Chapter 3: Chapter 1: Primitive Jungle, Colossus in the River

Chen Chong stepped out, holding a laundry pole from their dorm room. Xu Jun carried a Fire Axe, its wooden handle painted red and its iron blade gleaming silver.

Chen Chong had swiped the Fire Axe from the hallway. While everyone else was listening to Du Ming’s speech, he had taken the opportunity to grab the unnoticed weapon.

Considering Xu Jun was sturdier and stronger than he was, he had given him the Fire Axe, opting to use the long-reaching laundry pole himself.

And this laundry pole was not to be underestimated.

It wasn’t the common kind, made of flimsy aluminum that would dent with a squeeze, but was actually made of iron.

Though it was just sheet iron, it was far sturdier than a typical wooden club, making it a very serviceable weapon.

After entering the jungle, all they could see were towering trees and nameless weeds and shrubs.

Thick moss clung to many of the tree trunks, making them look ancient and creating a powerful, primeval scene.

"This place is so primitive..."

Chen Chong pushed aside the undergrowth with his laundry pole as he moved forward.

Xu Jun followed behind with the Fire Axe, looking ready to bring it down on any snake that might appear.

The two of them were on edge at first, but as time went on and nothing unusual happened, they started to relax.

"There’s a river... a huge one..."

Faintly, they both heard a sound drifting from the distance.

They exchanged a glance and, without hesitating, changed direction and headed toward the sound.

After walking for several minutes, they pushed aside a patch of waist-high bushes and saw a large river at the bottom of a low slope.

Chen Chong was surprised. "How could we not have seen such a big river before?"

"Yeah," Xu Jun said, equally amazed. "We didn’t hear a single sound. This river is too quiet."

They had arrived late. At least twenty other people were already gathered by the riverbank, looking on with curiosity.

The length of the river was impossible to tell, but it was at least seventy to eighty meters wide. Since the current was slow and there were no rapids, the water was almost silent unless you were right beside it.

Coupled with the fact that it was in a low-lying area, surrounded by countless waist-high shrubs and grasses, it was difficult to spot unless one came right to the edge of the dense woods.

"Brother Chong, someone’s getting in the water!"

Xu Jun quickly pointed ahead, a look of shock on his face.

Chen Chong’s brow furrowed. ’He couldn’t believe someone was reckless enough to jump into the water right after arriving here.’

’Did they really think this was just some ordinary jungle?’

Ahead, two male students had waded into the shallows and were now swimming farther out, shrugging off their clothes as they went.

As they swam, they shouted excitedly, "This is so refreshing! It feels amazing, even better than a swimming pool!"

This new world wasn’t excessively hot; the weather was like a pleasant April or May day.

However, trekking through the jungle and brushing against all the plants had left everyone feeling hot, sticky, and itchy, creating an unbearable urge to take a dip in some cool water.

To be honest, if he hadn’t known they were in a different world, even Chen Chong would have been tempted to jump in for a swim to cool off.

But the thought of this unfamiliar Primitive Jungle and the recent appearance of a bizarre beast like the Overlord Wolf gave him pause. ’Who knows if there’s some kind of monstrous "Overlord Fish" in the water,’ he thought, and immediately crushed the impulse.
