Chapter 144: Chapter 142 Natural Conception
Zhang Hao looked at the message on his phone, the corners of his mouth uncontrollably curving upwards, a scenario he thought happened only in movies or TV dramas.
How did such a plot come to be enacted in his life, and for real, at that?
But this was all backward, wasn’t it usually men who threatened women?
Based on the timestamp of the message, there were only five minutes left to consider it, but Zhang Hao planned to ignore it.
He continued driving home, pretending nothing had happened. Sometimes, not responding is a response in itself.
Besides, he had something very important to discuss with his parents today. He couldn’t let this Lü Juan mess it up.
Before he could even get home, Lü Juan’s call came through again, and Zhang Hao couldn’t help but stop his car on the roadside to answer it.
"Doctor Zhang, come quickly; I’m feeling unwell,"
Just by hearing Lü Juan’s voice, he knew she wasn’t sick. Even if she were, she’d recover on her own.
"I’m off work now, Ms. Lv. If you’re feeling unwell, you can call an ambulance at any time. Once you’re at the hospital, naturally someone will see you."
Lü Juan coquettishly huffed, "Only Doctor Zhang can cure my illness, ah ah ah..."
The sound from the other end of the phone was unbearable, and Zhang Hao quickly hung up and floored the accelerator to get the car parked downstairs.
As soon as he entered the house, not even having had the chance to change his shoes, his mother hurried over to him.
And not just that, she stuffed several hundred yuan into his hand.
"Son, go out and buy some groceries; we have guests today."
Standing at the entranceway, Zhang Hao furrowed his brow and leaned forward trying to see who was in the living room.
It was rare for them to have guests, and he wanted to see who it was. In case it was someone he had issues with, he definitely couldn’t stay for dinner; the person would have to be turned away.
"Come on, hurry up. And buy some chips, chocolate, little snacks,"
His mother thought of everything, and Zhang Hao didn’t refuse. But asking him to buy groceries was somewhat of an overestimation of his abilities.
Before leaving, he still had his mother list out what was needed.
Arriving at the nearby market, Zhang Hao stood in front of a comprehensive vegetable stand, waiting several minutes before he received a message from his mother.
The required groceries were picked out according to a recipe, which suggested today’s visitor was no ordinary person.
Not missing a single item, Zhang Hao finally qualified to sit down in the living room.
No sooner had he sat down than a woman about his mother’s age, cracking sunflower seeds, sized him up.
It made Zhang Hao’s skin crawl, "Auntie, is there something on my face? You keep looking at me."
"Not bad, not bad, you have the same looks as your dad when he was young. When the girl comes later, you’d better be proactive, don’t just sit there dumbstruck."
Huh?
Zhang Hao was befuddled. What was this all about, and how was it related to him? Were they setting him up on a blind date?
At that thought, Zhang Hao abruptly stood up and headed towards the kitchen.
Once in the kitchen, he closed the door with a thud, "Mom, what’s all this about?"
"You’re not getting any younger. You said you wouldn’t get a girlfriend during school because of your studies, now you’re saying you’re postponing it for your career. I want to hold a grandchild soon."
Seeing his mother’s earnestness, it didn’t seem like she was joking, but Zhang Hao really wasn’t interested. After all, he was still thinking about marrying his former sister-in-law.
"Mom, something this important, why didn’t you tell me earlier? You’re not respecting me at all."
His mother looked at her son and quickly elbowed him, "Go back to your room and change into clean clothes right now. What would it look like when the girl arrives and sees you like this?"
As for such matters, Zhang Hao wasn’t eager at all, looking at his mother busy in the kitchen made him genuinely distressed.
"How about this, let’s go out to eat today."
Upon hearing this, Mom looked at the dinner that had already begun being prepared, unsure of what to do next.
Zhang Hao moved quickly, placing the fish in the freezer and the fresh vegetables in the refrigerator to save for the next few days.
With a sudden change of plans, the aunt sitting in the living room quickly contacted the girl who hadn’t arrived yet, telling her to go directly to the restaurant and wait.
That girl didn’t mind at all and agreed readily.
Both parties arrived at the restaurant almost at the same time. As the girl got out of the car, the matchmaking aunt saw her and stretched her hand out the window, waving.
After finding a spot to park and turning off the engine, Zhang Hao got out of the car and saw the girl approaching.
The girl had long, straight black hair and wore gold-framed glasses, with a grey blazer over her frame.
Underneath, she wore a white jumpsuit, giving her an overall appearance of cool detachment.
However, Zhang Hao didn’t know much about women’s fashion, so he found it difficult to place a mental price tag on her outfit.
"Now that everyone is here, let’s go to the restaurant and sit down for a good chat," someone suggested.
Zhang Hao walked ahead, overhearing his mother continuously praising the girl behind him for being good-looking and proper.
In reality, she was positioning herself in a very humble role.
Zhang Hao wanted to stop his mother from acting this way, but he eventually let it be.
Upon entering the restaurant and private room, Zhang Hao passed the menu to the woman, who didn’t hesitate to order.
She casually picked two or three dishes and also ordered a bottle of red wine.
This inevitably made Zhang Hao worry whether the money in his card would be enough to pay for the meal.
After inquiring, he learned that the woman worked at a securities company and earned a high salary.
Due to her personality, she had remained single up until now.
Now at the marrying age and without even a boyfriend, she had decided to try going on a blind date.
If someone suitable came along, she was open to making contact.
But Zhang Hao noticed that the woman’s complexion wasn’t very good, likely due to the long nights of overtime work causing an imbalance in her qi and blood.
Throughout their conversation, they both had a fairly good impression of each other, but Zhang Hao had already made up his mind.
Aside from his former sister-in-law, he would not consider any other woman.
So his current conversation was purely out of social courtesy.
Midway through the chat, the woman’s phone rang. After a glance at the screen, she hurriedly got up and left.
It took her a long time to return, but when she did, her expression wasn’t quite right.
Even after finishing the meal and leaving the restaurant, she seemed to be distracted.
Watching Mom and the aunt walk ahead, Zhang Hao kindly offered to drive her home.
Unexpectedly, the woman suddenly asked, "Are you really a doctor, a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine? Could you prescribe me some medicine? I really want to take good care of my body."
"A few days ago, I had a health checkup, and the results showed that I have some problems. My chances of conceiving naturally are not high," she explained.
"If I truly want to marry and start a family, I must get my body back in good condition," she added.
Hearing the woman say this, Zhang Hao, due to his professional duty as a doctor, was willing to take a look at her.
He spontaneously took her pulse right outside the restaurant’s entrance.
Just as the pulse confirmed what Zhang Hao had initially judged, her physical condition was as he had suspected.
"Come to the hospital tomorrow. I will personally prepare a prescription for you to restore your qi and blood," he said.
Upon hearing this, the woman’s face finally relaxed, and she hugged Zhang Hao.
