Chapter 106: How sure are you?
Alyssa still didn’t like it. This was the female that belonged to the Alpha of the most influential pack. To think he would get treated like this...
She clenched her fists and they trembled.
What should she do? Should she just cancel the appointment and come another day so Michael could get a real test, or should she cancel it altogether?
This was tricky. Her boss handed this mission to her, and she believed she could take care of things, but she didn’t know which decision to make.
First, there was the blatant disrespect, and then the lazy and sloppy method to check if there’s indeed a baby.
Just... What could she do?
"Hey," Michael called, dropping his hand on her shoulder and she snapped out of her thought, raising her head to look at him.
"Mister Matthew?"
"You’re thinking too much." Michael said and smiled. "Our ultimate goal is to check if there’s a baby so whatever the method, so long it’s not harmful, it’s fine."
"But..."
"Besides, we’re the ones delaying a man’s plan," Michael added, glancing at Doctor Ro, who was checking his watch. ’He just can’t wait to be done here and leave. The look of someone who works even though they don’t want to but have to, is so vividly drawn on his face.’ He thought. ’I almost feel sorry for him so let’s get this over with.’
"Are you ready?" Doctor Ro asked, dropping his hand as he checked his watch for the last time.
"Yeah. Please don’t mind my companion’s reaction. She’s just overprotective." He smiled, hoping to wave it off but Doctor Ro couldn’t care less.
He just wanted to be done here.
"Then, lie down here and lift your shirt."
Michael did that and then Doctor Ro put on his rubber gloves before spilling amniotic fluid on Michael’s stomach.
’Cold.’ Michael thought as he looked up at the liquid on his stomach. ’I heard this happens during a scan. Something bout aiding the fluidity. Well, it doesn’t concern me much.’
Doctor Ro put on the machine, his eyes fixed on the screen as he picked up the ultrasound wand and roamed it over Michael’s stomach.
He started getting readings on the screen and Alyssa watched impatiently. What was going on? She couldn’t tell.
It was crazy that they were only going to opt for this method.
’If I knew this was the case, I’d have suggested simply getting a pregnancy test kit and having Alpha Noah’s female check it himself. This is absurd.’
"Hmm," Doctor Ro looked intently at the screen that had started to show a clear reading of Michael’s stomach. "He’s pregnant alright," he said, and Michael felt his heart palpate for a moment.
He had already heard about it before but getting a confirmation from a doctor made it seem even more real.
"How sure are you?" Alyssa asked, approaching him.
"You see this thing over here?" He pointed at the little spot that represented the fetus. "That’s a developing life that’s at most two months old." He said and then pressed a few things on the machine to capture the scan images. "I said it before, I could just guess. No need to go through all that tedious procedure unless your aim is to figure out his due date."
He wiped Michael’s stomach with a wipe and then said,
"You should probably get your Alpha to get you a professional so you don’t die from this." He said, something rather shocking that Michael’s eyes widened.
"Hey, what do you mean by that?!" Alyssa glared at him. "Is that a threat?"
"It’s an advice from a doctor." The lazy doctor said as he turned away, taking off his gloves. "God, you’re loud." He grumbled.
Michael sat up, his eyes on his hands that were interlocked together and then on his stomach.
"Can I ask? What did you mean by that?" He asked the doctor. "Is my life in some kind of danger because of this pregnancy?"
"I can’t say." He said. "But you’re definitely carrying an energy level that’s too much for your body. It seems you’ve been feeding off more than you can swallow for quite a while so your baby will be quite energetic in the next two to three weeks, I estimate." He scratched his head and yawned. "That’s why you need a specialist. Someone who can monitor your condition up close so you don’t end up dying. Or maybe the child might die before you, who knows?"
"How dare you jinx him?" Alyssa yelled at him. She was furious it Michael wasn’t completely unreasonable to attack Doctor Ro for his words.
He simply spoke based on his observations so there was no need to get mad.
Instead of that, he needed to find a solution instead.
’I don’t want to die.’ He thought. ’And I don’t want to give up the child either. But if it has to come to that...’ He pursed his lips.
If it had to come to the point where he had to choose between his own life or the child’s... He’d choose to live.
’I’m sorry, but I’ve become very greedy.’ He thought and closed his eyes.
Even if he lost the child, he could still make another worth Noah in the future. It would be over if he had to die.
He could think that far.
"Now, pay up the bills. I need to get out of here." Doctor Ro said and Alyssa reluctantly brought out the wads of cash she carried in her inner pocket.
After dropping it, she said,
"If there’s anything else you know, you better spill it now." She demanded and Doctor Ro looked at her, his gaze shifting from lazy to dangerous.
"Are you trying to threaten me right now, little lady?" He asked, and Michael sensed terror from this man.
"You... Hmph." He quickly covered Alyssa’s mouth before she said anything else and bowed his head lightly.
"We’ll be off now." He said, taking the printed copies of the scan and dragged her with him.
They didn’t need to worry about any ambush or sort like that but she would make things difficult if she got him on the defensive side.
No matter how weak or lazy he looked, he was still a rogue, so if he decided to hold her words against her, then a fight would break out.
"I think you need to work on your temper, Alyssa." Michael said. "I feel it’ll get you in trouble someday."
