Chapter 1460: The First Year Dorms
I was on my own since my girls had to go through their own enrolment process to be admitted officially as students so I went ahead to the dorms first.
I was given a map which showed me the layout of the academy and I didn’t really understand how big it was until I laid my eyes on the map.
This place was huge and I think it might even be bigger in size than all the other cities I’ve visited so far with the exception of Crown Capital City itself.
The main island was rather circular in shape and almost the entire island was taken up to build the Academy on top of it.
I also realised that the small island that we had been dropped off, which was known as the Aerial Docks on the map, wasn’t the only island that had bridges connected to it as there were several other islands that also had a bridge built to connect them to the main island.
Past the bridge that we had just crossed was a checkpoint and processing area where visitors can stay or get permits to enter the city. It is also where new students are processed so the only people that are allowed past the checkpoint are people who are already approved to be inside it.
Just past the checkpoint was a large defensive wall that, according to the map, surrounded the entire outer perimeter of the main island to encapsulate the city behind it.
Towers jutted out from the wall at regular intervals and I believe each of those towers housed magic artillery just like the ones we saw in Anam City.
Moving past the Academy gates, I found myself in what looked like a commercial district which was similar to the market district in Crown Capital City.
There were rows of shops lining up a main street that branched out to multiple smaller streets to lead to more shops and they even featured a bazaar marketplace in the centre too.
Looking at the map, I would have to take a right here and move along a path that hugged the wall to walk past a circular building which was supposed to be the College of Martial Skill.
This was apparently where they do the theory and a little bit of the practical on Martial Skills but there’s another island that was dedicated to honing that skill through practical lessons that would be held there instead.
In fact, I now know that most of the school buildings on the main island would be used for the theory aspect in learning the magic and skill but most of the practical lessons would take place on adjoining islands which were specifically made for each area of study.
After the College of Martial Skill building would be the student dormitories which was a large area that had multiple buildings meant to house the student population with different buildings housing each year.
The entire area was massive and it looked like a mini city within the city itself with buildings that were several stories high but I noted that they got progressively shorter in height but looked more luxurious.
I found out that the biggest building was for the first year students and went over to the building where I noticed a Rizzie was floating in front of the entrance.
Her eyes seemed to light up when she saw me and she immediately flew over to me, making me realise she was wearing a lavender coloured robe with silver trims on the edges.
"Hello, hello!! Nice to meet you!! You must be one of the new first year students right? Welcome, welcome! I’m the Dorm supervisor for your year and welcome to your new dorm! That’s a really nice egg you have there!"
I looked down at the egg I was carrying and couldn’t help but let out chuckle, "Ahaha, thank you~"
The small Rizzie let out a giggle before flying around me to stop in front of me again, "Wow! The gold armband! That means you were a Valedictorian at your branch school! Ah! That’s why you’re here ahead of everyone else!"
I nodded, "I was told to come here to pick my dorm room..."
She giggled, "That’s great! Thankfully, it’s not completely filled yet and we left the prime rooms open for people like you to pick before we open it for the lottery tomorrow!"
I blinked at her, "Not filled yet? There’s already people here?"
"That’s right. You’re the fifth batch to arrive! There were four more batches of first year students who arrived over the last few weeks!"
Oh right, I forgot... They don’t gather everyone together first before letting them board the ship... They do it in waves so there’s people who arrived on this island before and people who will arrive after us in the next few days as well.
She beckoned to me, "Come, come! You should choose your room first before the others arrive! It will be quite noisy once they do!"
She didn’t wait for me to answer before flying towards the door, prompting me to follow after her into the building itself.
The entrance of the building featured, surprisingly, shoe lockers where you would be expected to take off your shoes before you enter the building proper.
To the side of it was a window which I assumed was where the dorm supervisor would occupy and I was proven right when I saw the Rizzie fly through the window to float above the counter.
I went over to her just as she pulled out a rather large book to place on the table, not even looking like she had to struggle to do it at all and started flipping through the pages.
I cleared my throat, "Umm... Miss... Err... Dorm supervisor?"
She looked up at me and gasped, "Oh!! Where are my manners? You can call me Kaitlyn!! Like I said, I’ll be your Dorm Supervisor here! There’s also other dormitory staff around so if you need help around here, just look for anyone with the same lavender coloured robes!"
"Ah. Hello, Miss Kaitlyn. I’m Aster. Umm... Do I take off my shoes? Where do I put them?"
"Oh, ahahaha~ The lockers are tied to the rooms so you need a room first, sweetie! Oh, and you don’t really need to put them here if you don’t want to, just take them off and bring them to your room. Some students don’t like leaving their shoes down here. Anyway, come on over!"
I did as she asked and went over to her.
She waved her hand and the armband I was wearing came undone to float into the room behind her, having served its purpose.
She then showed me a page on the book which I realised was basically a map of the building with the room numbers drawn on top of them.
"You get the first pick of these prime rooms, Miss Aster! Depending on your priorities, I would recommend these to you!"
She flew over the drawing and pointed at a few specific rooms there, "Here, these are the rooms located on the middle floors! Not too hard to climb up but also high enough to give you a good view of the Academy!"
She then flew to another side to point at a column of rooms, "Over here! These rooms are located three doors away from the bathrooms so you’re close enough to be conveniently located to access them but not too close to them either!"
Finally, she flew over to the corners to point at the rooms at the far sides, "And of course, the corner rooms have the most space out of all the other types of rooms, which might be a big deal especially since you will be sharing the room with three other students!"
I looked back at her, "Can I pick my roommates?"
She gave me a sad smile, "Unfortunately not. I understand that you might have friends or lovers that you want to stay with but for the first years... Our policy is to give everyone as fair of a treatment as we can. Minus the preferential treatment for Special Class students and above of course. But if a non-Special Class student also gets to benefit from following the Special Class student, there would be quite a lot of problems coming from that. Oh, I also have to tell you that each room can only have one Special Class student as well."
Ah... I can see that... There might be students who might trade or try and bargain with Special Class students to get specific rooms which might throw off the whole system so they might as well just limit the entire thing to eliminate the risk completely.
Well... This also means that I will most likely bunk with three strangers as well... Unless my girls were really lucky in their lottery for the rooms.
Kaitlyn smiled at me, "So which room would you like, Miss Aster? Do you want more space, more convenience or something else?"
"I can take the corner room at the top floor I guess."
She blinked at me, "Top floor? Are you sure? It would be a hassle to climb all the way up there..."
I let my wings appear on my back and the Rizzie understood immediately as she giggled.
"I see, I see! Of course then. Let me just assign you to the room and get you all signed in! And I’m assuming you’ll definitely want to store your shoes in your own room instead of down here~"
I hope I have nice room mates.
