Chapter 49: Evaluation

With the registration done, Ray clasped his hands and called out to Belva.

"Are you done having fun?" He asked.

"Not really." Belva shook her head.

She didn’t even get a proper warm-up because of how pathetic these new students were.

"Oh well, nobody else seemed to be volunteering to spar with you anyway."

Ray shrugged and was about to leave the premises when a voice echoed.

"Hold up, you’re saying this person who beat others up isn’t a student of the academy?" Someone from the crowd suddenly spoke up and stepped forward.

"Oh my god, that’s the fourth prince, Sylas Viren!"

"He’s so handsome, like the rumors had said."

"Haha, that arrogant student is fucked. He offended the fourth prince." The three students who were beaten up into a pulp smiled wickedly.

They were powerless earlier because nobody seemed to be defending them.

But now that the literal royalty, the fourth prince, had come to their rescue.

Would that puny noble still dare to flaunt his weight around?

The answer to their doubts would soon be shown.

’Sylas Viren? That sly piece of shit who always schemes behind the scenes but is actually trash?’ It took Ray a few moments to remember this cannon fodder character.

According to his memory, Sylas Viren had taken notice of the protagonist’s talent and wanted to recruit him into his political party.

Of course, the protagonist rejected politely, but Sylas took it as a slap to his face and prestige. Thus, cementing his hatred and grudge over the protagonist.

Yeah, it was retarded enough to go full on emo mode just because a dude rejected him. It wasn’t like Sylas was also into men when he had many women surrounding him.

’Oh wait, it can’t be that Sylas is also secretly a BL?’ Ray suddenly felt disgusted and retreated in steps.

His action was naturally mistaken by others as being afraid of Sylas.

Everyone except for Belva and Samantha.

The former already knew his audacious behavior, whereas the latter refused to believe he was the cowardly type.

’Hmph, indeed a cowardly fool who only dares to bully the weak.’ Sylas didn’t know about Ray’s true personality and thought it was another one of those who were frightened by his House’s name.

As one of the major houses that was closely aligned with the Royal House, they were in charge of information. Thus, Sylas knew exactly who the person in front of him was.

’Raymond Carrion, otherwise going by the name Ray. An adopted son of the Marquis. How amusing is that?’ He would have been more respectful if the actual Marquis were present or his eldest daughter, Chloe.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

And as someone who knew the academy always loved to spy on the newly admitted students to give their private evaluations, Sylas planned on using Ray as a stepping stone to bolster his popularity.

Any rogue readers now would definitely be praying.

Praying for Sylas’s fate~

"Who are you?" Ray suddenly asked. "I thought I stepped on shit earlier, so I had to take a step back."

"Huh?" Sylas twitched his ears. Did he seriously not hear the crowd earlier shouting his identity?

"Oh, you’re deaf?" Ray cleared his throat and made some finger gestures, mimicking those hand signs while shouting on the top of his lungs.

"I said, ’Who are you?’ Are you their nanny or babysitter?"

"Pfft!" Belva cracked a laugh.

Even though it was barely audible, it caused a domino effect. Many soon followed and let out a small laugh.

The aura that Sylas had gathered earlier dissipated or deflated like a popped balloon.

Meanwhile, at the top of the sky castle, in a somewhat dim room, multiple people gathered around.

"This student, Raymond Carrion, has got quite the humor." An elderly man rubbed their beard and mused.

"I’ll say he’s more of a fool." Another elderly man without a beard shook his head. "To offend the fourth prince is quite foolish once he graduates or leaves the academy."

"I don’t really think so." While the rest were discussing, a middle-aged woman at the front shook her head. "According to intel, that student is the adopted son of Marquis Robert. The admission slots were filled this semester already, but he used his merit to exchange for it."

"Wait a second, Vice Principal Elsa, you’re telling me he’s that special admission student?"

Soon, the crowd’s interest was aroused when they realized this information.

Elsa, the Vice Principal who was in charge of the evaluation for the first year, nodded her head in agreement. She was naturally a beauty herself, but nobody dared to show any lust toward her.

After all, she was a bona fide Seventh Circle Mage. Her authority was only beneath that of the Principal, who had mostly delegated the majority of the administration to her.

"Should we stop their farce then?" Another professor asked. "It would be problematic if the Marquis raised a complaint."

Although the Marquis noble rank didn’t seem high when looking at the overall pyramid nobility structure, nobody would dare to say they could step over his head.

He alone defended the North through his might. His daughter was simply taking over as a show of force that the Crestellan Empire was still strong, with successors ready to accomplish the duty.

Almost all the territory in the North belonged to Robert—a feat no other nobles in similar ranks or above by 3 get to enjoy.

"We don’t need to intervene." But to their surprise, Elsa smirked. "The Marquis specifically told us to not give him any special treatment. He said Raymond should be able to prove himself without Carrion’s backing."

"Oh!"

The numerous professors were stunned by the ordeal. To think that the Marquis held such high expectations of someone.

"If the Marquis said so, then we’re going to get a good show."

"The academy really shouldn’t be overly biased to nobility."

"Agreed. Let’s just see how the show goes on."

With that said, all eyes returned to the express line, their curiosity piqued to a new height.
