Chapter 309: Welcome to America

As she slept, Valerie’s mind began to wander in the realm of dreams and she found herself slipping into a familiar forest, with a colossal and impossible copse resting atop the tree tops. She looked down and-

With a snort Valerie’s eyes shot open and she quickly raised her head, as she was ripped out of her dreams by something heavy dropping onto her chest. When she looked, she found a black lump of fur curled up on her chest, it’s tail flicking peacefully.

She was sitting in the front passenger seat, with Lucy sprawled out in the back and Jason in the driver seat.

"Nice dream?" Jason asked with a laugh, as he glanced at her. He was sitting back in his seat, watching the auto-pilot do its thing. Even if you didn’t need to pay close attention, it was still good to keep an eye on it just in case it got any strange ideas, or someone tried to hack it.

"I never- Pfft," Valerie started to speak, before getting hit in the face by Beans’ swishing tail. She pushed it against and puffed in annoyance, but couldn’t bring herself to move him.

"I never really got the chance to start one. How far away are we?" She asked.

Jason leaned forwards, glancing at the display before resting back again,

"Still a half hour. So, you gonna tell me how you shook the building like that? Because I know it was you stumpy."

"Would you stop calling me that? I don’t even have stumps, I’m atrophied, which is getting cured by the way! At least Percy’s makes sense."

"Not anymore it doesn’t. Rolling Ray Gun is rolling no more. But mine? I call you stumpy because you’re short. Always have been, especially when we were kids. Like this little mouse always following me around. Stumpy little mouse with a stumped growth.

That is something you will never be able to cure."

"... I hate you." Valerie grumbled, turning away from him as he cackled to himself.

"So, are you gonna tell me how you did it? Stumpy? Come on... You know you want to." He cooed with an evil smile. He reached over, poking her in the arm.

"Tell me. Tell me. Tell me." He teased, giving her another poke with every repetition, "Tell me Tell me Tell me Tell me Tell meeeeee."

"Okay fine!" Valerie shouted, slapping his hand away and causing him to cackle again. Beans let out a low ’Mrrp’ on her chest, irritated that his slumber was disturbed. It took him two whole seconds to get back to sleep. Truly unforgivable.

"Okay, so you know the three different types of magic, right? Component, Somatic, and Intuitive."

"Yeah, sure. What about them?"

"Well I didn’t use any of them. I made my own. Runic magic. It’s kind of like magic scrolls, but you’re doing it in the air, with your own mana as the ink and the paper.

You need to have the consistency of the mana perfect, like no bulging lines or anything otherwise it will throw off the spell. But if you combine it with a mana feeding array, then you can use the mana in the air to power it.

Even without, you can still do this to make it more powerful or efficient. It’s kinda cheating. The only downside is that you need to know all the runes for basically the entire spell, or any adjustments you are making, and it can be slow to make. Oh, and the mana thing."

As she explained it, Valerie held up her hand, letting her mana flow out as she drew different runes in the air. She drew basic ones, such as fire and ice, then fed some mana into them to make them burst into flames or freeze respectively. Then she simply flicked her hand and let the runes fade away, along with the effects they generated.

"Hmm, Pretty cool," Jason muttered, gazing curiously at the fading effects, "Is there one for healing? That could be pretty useful."

"Umm... There might be. But I don’t know it. All the books I read didn’t make any mention of it, but its the language of magic. So surely there must be. I just don’t know where you would get it, sorry."

"Hmm, okay." Jason hummed, nodding his head softly before turning and gazing out of the windshield again, returning them to a simple silence.

"Hey! Hey guys! Down here! Yeah, road trip!" Trivian, also known as Figg, shouted at the top of his lungs and he jumped up and down, waving his hands in the air as he tried to catch the attention of the flying brick.

He was stood on the balcony of a corpo-block, which was made of pure concrete - including the railing. However the miserable grey of the concrete was completely overwhelmed by the vibrant green of the countless different plants surrounding him.

There was nearly a hundred of them. From large peace-lilies to tiny potted cacti. Nearly all of them, including the cactus, had been absolutely stone dead and wilted before Trivian started to play Dawd.

He couldn’t understand why, as he made sure to give them plenty of water and as much sunlight as possible. For example, he made sure to give the cactus an entire kettles worth of water every single day, and then a little bit more when it started to die. But for some reason it just kept looking bloated and mushy, and started to rot.

He probably should have moved away from using the kettle, as there was one time where when he was boiling the water to clean it, he forgot to let it cool down before he poured it on the plant. Okay... Maybe it was closer to two times... or three... or ten.

But he just wanted what was best for his babies? Could there really be such a thing as too much love?

Not anymore there couldn’t! Now that he had his druid powers, even if they started to wilt, he could just bring them back and help them grow even better. It was great!

Although, when he was telling his new friends all of this, all whilst they were loading his copious amount of plants into the SUV, he couldn’t help but notice the strange, slightly worried looks on their faces. Why did everyone always look like that when he told them about his plants?
