Chapter 1112: Chapter 1112 - Taming the Wall - Rest
Ren opened his eyes a full day later.
He wasn’t anywhere near one hundred percent. His body immediately broadcasted that harsh reality to him, filling his limbs with the heaviness of wet sand.
It wasn’t the drowsy fog of a long sleep; it was the agonizing, hollow ache of a mana-biological system that had been completely drained and was only halfway through rebuilding itself.
But he was conscious...
He was tethered to the waking world, and that was vastly more than he could say for the last forty-eight hours.
The very first thing he noticed, even before his heavy eyelids fully fluttered open, was the hum in his chest.
The small fungus had returned.
It rested deep within the center of his system-space, exactly where it had always belonged. It had fully recovered from the catastrophic systemic collapse that had violently banished it into the ether during their frantic escape.
Its presence was an immediate, profound relief.
Instantly, the chaotic, jagged flow of his internal mana smoothed out. The invisible gears of his magical architecture finally clicked back into place, correcting the agonizing irregularity Ren had been forced to endure during the sprint through the ruins.
It was highly likely that the fungus’s return was the exact catalyst that finally pulled his conscious mind back from the dark.
His system was whole again. It was still riddled with microscopic fractures, the lingering, aching residue of a load a normal tamer never would have survived, but the foundation in Ren was solid.

The second thing he noticed, as his vision finally cleared, was the sheer, crushing weight of the stares pinned on him.
They were all there.
Liora, Luna, and Larissa sat around the bed, flanked by their respective maids. And the gazes they leveled at him carried entirely different, intense frequencies of emotion.
Liora looked at him with the profound, heavy understanding of a soldier who had shared the trenches. She had been down in the suffocating dark with him. She had faced the artifacts firsthand. She knew exactly the brutal, ticking-clock logic behind every single reckless decision Ren had made.
Her eyes were clouded with deep concern, but there was absolutely zero reproach. Reproach required at least a small lack of understanding, and Liora understood perfectly.
Luna and Larissa, however, were annoyed.
It was a complicated brand of annoyance. It was the frustrating, helpless anger that flares up when someone you love does something incredibly stupid and suicidal, but you can’t genuinely yell at them too much because their reckless gamble yielded the exact right outcome.
The parameters of the mission had been strictly defined: it was a stealth reconnaissance mission. Avoid combat if possible. If the situation escalated beyond what their small vanguard could quickly and safely handle, they were ordered to retreat, report back, and mobilize more reinforcements.
Liora had already patiently explained the tactical reality to them. Ren had triggered the trap because the corruption eating at Sirius and the massive door was advancing in real-time. Retreating to gather more hands could have meant handing Selthia the exact window she needed to break the door and claim the prize.
But Larissa wasn’t having it.
She absolutely refused to believe there hadn’t been time to send even a simple communication. In her mind, the decision had been made in a gray margin where reporting and acting were treated as mutually exclusive, when they shouldn’t have been.
She had grudgingly accepted Liora’s explanation, but she fiercely maintained her stance: Ren was vastly more important than the mission. Period.
That was Larissa’s absolute hierarchy. She didn’t care how sound the tactical logic was. Nothing justified risking his life like that.
Luna entirely agreed with Larissa’s hierarchy, Ren was the ultimate priority, but her own feelings were a tangled knot.
Of course, Ren was more important than the mission. That wasn’t up for debate. But looking at his pale face, she couldn’t suppress the overwhelming, tidal wave of gratitude that he had ignored the rules anyway.
Because he had been reckless, because he had pushed himself until he bled from his eyes, her father was currently alive and conscious in the room next door.
Being furiously annoyed and profoundly, tearfully grateful for the exact same action was a maddening contradiction. But it was exactly the kind of contradiction Luna had been forced to learn to live with from the moment she chose Ren.
Ren groaned softly, planting his palms against the mattress as he tried to sit up.
The reaction was instantaneous.
All three girls moved in perfect, frantic synchronization. Six hands converged on his shoulders and chest, gently but firmly forcing him back against the sheets. A chaotic chorus of soft, overlapping instructions filled the room, telling him he needed to rest, demanding he stop moving, reminding him that his shattered body needed time to knit itself back together.
Ren froze. When he was alone with any one of them, he could be a bit bold. But having the combined, overwhelming weight of their affection focused entirely on him all at once, especially with the maids watching from the corners, made his face burn.

