Chapter 47: Express Line
"How long is this academy?" Ray questioned when he had been walking for half an hour.
By the way, the Crestallan Empire was extremely large.
Think of the United States with 50 states. The empire itself was twice the size of that or even more. Ray was too lazy to actually study geography because it was a pain in the butt.
As for those who couldn’t think of it, imagined the size, or claimed it was unrealistic.
It was a fantasy world he got thrown into, and not the actual Earth.
Imagine trying to use Earth’s logic or math to calculate a fantasy world filled with magic and more unforeseeable things?
Now that would be ridiculous, and they might as well take the exit entrance.
"The academy is within the empire but not quite either." Samantha knew she had to explain the situation, or she might get another blabbering session.
"Do you see those floating clouds up in the sky?" She pointed at the perfect blue sky.
The type of sky where everything was peaceful before hell rained down and turned the sky to absolute crap.
"Yes, I can see that, Sam. I also see someone owing 20 gold coins from above there." He commented.
"..."
’Hold it in, Sam. No, Samantha, why did I even agree to being called Sam?’ She cried inwardly and felt like she was being corrupted by a villain scumbag.
No, she was really being corrupted by one.
"Anyway, that is where the academy is located." Samantha cleared her throat and explained.
"Why so much hassle?" Ray couldn’t understand the need for a sky castle on top of the empire as the academy base.
Couldn’t they have just shifted the sky castle elsewhere then?
"It’s a symbolization of the empire’s strength." Belva suddenly chimed in at this moment.
"The Crestellan Academy was the glory of the empire and a declaration to nearby powerhouses that they were not to be trifled with. Not to mention, it remained a fact that the academy produced many talented individuals without discrimination." She continued, feeling somewhat nostalgic.
Although the professors and academy tried their best to prevent discrimination and bullying, there were bound to be a few that escaped surveillance.
Once a student left the sky castle, it was hard to tell how they would fare on the ground. Additionally, the students’ families could be harmed unless they were paid specific attention by someone for their talents.
And needless to say, Belva wasn’t talented enough to capture the professor’s attention to receive such protection.
"Every system has its flaws, mine included." Ray lightly patted Belva’s shoulder while jabbing at his own system.
[Don’t ask me questions then!]
’Tsk, you give vague or cryptic answers anyway. What’s the point of even asking you anything?’ Ray ignored the system’s response and continued his question.
As a reader, he naturally knew what the academy was. But he wanted to know if there was something that deviated from the novel.
Alas, what they explained so far was something he knew already.
"Is there any particular event that happened in the academy?" He asked directly.
"Any particular event?" Samantha frowned a bit.
"Oh, you know?" He leaned closer and wondered if she got some hint.
Soon, her face frowned deeper as she crashed out. "How would I know when I’m also a newly admitted student to the academy? If you want to find reasons to mess with me, then do it another way."
"..."
"Pfft," Belva let out a small laugh. It never failed to humor her whenever Ray met setbacks or similar situations like this.
It was also a good revenge for his earlier remark at her when he told her that she asked too many questions.
Oh, the good old karma never failed to retaliate.
Who was the one asking too many questions now?
’I’m trying to do something serious for once, and both of you are treating me like an idiot. Fuck this shit!’ Ray scratched his head and decided to investigate once he got to the academy.
Soon, the trio arrived at a location filled to the brim.
People mountain people sea!!!!
Ray wanted to shout those aloud, but he highly doubted anyone here would understand his jokes.
Only cultured people—cultured readers would understand his jokes.
But the overall gist was that the location was packed and almost all of them were students, with a few being accompanied by parents.
’What a mama boy or girl.’ He rolled his eyes at these people. He totally wasn’t jealous because they still had parents, while he didn’t.
"Where is the express line?" Ray turned to Belva and demanded. He hailed from a noble household, so there should at least be some privilege, right?
He knew very well that when a certain organization claimed to be fair and just, they were just bullshitting. Deep down, they were actually biased as hell because real fairness didn’t need to be advertised.
Their actions alone would speak for themselves, rather than their flowery, long speech designed by professionals to swindle the naive people.
"The express line is over there." Belva’s mood sank slightly as she pointed at a location. It was still overly crowded, but not that much when compared to the other lines.
"Since we’re going to line up differently, shall we separate here?" Samantha thought this was her chance to split off from the hideous Ray.
Alas, she didn’t even get to walk far when Ray grabbed her by the collar.
"Where do you think you’re going?" He snickered. "As my homework slave, you obviously get to be in the express line with me. Not everyone could have the honor to become my homework slave, so you should be grateful for this opportunity."
’Who the hell wants this opportunity?’ Samantha cursed silently. She would gladly forfeit this opportunity to someone else free of charge.
Unfortunately, no matter how reluctant she was, she still had to follow Ray to the express line.
’Why did I have to bump into a villain? What is with my luck?’
