Chapter 108: A person who would do anything for money
"You’re one bill short and I can’t accept that. My service needs to be paid in full." Doctor Ro demanded, but this girl, Alyssa confused.
"You followed us all this way because of a single bill?" She asked. "And you expect us to believe you? Do you think we’re stupid?"
"That has nothing to do with me." He said. "Just pay up the single bill you missed and then I’ll be on my way."
No matter how they looked at it, this man was suspicious.
Who in the world would believe that?
No matter how money-hungry he was, there was no way he would follow them all this way. And why did he only reveal himself when they were about to run?
It was just too suspicious.
"Wait, are you mistaking me for the guys who are following you from behind?" He asked and this put them at even more alert. "The Lycans that were following you are none of my business."
"How did you...?"
"I’m a neutral force. None of this has anything to do with me. I just need my money complete and I’ll be on my way."
Alyssa was contemplating this deeply. Just how were they to believe his words simply he was saying them?
He was even more suspicious of saying stuff like that.
He knew there were lycans after them but he did not care and approached them anyway.
Was he not scared of getting attacked? Or was he just that strong to be able to protect himself if they decided to attack him? Or... He was involved with them.
"It still doesn’t answer why you stopped us when we were about to run. Why did you come out at that very point?"
"It’s because you were about to do something stupid." Doctor Ro said. "How do you expect a pregnant female to outrun a Lycan in a state where he had unstable energy surging inside him that could endanger his life? I was just speaking as a doctor, but as a person, I honestly don’t care. You can do whatever, I just want my money."
Alyssa gulped.
Just what was she going to do? Could she trust him? Or was this a trick of some sort?
"Then," Michael spoke up. "Are you saying you have nothing to do with the Lycan that are after us?" He asked straight away, his expression firm and unwavering.
Alyssa wondered how he was so calm when she was in a state of disarray.
"No, I’m not." Doctor Ro answered and Michael gawked at him.
Doctor Ro looked a lot more lively than when he was in the hospital. It might’ve been because he was finally off work and didn’t have to tend to patients.
He hated his job, it would seem.
He was even lazy in telling him about his condition when they were in the hospital, so why would he voluntarily work outside of his work time?
It wasn’t like he was an upright doctor who couldn’t bear to leave a patient alone when it looked like they were in danger. He only did it because he needed the money and nothing else.
And a person who would do anything for money would certainly go as far as walking the path of betrayal.
’In the first place, there was no such thing as a contract that stated our information would be in safe hands.’ Michael thought. ’So, with the information he got, he could sell it for money, and even though he doesn’t know our identities, he knows we’re affiliated with a powerful pack, and I belonged to an Alpha who was equally powerful. So, how else to make a few more big cash?’
Michael thought of this and his nerves fell off.
In other words, they were in danger no matter how he looked at it.
Even if Doctor Ro hadn’t given himself away with the few words he said, the way the Lycans weren’t using this chance, when they were distracted, to act meant that they were on the same side, and this was all part of their plan.
And then, Alyssa’s phone began to ring.
It made their nerves even more uneasy.
’For the love of... Just what is this timing?’
What would happen if she attempted to answer the fall at that moment?
’The look in his eyes...’ Alyssa thought, staring at the dart gaze in the doctor’s eyes.
He looked disinterested in the world but somehow, it looked like he was particularly interested in her.
’Don’t tell me he took offense to my actions and decided to come attack me.’ she thought and gulped. ’Is that the reason behind this whole thing?’
The phone stopped ringing and they were about to feel a little relieved as everywhere went silent again.
"Doc," Michael called and Alyssa turned to him. Doctor Ro also turned towards him. "You say you’re here for your single bill that’s missing, right?"
"Yes, that’s right."
"And you don’t need anything else?" He asked, giving Doctor Ro a lifeline moment to think.
"What are you suggesting I might need?" He asked and Michael’s lips curled up a bit.
Of course, for someone who would do anything for money, including selling out his patient’s information to others, then it was only natural that he would also become a backstabber for that said money.
Michael raised his hand, displaying three fingers as he said with all confidence.
"Three times the usual amount." He said. "I’ll pay you three times the usual amount that was promised to you if you help us get out of here safely." He dared to say, and the people in the shadows fretted.
"Ah, is that so?" Doctor Ro didn’t hesitate to reveal himself.
If it was three times the amount he was promised, no matter how it would end there, so long he escaped with them safely then he would be living off well and wouldn’t even need to continue being a doctor when he didn’t like the job.
He... Would be free.
’I don’t know why the Lycans approached me for this particular female and even offered an unbelievable sum just to trace him and fool him but I don’t care anymore. If he’s a strong Alpha female, then he will definitely have the money to pay me.’ his lips curled up. ’This is such a sweet offer. I’ll be swimming in cash for the rest of my life.’
