Chapter 308: Brick, Brick, Brick, Briiick!
The moment the guild was officially created, and everything was settled with it, Valerie wasted absolutely no time in doing the most important thing. She immediately transferred all of the responsibility to Jason.
It had been a discussion for a while on who would be the leader of their new guild. Even if it existed just to give them a base of operations and let them participate in future events that Revenant knew about, they still had to actually have a leader.
Someone that not only handled all of the day to day stuff, but that they would listen to in combat and follow into battle.
Naturally that last point had led to a few suggestions of Valerie herself, or more accurately Belladonna, being the leader. But she quickly turned that down. Although she was arguably the most powerful of them, although that was only an argument in her head as there was a literal scoreboard giving a definite answer, Valerie did not think that power was all it took to be a leader.
She did not have the strategic mind for commanding multiple people at once. She could make plans ahead of time, or fight alongside others. But plans failed, and she did not have the battlefield awareness or experience in groups that Jason had.
Simply declaring herself the leader because she was the strongest, when there was a better candidate right next to her, would just be idiotic and devolve into ego. Which is probably why Revenant initially insisted himself to be the leader, but no one liked him so that got shut down quick.
Jason was the absolutely obvious choice. Plus it meant that Valerie didn’t need to do all that boring bureaucratic work that Guild Leaders had to do, and which made Percy so miserable. Sigh, she really hoped that he was okay.
Part of her had been hoping to see Percy here, but it was unlikely that he was going to be allowed to fly all the way here just for a test and a chance to see her. Hopefully, they would see each other soon.
Exiting out of the guild registry door, alongside a crowd of others, Valerie was unaware of the horde of people staring at the examination door and obsessing over every single person that had exited from it.
They had initially harassed Lucy, since she was taking a test at the same time, but they quickly realised she was the wrong class.
A few people did glance Valerie’s way, suspecting that the ’Baroness of Blood’ might be using a different exit or in simple desperation to find anyone that might be right, but the moment they saw the cane in her hand, they immediately turned their noses up in disgust and looked away.
Anyone like that when they had access to mana that could turn them superhuman, was definitely going to be at the bottom of the rankings.
Meeting up with Jason and Lucy, they briefly admired the new rankings, and looked disgusted at the parasite nipping at their heels, before they left as a group. Leaving all of Valerie’s new ’fans’ to wait and stare, unaware that they had completely missed or even dismissed the woman they were all so eager to see.
The forums were not going to be happy.

The trio marched through the city, idly talking and exchanging details of their different tests, as they headed towards a car rental store. Jason was mostly silent for the walk, as he was sorting through the list of applications to their guild that had arrived in the brief time since its creation.
There were thousands of people applying, a number that only increased exponentially the more of their true members that they added. Jason had to scroll through the entire list, until he found their actual members applications before accepting them, and with every acceptance, it increased their average massively and bumped them up in the rankings.
The fact that people could see guilds member lists on Rift Divers website, under their registered names of course, made them even more eager to join, as they could easily see that it was a guild composed of nearly all of the top ten.
Whilst Jason was working and being useful, Revenant was screaming at them in their little group chat that they had to get together soon.
Thus they decided to just pull the tooth and gather the crew so that they could get to know each other, prepare for the upcoming battle and more importantly, shut Revenant up.
Jason thankfully paid for their rental, as they decided to go with a nice and affordable SUV. Naturally, SUV stood for ’Skybound Utility Vehicle’.
It was the tamer and much more affordable version of Percy’s fancy flying car. It could still hover and had cross country flight capabilities, but it was nowhere near the same speed. Plus it lacked the sleek design and instead resembled a flying brick. It was even the same shade of red.
After signing the paperwork, they rented the SUV for the week and soon were aboard their mighty Brick, which was what they decided to call their valiant steed. Since Lucy only had a drivers licence, not a piloting license, and Valerie was a life-long Passenger Princess, it was Jason who guided Brick out of the dealership and into the skies. Its little engine puttering away as they climbed higher and higher.
Vestra and Revenant had decided to make their own way to the complex, the location of which they had shared with the group. One of them was flying on their rotten dragon, which he had managed to drag into this world, whilst the other used the service that was crafted by the worst demons imaginable. A service known, as Public Airlines. One could only shudder at the thought, and say a few prayers for the soul of their comrade.
But even when they mentioned that they could pick her up, Vestra had insisted. They couldn’t understand why, but they left it at that, not wanting to push her too much.
That left them with just a quick five hour flight over the land of the Americas. At least they had auto pilot so they could nap whilst Brick happily puttered through the skies.
