Chapter 1102: Chapter 1102: You Promised Me
Zhou Chengchen’s attention was entirely on the piece she was playing, momentarily ignoring the reactions of those around her. She had only one thought: from the first note to the last, she had to be perfect, because Xi Siyan had encouraged her with a "good luck". Ah, her Xi Siyan.
In the corner, Xi Siyan watched the slender back of the girl seated on the piano bench, his thin lips involuntarily pressing together.
The Moonlight Sonata she played had an added hint of joy compared to what he remembered. It wasn’t as soothing, but every note resonated with his nerves.
Soon, Zhou Chengchen struck the final note. After a brief moment of stunned silence, the audience erupted into applause.
Zhou Chengchen stood up, her gaze straightforwardly landing on Xi Siyan. She saw Xi Siyan smile at her, and in that moment, it was as if all the chaotic noises around her had vanished. In her eyes, there was only him, only him alone.
By the end of the evening, it was already past ten. Zhou Chengchen had changed her clothes and walked up to Xi Siyan, her eyes bright and clear: "Xi, how do you think I played?"
"Not bad!"
Zhou Chengchen pouted: "I practiced for so long, and it’s just ’not bad’."
Xi Siyan didn’t respond. Zhou Chengchen felt a bit frustrated, but quickly put on a smile again: "Xi, are you heading home? It’s so dark, let’s walk together."
After a moment’s thought, she added: "I’m afraid of the dark."
Out of Zhou Chengchen’s sight, the corner of Xi Siyan’s mouth twitched. She was afraid of the dark?
Nonsense!
But looking at her bright eyes and recalling how she looked while playing the piano tonight, Xi Siyan pressed his lips and couldn’t refuse. He nodded: "Okay."
The two of them walked out of the school together. No. 1 High School was very large, so you had to run to get to the small supermarket or physical education class during breaks. Zhou Chengchen had complained about this countless times, but now she wished the campus were even larger and never-ending.
But no matter how large the campus was, it was still limited. Soon, they reached the school gate. Zhou Chengchen immediately spotted the driver waiting by the roadside, but she didn’t want to part with Xi Siyan just yet.
After all, tomorrow was the weekend.
Suddenly, Zhou Chengchen remembered something and tugged on Xi Siyan’s sleeve.
Xi Siyan turned to look at her: "Hmm?"
Zhou Chengchen grinned: "Xi, do you remember you promised me one thing? No backing out."
"What do you want to say?"
"Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, let’s go on a date... oh no, let’s go to the amusement park."
Xi Siyan instinctively frowned and was about to refuse, but then Zhou Chengchen tugged on his sleeve a bit more, with a hint of coquettishness: "You promised me."
His heart inexplicably softened, and before Xi Siyan realized it, he had already nodded.
Zhou Chengchen’s smile grew even brighter: "Then it’s settled. Tomorrow at ten in the morning, we’ll meet at the entrance of Joy Valley."
After saying this, Zhou Chengchen, as if afraid he might go back on his word, quickly ran off.
Xi Siyan’s brow furrowed again.
Amusement park?
He hadn’t been to one before.
As he walked slowly back along the street, he returned to his shabby little house.
Xi Siyan was very grateful to Mrs. Li. Though the place was shabby and old, and not his own house, at least for now, it was his, his alone. He didn’t have to feel constrained like he did at the Li Family, nor did he have to endure their cold and mocking stares.
Xi Siyan sat on a chair for a while, then went to take a shower.