Suddenly shy, he let himself be manhandled, though he stubbornly negotiated his way into being propped up against a small mountain of pillows rather than lying completely flat.
Once he was somewhat upright, he reached into the ambient mana. He summoned an object from his shadow space.
It materialized in his palm: the swirling, heavy core of the Earth and Wind Guardian.
It was the final key. The exact item they needed to open the ultimate door in Lykea’s ruin.
He held it out where all three of them could clearly see it.
Larissa and Liora didn’t say a single word. They both silently turned their heads to look at Luna. Of the three of them, this artifact affected her the most directly. Her mother was currently trapped in crystal, waiting on the other side of the door that this core would open.
Whatever Luna felt, whatever she decided in this moment, took absolute priority over anything Liora or Larissa might want to say.
Luna stared at the swirling core.
Then, she lifted her gaze and looked directly into Ren’s exhausted eyes.
"Put it away," she commanded softly.
Her voice was entirely devoid of the frantic, desperate urgency anyone would expect from a daughter inches away from saving her mother.
"You need to finish resting first." She reached out, gently wrapping her hands around his. "I know the resurrection process isn’t easy... And even though you have successfully pulled it off once, you need to be at absolute one hundred percent before you attempt it again."
She paused, her thumb slowly, soothingly stroking the back of his hand. It was the tender, grounding gesture of someone communicating volumes more through touch than her words alone could carry.
"Do not force your system, Ren. Your health is the only thing that can give us more miracles like this in the long run. If you permanently burn out your core just to rush this... we lose vastly more than just a little bit of time."
Her eyes pleaded with him. "Rest a little longer."
In the corner, Mayo opened her mouth. The mischievous glint in her eye signaled she had the absolute perfect, tension-breaking comment chambered and ready to fire.
"Mayo," Liora warned sharply without even turning around.
"Bring Ren some food," Larissa commanded, her tone clipping the air.
"Before anything else," Luna finished, her eyes still locked on Ren.
Behind Mayo, Matilda and Maria moved in perfect unison, each delivering a swift, synchronized smack to the back of the clown-faced maid’s head.
Mayo snapped her mouth shut, her tongue poking out playfully. She quickly evaluated the tactical reality of the room: it was five against one, and the central apple of discord had only just awakened from a coma. The odds for landing her joke were decidedly unfavorable.
"You guys never let me be me," she grumbled, already turning toward the door.

But as she walked away, a bright, genuine smile spread across her face. She protested the method, but she completely agreed with the reality. Because at the end of the day, this exact, chaotic scene meant Ren was awake. It meant they had survived, and life had finally returned to a state normal enough that their biggest immediate problem was the proper chronological order of hot food and bad jokes.
From the shadows of the open doorway, Sirius watched the entire exchange.
He had arrived silently at some point during the commotion. He hadn’t announced himself. He simply lingered on the threshold.
He watched Ren unwillingly put the priceless core away the exact second Luna asked him to. He watched Luna holding the boy’s hand. He watched the three powerful young women orbiting the bed with that profound, unwavering devotion he had noticed yesterday.
But today, he was looking at it with entirely new eyes.
Sirius let out a long, quiet sigh.
Slowly, he nodded to himself.
They were right. He didn’t even need to ask...
The boy lying in that bed was not a tyrant. He wasn’t the kind of man who forced his will on others, nor did he take more than what was freely given. And he absolutely did not view Sirius’s daughter as a political chess piece.
Ren was currently holding Lykea’s freedom core, the single greatest, most desperate prize he could possibly offer to Luna to win her absolute favor. Yet he had stowed it away, simply because Luna had asked him to prioritize his own rest.
Standing in the quiet hall, Sirius couldn’t suppress the profound wave of gratitude washing over him. His admiration for the boy deepened, settling into his bones. Ren was guarding his wife’s core in his shadow, and the second the boy’s shattered system fully healed, he was going to perform one more impossible miracle.
It wouldn’t be long now... It was almost time.
