Chapter 45: Yoinked
"Have you made up your decision yet?" Ray asked in a somewhat annoyed tone.
Of course, it was an act to pressure Samantha into being incapable of thinking properly.
Oftentimes, when humans faced intense pressure, their critical thinking skills would lack substantially. Only a few individuals who could overcome this state would become gods amongst others.
And no, Ray was the one to fall under intense pressure.
The fact that he couldn’t even withstand the bait BL Novel was enough evidence to show his mentality was weak. So weak that he still wanted to have a word with Chasing Star and give her a toxic rap song.
In the end, Samantha chose to trust her guts.
"Very well, who’s afraid of who!" She gritted her teeth and grabbed the magic contract.
The clauses were simple and modified on the spot by Belva.
Since it was a magic contract, there was no need to physically write down anything.
Without hesitation, she placed down her signature with her mana.
"Your turn!" She threw the contract back to him.
Ray paused for a moment. He was unsure if he could also use mana to put down his signature.
’Hopefully that disguised mana core works...’ It would have been really embarrassing if it didn’t work.
Thankfully, it seemed like the disguised mana core did function like a proper normal one.
’Phew, looks like Chasing Star or the system didn’t attempt to mess around.’ He sighed in relief when the signature was signed and became active.
"Okay, now come attack me and see if my clothes will trigger the defense."
He closed his eyes and opened his arms wide.
From the look of it, he was extremely vulnerable and had no way to defend himself.
"You better not try to use your own magic to defend. I can still discern whether the defense comes from the clothes themselves or from your mana." Samantha warned sternly.
Soon, a crowd began to gather around as they were equally curious about how the gamble would unfold.
"Do you think this noble is lying? His face really does look like a villain if you ask me."
"Hmm, I’m not sure. Would he really make a magic contract if he was lying?"
"Look at that face for more than 3 seconds and tell me you think he’s an honest person."
"... you’re right, it’s impossible."
’I can hear you son of bitches!’ Ray cursed silently. These people in the crowd were truly fearless.
How dare they trash talk about his appearance in front of him!
Couldn’t they have waited until he was gone?
It wasn’t his fault that he wasn’t born handsome or an eye candy. One should actually praise him instead of not going under the knife to look like those dolls.
’Ah, wait, never mind, I’m good-looking. It’s only because of that infamy debuff. Mhm, that’s right. Everything is that bitch Chasing Star’s fault. I’m actually handsome.’
Sometimes, delusion wasn’t an illness, but a sort of cure to relax the broken mentality.
"Here I go!" While Ray was distracted by the crowd’s muttering, Samantha had managed to form a magic bow from her mana alone and pulled the string of the bow back.
A powerful surge of energy could be sensed as a magic arrow slowly formed.
’This woman...’ Even Belva was stunned by the power of her arrow.
’Seriously? How long is she going to take?’ Only Ray was annoyed by the long wait time.
If he wasn’t obligated by the contract, he would have long made a move.
Who in their right mind would wait for their opponent to finish charging up an attack?
Maybe the foolish protagonist would do... no, he definitely would wait.
But him?
Ray would beat the crap out of them if they even took a second too long to charge their moves.
Time slowly passed by, and Samantha finally finished charging up her powerful arrows.
"Don’t say I didn’t warn you. For wearing a fake, you might be left in critical condition." Samantha coolly said and aimed for a spot that was least lethal.
In the meantime, the powerful residual finally attracted the nearby empire’s guards to the scene.
"What’s going on here?" The leader of the patrol asked in an unfriendly tone.
"It’s nothing much," Belva stepped forward to stop the guard and explained the overall situation.
Initially, the guards didn’t plan to listen to her. But their attitude quickly changed when Belva subtly revealed an emblem that belonged to the Carrion.
"Ah, I see." The leader cleared his throat and nodded. "As long as no damage is done to the street or building, you should be fine."
"You can rest assured." Belva smiled gently and cast a large barrier. "With this barrier, it should be enough to sustain the damage."
The leader narrowed their eyes and inspected the barrier. ’A Third Circle Barrier. As expected of the Marquis’s maid.’
Even a maid in their household was this powerful.
This basically confirmed their identity wasn’t fake.
"Who is this Young Master? Young Master Jake or Young Master Skyler?" The Leader then asked in concern.
It was well-known that the Marquis had two sons.
"Oh, he’s the Lord’s adopted son, Raymond Carrion."
Belva took the chance to introduce Ray to the empire.
The Lord had wanted her to make sure this news was spread to put pressure on his children to work even harder.
"Ah!" Realization dawned upon the leader as he promptly excused himself.
This was getting close to politics, and he valued his life more than to dabble in the muddy water.
While the guards left, Samantha finally released her hand that was holding on the mana string.
SWOOSH!
A powerful gust of wind emerged from the speed of the arrow.
"This is what you get!" Samantha was confident in her arrow power.
However, her expression turned ugly when the arrow that should have pierced through Ray was deflected.
DINK!
The defensive mechanism from Ray’s clothes activated and deflected her attack with ease.
"Indeed, this is what I get. YOINKED!" Ray opened his eyes at this moment and flashed a wicked expression.
You’re mine now!
