bigger. Their hind legs were more powerful, and their forelimbs were shorter and smaller, almost decorative.

Their posture was identical to that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

They were practically Overlord Wolves!

At the same time, the wolf pack spotted the students.

It was hard to say whether the wall blocked their view of most of the students, preventing them from seeing the massive disparity in numbers, or if these strange creatures were just naturally ferocious and fearless.

After sizing them up for a moment, they actually started sprinting in their direction.

"HOLY SHIT!!!"

A guy in Patrick Star boxers screamed in terror, pushed through the crowd, and was the first to run.

His cry snapped the dazed crowd back to their senses, and screams erupted one after another.

A group of hot-blooded college students in their twenties, the kind who would dare to yell at a murderer, were now scared shitless, scrambling and stumbling back into the dorms.

The last time they’d been this scared of seven wolves was back when they were kids...

Thankfully, a few quick-thinking students had managed to shakily lock the back gate before they fled.

In less than half a minute, the area by the back gate was empty, save for a few scattered flip-flops on the ground.

"Fuck!"

Back in the dorm, Xu Jun spoke as he threw on his clothes, "We’ve been transported to another world, right? Wolves that run on two legs—are those even Earth creatures?"

Chen Chong, who had been fiddling with his phone for a while, fell silent as he stared out the window.

His phone showed it was only 5 a.m. This proved his earlier feeling had been right—he hadn’t fallen back asleep. The world outside had changed after the earthquake, shifting abruptly from night to day.

Furthermore, there was no signal and no internet. It was impossible to contact the outside world.

If nothing else, this proved it. They had really been transported to another world.

He could at least be sure this wasn’t Earth. It wasn’t just the time difference; the Overlord Wolves they had seen earlier were definitely not any normal animals he knew of.
