Chapter 511: Chapter 508: Something is Wrong with His/Her Face
Although the morning seminar had concluded, the afternoon session had yet to begin.
The three of them resolved their lunch at a fast food restaurant near the hotel.
They didn’t want to return to the hotel right away, thankfully the restaurant wasn’t too busy.
Even during lunchtime, there were still quite a few empty seats available.
So the three of them unapologetically settled down to rest here, luckily neither the waitstaff nor the owner asked them to leave.
"Do we really need to waste our time here?" Zhang Hao asked.
"Let’s look over the afternoon study materials. It might just be an isolated case with that one female doctor, especially since this is organized by the province," the head nurse said.
"You’re right, we’re here anyway, might as well treat it like a vacation. But let’s make tomorrow the same as today, and then we can head back," the Director of Surgery added.
Zhang Hao actually felt the same way, after all, the three of them were a unit now.
Whatever they did or said, they had to consult with each other.
"Alright then, let’s head back in ten minutes," Zhang Hao said.
They rested leisurely at the fast food restaurant for a full half-hour before returning to the hotel ten minutes before the afternoon courses started.
Upon returning to the meeting room, they noticed that half the people were already gone.
Sitting back in their previous spots, Zhang Hao realized that the female doctor who had been sitting next to him was nowhere to be seen.
Now there was a man in his forties, but Zhang Hao didn’t greet him or bother asking which hospital he was from.
The other half who didn’t show up might have felt deceived and gone home.
However, overall, the afternoon session still seemed to have valuable lessons to take away.
At least it was more useful than the morning had been.
When evening came, the three returned to the hotel, despite not having traveled much throughout the day.
But maintaining the same posture in one place was also very tiring.
The head nurse headed straight for her room upon returning to the hotel. Zhang Hao and the Director of Surgery didn’t forget to call their families.
The Director of Surgery, married for many years, had a virtuous and gentle wife and a smart, adorable child.
If it weren’t for this learning opportunity, he probably wouldn’t have traveled so far.
"The weather’s been changeable these past few days, it might rain, make sure to dress appropriately, don’t catch a cold, it’s tough being sick," the Director of Surgery said.
While lying on the bed texting He Qianhui, Zhang Hao’s ears remained alert.
Listening to the Director of Surgery talk with his family, suddenly the Director of Surgery approached Zhang Hao’s bed.
He slapped his back, "I’m making a call to my family, why are you eavesdropping?"
Zhang Hao looked up and whispered, "Then you should make me deaf. If you’re worried about me listening in, find a place where there’s no one around. Why on earth do you have to stay in the same room? You think I enjoy listening?"
Zhang Hao retorted, to which the Director of Surgery chuckled, "I was just joking. Why take it so seriously? You really have no sense of humor. Alright, I’ll leave you alone now."
The Director of Surgery tossed his phone onto the bed and grabbed his clothes, heading into the bathroom.
The moment he saw him bathing, Zhang Hao suddenly remembered the previous night; there was no hot water in the head nurse’s room.
He wondered whether the hotel staff had restored the hot water supply to her room after a day.
Out of concern, he sent her a message to ask, but the head nurse didn’t reply.
Perhaps she was too tired and had fallen asleep.
After the Director of Surgery finished his shower, Zhang Hao didn’t waste time.
"Are we still going to attend tomorrow’s session?" Zhang Hao asked.
The Director of Surgery hesitated slightly, "I’ll call the leaders at the hospital later to see what they think."
"Is this study seminar something we must attend all the way through?"
Since the Director of Surgery took on the responsibility so proactively, Zhang Hao gave him a thumbs up.
He got to the bathroom and, before he even turned on the shower, had already heard the Director of Surgery on the phone with the hospital leadership.
Since the matter was handed over to him, Zhang Hao didn’t want to worry about it and quickly finished his shower.
When he came out, he saw the Director of Surgery packing up.
"What’s going on?" Zhang Hao asked.
"We’re going back tomorrow. Wait a bit and then knock on the head nurse’s door. Tell her to pack up; we’re leaving tomorrow. This ’training session’ seems like a sham," the Director of Surgery reminded.
"But it’s organized by the province," Zhang Hao puzzled.
"The provincial office doesn’t know about this. Our leaders haven’t confirmed it either. I mentioned today’s events when I called just now."
"Our leader just had someone ask about it. Although the training is under the guise of being organized by the province,"
"There’s no direct contact with the relevant provincial departments. It’s just a façade—no use wasting our time here," the Director of Surgery said.
Zhang Hao uttered an "Oh": "Okay, then I’ll tell the head nurse right now. I messaged her just now, but she didn’t reply."
Upon hearing this, the Director of Surgery immediately stopped what he was doing.
He turned and looked at Zhang Hao: "What message did you send to the head nurse in the middle of the night? Don’t harass her."
"You’re not married; she has children." Zhang Hao felt confused as the Director of Surgery said this.
"What do you take me for? Besides, aren’t you here too? Could I really do anything behind your back with the head nurse?"
The Director of Surgery chuckled: "Who knows? Remember when the head nurse went to find you alone and called you to her house?"
"Who knows if anything happened between you two?"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Hao immediately picked up a pillow from the bed and threw it at the Director of Surgery’s back.
"Always talking nonsense, you gossip like a woman. If I had anything going on with the head nurse, would I need to share a room with you?"
After speaking, Zhang Hao stood up and went to knock on the head nurse’s door.
He waited at the door for quite a while before the head nurse finally came to open it, leaving only a crack.
Inside it was pitch black.
"Head nurse, already sleeping so early?"
The head nurse yawned and said, "Been tired all day, really sleepy, what’s the matter?"
"The Director of Surgery says we’re heading back tomorrow," Zhang Hao said.
"Going back tomorrow, really? Have you talked it over with the higher-ups?" the head nurse was curious as well.
"We’ve talked it over. It turns out we’ve been deceived on this trip. When I get back, I’ve got to take it up with the leaders," Zhang Hao said.
The head nurse uttered an "Okay": "Right, I got it, thanks."
Zhang Hao nodded, preparing to leave, but noticed something off about the head nurse’s complexion.
Zhang Hao leaned in, bending down to look at the head nurse: "Head nurse, why is your face so red? Have you been drinking secretly?"
The head nurse quickly covered her face with her hand: "Do you have anything else?"
Zhang Hao sniffed: "Nurse, do you smell something strange?"
The head nurse reached out and pushed Zhang Hao away: "It’s late, go to sleep, good night."
With a bang, the head nurse closed the door right away.
Zhang Hao chuckled. He was all too familiar with that smell just now—it seemed the head nurse wasn’t just tired.
She had some ideas, Zhang Hao mused aloud with a lowered voice outside her door.
"Head nurse, if you’re in the mood, just tell us. Look, you got capable young men right here, no need to exhaust yourself with your hands," he said.
