Chapter 113: Hold on, let me finish

Was this his aim from the beginning?

No. It hadn’t been his plan from the beginning. However, that thought grew after they left the bookshop.

Michael thought about it when they were in the cab. He looked at the maternity book and wondered. Someone who only moved with money. Someone who was very well versed in the arts of killing. And someone who understood a female’s pregnancy perfectly and could tell if there was something wrong with them with a simple glance. That person was Doctor Ro.

If he had him by his side, then he wouldn’t have much to worry about.

It was a benefit he didn’t want to give up.

As such, he would cover up the fact that he had colluded with the Lycans to kidnap him all for money and save him from Noah’s wrath.

Of course, if Noah found out that Doctor Ro had colluded with the Lycans, he wouldn’t just hand over the tripled sum, he might even hand Doctor Ro’s head to him on his hand.

That would be his funeral.

At least, that was what he felt would happen. He didn’t know if Noah was capable of going that far since he had never seen him in action. But he believed he could do anything because of him.

As such, Doctor Ro wasn’t safe.

"Why do you want to have a Rogue accompany you?" Noah asked, alarmed.

"Because he’s capable." Michael answered. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"He’s untrustworthy." Noah pointed out. "He can sell you out for money." He added and Michael darted his eyes away.

That’s too bad, he already did.

Alyssa nodded from the side. There was no way Doctor Ro wouldn’t attempt such a thing again if he got tempted by the offer someone else dropped.

This was dangerous.

"If that’s what you’re worried about, how about we do it like this?" Michael looked towards Doctor Ro who had an irk formed on his head.

Through that lazy expression, it looked like he was pissed but Michael couldn’t be too sure. Was he just delighted about this offer? He wanted to think like that, but he knew it was impossible, and Doctor Ro was actually pissed, but what did he care?

He had to pay for selling him out.

’I’m not that kind of a soul.’ Michael thought.

"If he gets approached by others and gets offered money just to backstab me, all he does is to agree."

"What?!"

"Hold on, let me finish." Michael said. "After he takes the offer to backstab me, he’ll report to Sebastian about it and we’ll double the agreed amount. How’s that? It’s his gain; we’ll get the people who are after me, and no one gets hurt. It’s a good bargain, right?"

Noah actually began to think about it.

"Just think about it. Having someone like Doctor Ro by my side gives me some sense of assurance and he’s pretty skilled as a doctor and an assassin, so I have someone to monitor my condition as well as keep me safe."

His words were reasonable.

"And all for a reasonable price."

He was speaking like a business merchant. Someone who knew exactly what they wanted and how to get it, as if they were the one offering the service.

Doctor Ro was dissatisfied with this.

It was kind of nice that he wouldn’t need to go through any sort of death threat since Michael did not tell them about his involvement with the Lycan ambush but that was it. He did not want to work under anyone.

He was tired of working and just wanted to retire with the money he would get here.

He would live his life however he wanted.

"Your suggestion is indeed reasonable since I know of his skills very well." Sebastian spoke up. "And it’s true that Rogues, doctor Ro especially, move with money, and that is why I fail to understand how he got involved in the ambush."

Michael rolled his eyes down. So, he noticed.

"You said he just happened to be there?" He asked, still skeptical about what Michael had said. "Did he suddenly decide to save you on his own?"

"No, of course not," Michael answered.

It seemed like Sebastian knew Doctor Ro’s habit well and that he didn’t move unless he was offered money. So, of course, he would end up contradicting himself if he said Doctor Ro must’ve had a change of heart.

This was his chance to bring up the money he had promised Doctor Ro.

"Based on how he acted, I figured he was the kind of person who liked money. He did not let us leave without counting all the notes, haha." He laughed. "So, I decided to use that. He wouldn’t have gotten involved since he would just need to step aside and let them do whatever they wanted but I asked him to help. All he needed to do was name a price, but he wasn’t moved, so I told him I would triple whatever amount he was thinking of. He agreed right away. And that was before the Lycans had the chance to engage in any form of fight because Alyssa was ready to protect me."

"Then why didn’t you just let Alyssa protect you and leave the doctor out of it?" Noah asked Michael.

"Because at that time, I was already wondering about what he said to me."

Michael took only a few seconds to come up with reasons that he hadn’t thought of before.

"Doctor Ro told me that the werewolf energy in me was running wild and it would get unstable in a matter of weeks so I needed a specialist to monitor my condition so that I don’t face a danger situation." He said, silently as he touched his stomach. "If he could see that then that meant he was as good as a specialist, right? Since we aren’t in a situation where we can get just anyone, I felt he would be a nice fit for it. I wanted to hire him but I didn’t know how. I didn’t know how to get him to meet you either. But then, the situation presented itself. If I brought him here to give him his money, he would definitely meet you and I could talk about it with you. That... Was what I was thinking at that time."
