Chapter 44: Money Armor
When William remained silent and even began to sweat a little, it became obvious that he had no money.
’So it was a dud.’ Samantha didn’t expect he was also dirt broke.
Why did he jump in if he couldn’t even be of help?
Now it was just great; he offended this noble, which made things extra difficult for her.
"H-How much do you want?" Samantha gritted her teeth and asked.
’Gotcha!’ Ray laughed inwardly.
So what if you’re the protagonist!
You may have plot armor, but that doesn’t mean you have money armor!
Bwahahahahah!
"Miss... that’s—" William wanted to advise her that it wasn’t a good thing to ask that question.
Unfortunately, Samantha had lost her patience with him. She had acted pitifully and was a love-brain fool just now in hopes he could help her out.
"Just leave me alone." She didn’t want him to make things any worse than they needed to be.
"You’ve heard her, man. This is no longer your business." Ray waved his hand in an arrogant manner.

’Whoa, this protagonist is really money armor, except it’s for me to farm points.’ Since he knew the protagonist wouldn’t just attack others, he could take advantage of his dumb heroic personality.
"Remember me well. I am your Father!" He spread his arms wide as a welcome to William. "Come to me, son. Father shall teach you how to behave like a proper man next time."

William was beyond disgusted at Ray’s shamelessness. But what really infuriated him was that he dared to claim to be his Father when he hadn’t gotten past the grief of losing his parents.
"I’ll remember this debt." William clenched his fist and hissed. Then without any further action, he turned around and left.
He didn’t even bother to glance at Samantha since the latter had already made her choice to compensate Ray.
’That’s right. Get played by me, William.’ Ray sneered inwardly. He admired him in the past, but not anymore when he does sword fights in the bed.
What a disgusting protagonist!
Soon, his attention shifted back to Samantha, who quickly flinched at his sight.
’Ugh, so ugly!’ She cried silently. She had never seen such a despicable and hated face in her life.
’Is my face really that bad?’ Ray resisted his urge to lash out at her. If anything, there was someone else more hideous than him, and all they knew was construction here and there.
Yet that person managed to bag the best girl.
Since they could do it, that means there was still hope for him. He simply needed to find the one who could accept his infamy debuff.
Anyway, he was getting sidetracked here.
"My clothes cost 5 gold coins. How are you going to pay me back?" Ray demanded.
"5-5 gold coins??!" Samantha’s face turned ashen white. She had never even seen a gold coin in her life, so where in the world could she get 5 gold coins?
"Belva, tell her where my clothes come from in case this little missy thinks I’m trying to scam her."
"Yes, Young Master." Belva nodded and quickly explained the origin of his clothes. "The clothes that Young Master is wearing hailed from the famous magic designer, Mister Wellis. The magic embedded in the clothes offered the latest defensive functions capable of blocking fourth-circle spells."
"M-Magic Designer Mister Wellis..." Even a commoner who studied a little would know the name Wellis.
He was a famous Fifth Circle Mage who dominated the fashion world with his combination of luxury and magic that every noble loved.
Her steps staggered a bit, her face extremely pale.
’Wait a second, if it’s really from Mister Wellis, then why didn’t the magic defense activate and protect him?’ She suddenly stared at them and wondered if she was being taken as a pushover.
She clenched her fist and decided to argue their explanation.
However, it was at that moment Ray snuck close to her and whispered, "You might be curious whether my clothes really belonged to magic designer Wellis, right? Shall we have a bet? If it’s true, you would compensate me quadruple the medical fees, but if it’s false, you don’t have to compensate me for anything."
Samantha swallowed a mouthful of saliva nervously. This was a gamble that he suggested—a really big one.
If she won, then she wouldn’t have to pay a dime. But if she lost, then she would have to pay quadruple, which meant 20 gold coins.
’No, he could be bluffing me to not take the gamble.’ She thought to herself.
She then took a subtle glance at Ray and saw his hideous and disgusting face.
It was the face where she really couldn’t stand to look longer than 3 seconds before she needed to puke or give him a punch.
"Hmph, I think you’re lying!" She exhaled deeply and said.
"Very well!" Ray clasped his hands and immediately extended his hand to Belva.
’Here we go again...’ Belva shook her head and retrieved a magic contract from her pouch.
"A-A magic contract??!" Sure enough, Samantha was dumbfounded.
Who in their right mind carried magic contracts with them?
No, more importantly, why would anyone even bring up a magic contract?
Keep in mind that a magic contract was a very expensive item because it was imbued with high Circle Mages’ magic to ensure the contract could not be breached.
She began to hesitate about whether she had made the right choice.
If he was willing to use such an expensive item for the gamble, it could really mean the clothes were authentic.
However, her hesitation quickly disappeared once she noticed Ray’s wicked grin, almost as if he was daring her to back down.
’Go on, choose your pick, my dear heroine. Your protagonist had already lost the money armor, and nobody would be foolish enough to rescue a commoner who’s in the wrong from the beginning.’ Ray’s sinister face was in full view.
He could already imagine slaving Samantha away to do his bidding.
As for doing anything to her intimately?
Ray was disgusted and harbored no such thoughts.
As a former loyal reader, he used to love these heroines. But now that he was a rogue reader and got to understand them in reality, he realized they were beyond ridiculous.
