Chapter 1030: Chapter 1030: The Resolve to Save
"The Agent of Force—Mars gains ATK equal to our LP difference!"
Kira smiled.
"I have 15,900 LP; you have 3,000.
Mars’s ATK is now..."
Paradox’s mouth twitched.
Are you kidding me?
[The Agent of Force—Mars, ATK 12,900]
Twelve thousand nine hundred attack!
Paradox was stunned.
He’d always boasted of his Malefic deck’s overwhelming power—its only real feature was effortlessly summoning monsters with 4000–5000 ATK with almost no cost. Each was a legendary spirit from their era, boosting the duelist’s strength.
Yet here, in what should be his domain—pure power—someone had so easily summoned a monster that crushed his, making his proud Malefics look like small fry.
And Kira was unfazed.
Just standard procedure, nothing to get excited about.
Paradox was such an unimpressive boss. Even in the anime, when he was defeated by three generations of Duel Kings, he screamed in shock at a monster with 10,000 ATK. He was the first boss to challenge all three "Jellyfish Heads" at once, yet he lost his cool over a mere five-digit beater.
"Mars, attack Malefic Cyber End Dragon!"
Kira waved his hand.
Mars, now powered by his massive LP, soared into the sky, wings spread, hammer swelling to enormous size.
An immense shadow cast down as the hammer fell like a mountain. Even the giant Cyber End Dragon looked like an ant under its might.
"Kira’s won!"
Mokuba called out.
Even if Dimension Guardian protected End Dragon from destruction, the battle damage would still be calculated. One hit and it’d be over.
"Don’t be ridiculous," Paradox roared.
"Activate face-down: Trap Card ’Iron Resolve!’
Pay half my LP; all battle damage I take this turn becomes zero, and the Battle Phase ends!" (Anime effect)
A barrier nullified the damage. End Dragon was protected behind a transparent shield, letting out a low, metallic growl.
[Paradox, LP 3000 → LP 1500]
"Ugh."
Paying half his remaining LP felt like his life force was being drained. Paradox slumped to one knee, weakened.
He was shocked.
By rights, with Malefic World destroyed, the real damage conversion of the duel should’ve ended. He’d used technology to simulate a Shadow Game, but the key was the field card "Malefic World."
That card acted as the boundary for the Shadow Game. In a true Shadow Game, only a stronger darkness could break the barrier, but Malefic World’s barrier would break if the field spell was destroyed.
Yet even with Malefic World gone, he still felt the pain of losing LP.
He glared at Kira.
"So you’re a Shadow Game user?" he said.
Kira smiled, "I thought you people from the future knew everything."
Paradox said nothing.
He actually knew little about this Duel King. All his info came from public records, not from history.
Defeated Kaiba Seto, saved the world multiple times, led modern Duel Monsters development, and now apparently used dark powers, too...
From Paradox’s view, this was someone who simply "could not be allowed to live."
"My turn’s over," Kira smiled. "What’s wrong, tired?"
Paradox gave a bitter laugh from his knees.
"Tired? Maybe. I’ve been tired for a long time. But..."
He opened his eyes, a surge of force erupting from him.
"What I carry...is beyond your imagination!
I can’t lose, I must win, no matter what kind of opponent—
I must create a world of hope.
My turn! Draw!"
He looked at his hand, gritted his teeth.
With a 12,900 ATK Mars on the field, even keeping End Dragon alive was pointless—its 4000 ATK was nothing now.
Try attacking Marshmallon for piercing damage?
Impossible. Not only did Kira have nearly 16,000 LP, Marshmallon was also a Fairy, and with Sanctuary in the Sky, all battle damage to Kira from Fairies was zero.
Nothing in hand could turn it around. He could only set End Dragon to defense and hope for no spell/trap removal next turn. Otherwise, he was finished.
No, that wouldn’t do.
Paradox crushed that thought.
To turtle up, hoping the opponent had no removal, wasn’t his way. He carried the hope of the world and the future, and returned to the past with resolve—he couldn’t falter now.
"Activate Spell Card ’Advance Draw!’" Paradox announced. "Tribute a Level 8 or higher monster on my field to draw two cards!
I tribute ’Malefic Cyber End Dragon’ and draw two!"
The giant End Dragon turned to particles and was absorbed into his deck. Paradox drew two cards.
Mokuba was surprised.
"He actually sacrificed such a powerful monster just for a chance to draw?"
