Chapter 135: Night Fragrance Gets Blamed Again

Nolan stood in his room, breathing heavily as the broken bamboo news scroll lay scattered across the floor.

His face was dark, his eyes were bloodshot, and the sword Qi around him kept trembling violently.

The servant kneeling near the door did not even dare to breathe loudly.

Nolan clenched his fists so hard that his knuckles turned pale. "Slander... all of this is slander."

For a few moments, he glared at the broken scroll on the floor, and his first instinct was to destroy it completely.

However, once his anger cooled slightly, Nolan suddenly froze as if he had realized something written on the bamboo scroll.

He bent down, picked up the cracked bamboo scroll, and scanned it again.

The moment his eyes landed on the bottom corner of the news, his expression suddenly froze.

There, beneath the final section, was a small symbol drawn in spiritual ink. It looked like a tiny crescent moon wrapped around a broken flower.

The moment Nolan saw it, his entire body stiffened, and his hands trembled slightly.

He knew this symbol.

A long-forgotten memory surged into his mind.

Years ago, before he became famous, before he entered the Heavenly Sword Sect, there had been a girl who smiled at him with pure eyes.

She was Violetta, his first woman and supporter.

Back then, the two of them had created that symbol together as a private mark for secret letters. A crescent moon for him, and a flower for her.

Later, because he could not save her family, their relationship had broken apart. Worse, she had even worked together with his enemy to harm him.

In the end, after destroying his enemy, Nolan had almost killed her too. However, remembering their past affection, he only broke her leg and crippled her spiritual root.

At least, that was how Nolan saw it.

He had shown mercy.

He had let her live.

Yet now, the moment he saw that symbol again, Nolan’s expression turned completely grim. "Damn it. To think you would repay my kindness for letting you live with this, Violetta."

His thoughts moved quickly, turning darker with each breath. "What could she do by herself? What kind of faction could help her achieve this?"

A short while later, a name suddenly appeared in his mind. "Night Fragrance Pavilion."

Nolan’s eyes narrowed. "If I’m not wrong, Violetta often worked with them before. It must be that group that released this kind of news."

His fingers tightened around the bamboo scroll until it cracked again.

CRACK!

Nolan’s eyes burned with rage, and his voice became ice-cold. "Violetta... Night Fragrance Pavilion... I’ll repay this goodwill tenfold."

Before he could even calm down, a calm but terrifying pressure suddenly descended.

Nolan’s expression changed, and he quickly turned around.

Sect Master Arven had appeared inside the room without making a sound.

His hands were behind his back, his face was cold, and his eyes were filled with obvious anger.

"Master..." Nolan quickly cupped his hands.

Arven did not look at the servant. His gaze stayed fixed on Nolan. "What is this news?"

His voice was not loud, but the entire room felt colder.

Nolan’s heart sank slightly, but he quickly said, "Master, this is slander. All of it is slander."

Arven’s eyes narrowed. "Slander?"

Nolan nodded hard. "Yes. Someone is trying to ruin me. They are using filthy rumors to damage my reputation and the sect’s name."

Arven’s expression became even darker. "You still know this damages the sect’s name?"

Nolan froze.

Arven slowly stepped forward. "Nolan Veyr, you are my youngest disciple. Everything you do reflects on me, and everything about you reflects on the Heavenly Sword Sect."

His voice became colder. "Now this news has spread outside. Cultivation cities, merchant groups, minor sects, and wandering cultivators are all reading it. Do you understand what that means?"

Nolan clenched his fists. "Master, I swear, this is someone’s plot against me."

Arven stared at him. "If you truly did nothing, how could so much information suddenly appear?"

Nolan’s expression stiffened.

Arven continued, "Names, locations, fake identities, courtesan houses, witness claims, and even records from your past missions. Do you think all of that can appear from thin air?"

Nolan hurriedly said, "Master, information factions always exaggerate things. They mix truth with lies to sell gossip."

Arven’s eyes turned sharp. "Exactly."

Nolan froze again.

Arven said coldly, "Even if it is exaggerated, the fact that it can spread this far still means at least part of it is true."

Nolan’s face became pale with anger and humiliation. "Master, you don’t believe me?"

Arven looked at him for a long moment, and disappointment slowly appeared in his eyes. "I wanted to believe you."

Those words hit Nolan harder than any slap.

Arven sighed, but there was no warmth in it. "I accepted you because I saw talent, will, and potential in you. I thought your harsh past made you stronger. I did not expect your name to become tied to this kind of filth."

Nolan lowered his head, his fingers trembling slightly. "Master, give me time. I will find who did this. I will prove..."

Arven directly shouted, "No."

Nolan looked up. "Master?"

Arven’s voice became firm. "From this moment onward, you are forbidden to leave this courtyard until the Sword Tomb opens."

Nolan’s eyes widened. "But, Master..."

Arven’s pressure suddenly increased, forcing Nolan’s words back into his throat. "No buts."

He stared at him coldly. "You will cultivate, reflect, and stay silent. You will not do anything that makes these rumors even worse than they already are."

Nolan’s jaw tightened.

Arven turned toward the door. "If you take one step outside without my permission, I will personally seal your cultivation until the Sword Tomb opens."

Nolan’s body stiffened.

Arven paused at the doorway and said one last sentence without looking back. "Do not disappoint me more than you already have."

With that, he disappeared.

The room became silent again.

Nolan stood in place, his eyes lowered, his fists clenched so hard that blood slowly dripped from his palm.

"Damian... Violetta... Night Fragrance Pavilion..."

His eyes burned with hatred.

"Just wait."
