Chapter 1461: Dorm Room Arrangements

The dorm room was relatively simple in design.

It was basically two bunk beds on either side of the room with a shared long table in the centre of the room to act as a study desk. There were lockers on either side of the bunk beds which I presume were used as storage for each student that was occupying the room.

There was a large window at the back of the room which was big enough for me to climb through if I wanted to.

The floor above mine was the rooftop and it seems like we could do our laundry there and leave it to dry so that’s actually good for us since we would be close to that as well.

I wonder how the students from nobility might handle this because this room was clearly several steps down from what they were used to. Were there better options or are they just expected to suck it up and deal with it?

Well... At least I’m not that bothered by it for now...

I cradle my egg and wonder who my roommates might be while wondering where the person with the final pendant might be.

That’s right, I haven’t forgotten, we came rushing here because there was still one more person who has the pendant that the demons have given them in order to open a portal to try and summon the demon lord.

If I’m not wrong, this person had arrived at the Aerialla Academy before us so they should be here right now in fact. Maybe they were in this building right now as well.

The only problem is that I don’t even know where to start looking. Do I just go up to every door and knock on them to ask if there was someone who has some kind of pendant that was given to them by some shady Infrid looking demons?

I’m pretty sure even if there was, the person would just deny it.

On another note... This dorm was mixed so there was no segregation according to the person’s sex. Which also means I could get males as my roommates as well.

For now, I decided to try and figure out whether someone might have seen it by going back down to the ground floor to find Kaitlyn, the Rizzie.

I found her floating around the entrance, no doubt there to welcome the rest of the students who would no doubt show up later in the day.

I went over to her and she noticed me almost immediately when I stepped out of the building.

"Ah! Hello Aster! Did you need something?" She asked, flying over to me.

"Ah, yes. I was wondering... Just wondering, really... Did you see someone here who might have a pendant that looked like this?"

I brought out a piece of paper with the drawing of the pendant which I had Minnera draw for me as a way to identify it while we were in the Academy.

The Dorm Supervisor fluttered over to look at the drawing I presented to her and she seemed to think about it for a long moment before she turned to shake her head at me.

"Mmm... I’m afraid I have never seen this pendant before Aster. Is it something that belongs to you?"

"Not really. There’s someone I want to find here and my only clue is that they have this pendant on them," I half lied, figuring it would be better than telling her that this was a pendant to summon demons.

I figured that I should leave that to someone like Cecilia or maybe even the Grand Chancellor instead, assuming I meet them.

Katilyn looked up at me with a big smile and did another spin around me, "Ohhh~ Don’t worry, Aster!! I’ll keep an eye out for them! If I find a pendant like that, I’ll let you know! Oh! And how was the room? Was it to your liking? If you want, you can still ask to change rooms if you find any problems with it!"

"Umm... The room will suffice. Although I would like to ask... Is it really alright?"

She tilted her head at me, "Hmmm? What do you mean?"

"I mean... I’m fine with the room, honestly. But I suspect that there might be several students who are nobles who might find it uncomfortable to stay in a room like that and even share it with three other people, right? What’s more... There’s also the chance that there might be people of a different gender sharing a room with them... Would that be alright?"

She gasped, "Oh my! Oh my, oh my! It seems I have made a blunder, Aster! Did you want to be put in a single sex room? I can make your room to only have futanari roommates if you want?"

I blinked at her, "You can do that?"

She nodded, "While the entire dormitory is not segregated, we can set rooms to be single sex as well since we know some people might not be comfortable with it. Ah, and the question about the nobles.... That’s what we want to foster here, where their nobility outside of the school means nothing and only their achievements here matter. If they want better amenities, they have to work for it~"

I blinked again, "So... Could I just have a room where my roommates are either females or futanaris?"

She nodded enthusiastically, "Oh, of course! I can set it such that only people who are fine with staying with either females of futanaris will be assigned to that room! You don’t need to worry about it!"

"Is that also extended to other students as well or is this limited to only Special Class students?"

She giggled, "Ehehehe~ You are worried about your friends, right? Don’t worry, it extends to everyone so there won’t be a case of someone needing to room with a sex they would not want to be in the same room with. We have more than enough rooms to accommodate everyone after all."

"How many people can fit inside this building?"

"Mmm... At max capacity? This building can hold around thirty thousand students~"

I paused and stared at the Rizzie smiling at me, who had stated that fact easily like she had just told me about the weather today.

"Thi... Thirty thousand?" I asked, turning back to look at the building behind me, only to just realise how massive it was.

"Mmhmm~ That’s right~ Though we usually never have more than twenty thousand at a time though. Most we’ve had was this one year with twenty two thousand students."

I then shifted my gaze to the other buildings around which were smaller in size than the one behind me which, if I am not wrong, were supposed to house the senior students.

She seemed to have read my mind because she let out a giggle, "Ehehehe~ Not all students will advance to the next year, Aster. There will be dropouts every year, so there’s no need for the senior dormitories to be built to house as many people as the previous one. That allows for more space and more luxuries."

Ah... I see now... Which is why each building got smaller and smaller and also more and more luxurious.

This wasn’t some escalator school where the students are automatically moved up to the next year once they completed the year’s syllabus... If you are not considered qualified enough, you would be forced to drop out of the school.

"What happens when someone drops out then? Could they come back?"

She giggled, "Ehehe~ You would have to come back as a first year student of course. And you will be treated as such~"

"Wait... So even if I go up to a fifth year student... If I ended up dropping out and enrol into the Academy again, I will have to go back to being a first year student?"

"That’s right~"

"Isn’t that like... A little unfair or something? It’s kind of wasting the student’s time, isn’t it?"

"Ehehe~ Aster, Aerialla Academy does not owe anyone success here. Success is to be claimed by the students themselves. What the Academy can provide is the environment to help the student achieve that success. Whether they can actually do it or not is entirely dependent on them. If they end up failing, it is either because they were simply not good enough or they did not try hard enough."

Ok... That’s definitely a little harsh but understandable. This was supposed to be a place of excellence, not mediocrity. Only the ones who excel will be able to pass to the next level and those who aren’t able to keep up will just be left behind.

This is just a rule of this World since being accepting of mediocrity can actually get you killed here.

If you are facing a monster inside the Dungeon or even just experimenting on magic within the Academy... If you allow someone mediocre to cover for you and was only allowed to be there out of pity, it could cause everyone else to lose their lives.

Well... The good news is that I don’t think this would ever be a problem for my girls at the very least so I don’t need to worry about any of them dropping out, especially since I honestly believe all of them were well beyond the normal standards of a normal student here anyway.

The bad news is I worry that I might grow attached to some friends I make here and they end up dropping out...

Oh well... It is what it is.
